Offhand, I don't think I said exactly that. I'll check soon to see if I did.

Okay, having looked it up, I see that my words got mixed up when I was writing them, and what I said wasn't actually what I was meaning.

Basically, the first part is still how I feel. That thinking the tracing spell is so bad is idiotic. It's useful and it's not nearly as bad as you are all making it out to be. So clearly you're overreacting. If you all don't see that, well, it's not the first time you couldn't see things so obviously.

It's like if I decided to hock the ring and replace it with a tin one that wasn't found out for a while till after I lost a challenge. You discover it's a fake, I said I sold it, get punished, and then the new ring is found via the spell. That's it.

>I am sure it won't tell exactly where the Baron in question is or what he is
>doing at the time. And if that causes you to not want a ring, then well, You
>probably don't deserve it anyway.

This paragraph was the one where my thoughts didn't come out the right way. I know it's not what I was trying to say.. but even now, I don't remember what it was I -was- trying to say at the time. But I think it looks wrong now.

"The most amazing part of this is that, had I not placed the information upon this board, only the few I've told would know of these tracing spells."

Hmm. "Until I slipped up and told them where the body was, only my accomplices would have known I killed him." Which is to say, if the community did not know of these "spells" now, it wouldn't make it any more proper.

"Until you can explain how, beyond some Divine Fiat, the Rings have been recovered when their holders have gone missing... I see no reason not to trust in a more tangible and realistic method."

The simple fact is... they all HAVE been recovered. In point of fact, when I lost the eighth ring, I was not wearing it. My wife was, and she was unable to attend... and my opponent was wearing it before I left the building. Would you care to explain why you felt that what is apparently a sure-fire recall mechanism for these rings was so inadequate that the Mighty Drakewyn was compelled to exert her magical will upon them? Would you care to
explain what makes your method more "tangible and realistic" than whatever caused the eighth to remove itself from my wife's hand and turn up in the arena? Further, would you care to explain what gives you the RIGHT to entwine your magics with those of the rings?

And they call ME arrogant.

Regards,
Ian Rex.

I don't feel quite right going to the bathroom anymore.. Something about her knowing I'm in there if she wanted to gives me the creeps..

"The fact that you'd been locating Barons is secret this whole time is amazing, not to mention disturbing."

The thing is, Lupton, she hasn't been locating anybody with them.
And it's not that I agree with the tracing spell, for in fact, it's rather stupid of her to allow herself to set such strange "magicks" upon the rings. But hell, welcome to Rhydin.

G'nort,

I'm getting a little tired of you referring to those that hold a differing opinion than yours as idiots. I really thought you were above that. The problem I have with this is a privacy issue.

I don't care a single bit if you think Drake wouldn't let the info out, to be honest, I agree with you. Its that she did this, in secret, and as far as we know, she acted alone, without the consent of anyone. Who granted Drake this type of authority? Once again she has over-stepped her position. Her intentions may or may not have been good, but her actions I take issue with and see as wrong.

I call for the removal of said enchantments and, along with Lupton, for Drake's removal for once and for all.

Can we say she hasn't been for sure, Drey? You don't know. Afterall, she installed the spells without our knowledge.

While I agree with the privacy issue, I see nothing wrong with the majick itself. I think that maybe dismissing Drake for her actions is a bit harsh, but mayhaps sorm form of reprimand for doing such without the proper consent from the Dueling Authorities is in order... if in fact she did such without the proper consent. I think that mayhaps that should be determined first. She did say that only a few knew of the trace spell prior to this.... she
did ~not~ say who those few are.

G'nort,

What thee mayhap nae seem to grasp ist that th' so called tracing spell Madame Silvertree in her ignorance and arrogance hae claimed to hae cast upon ta artifacts wast at bes' unnecessary an' at worst wast jus' another display 'o 'er ineptitude, conceit, pomposity, an' o'erweenin' desire fer power.

The wench herself wast in possession 'o one 'o th' Later Rings, an' seems completely oblivious, for all her claims to having a modicum 'o what she states be draconic magicks, ta th' spells already crafted wi' in ta rings.

One needs only to consider the logic that nae anna ring hae e'er BEEN 'lost' ast Ah hae already stated an' ast th' 'istories, which Madame Silvertree claims ta know, also so state. Madame Silvertree hast ast be 'er usual wont agin displayed 'er complete lack 'o nae only a bare minimum 'o understandin' wi' regard ta magics, but ast well she hae displayed 'er usual lack 'o common sense, propriety, e'en 'er vast lack 'o common courtesy.

Khysta,

Lass, mine own schoolin' in ta various schools 'o magics hae taught me th' there be a myriad 'o so called tracin' spells. Each craftin' be individually tailored fer th' which one wishes ta accomplish. Some spells merely gi' one ta general location 'o ta object or personage, others, more cleverly woven canst track e'en ta slightest breath, others be 'o such delicate an' complicated weavin' th' one may see an' 'ear all wh' surrounds ta object 'o ta
spell. Madame Drakewyn Silvertree apparently hae so little true understanding 'o th' nature 'o th' Baronial Rings despite 'er havin' 'eld possession 'o one, ast to seem ta believe th' ta Rings were nae already more th' adequately bespelled. Tis nae surprisin' considerin' past experiences wi' Madame Silvertree's less th' solid grasp 'o ta adept arts.

Baron of the First, Zafiroo Turidan,

It ist becoming rather apparent, Baron, that thee hold little respect for the First thee bear or for thine peers and do seem to support rash and arrogant acts with regard to the Baronial Rings. Indeed, sirrah, thee appear to be among those gulled into a belief that Madame Silvertree's actions are right, proper and nae the truly reprehensible behavior of a power hungry and arrogant official and an inept adept. I offer thee mine pity for thine lack
of back bone, sirrah.

It ist ast well becoming rather clear that thee dinna understand the very nature of the Ring thee do hold. Dost truly believe that such a well crafted and bespelled artifact couldst be stolen or copied or sold and that the artifact couldst nae by the craftings lain upon it when the Rings were made more than adequately protect itself? Thou must be remiss in thine awareness of the history of the Ring thee bear ast well ast thou must be ast remiss ast
Madame Silvertree in thine knowledge of the magics inherent within the crafted Rings.

::The note written for her by one of the lay priests at the church, Karen tacks it to the board... and below it tacks the note the priest wrote for himself.::

Laird MacKenzie asserts that the Eighth Ring did somehow transfer itself from his wife's hand to, presumably, the hand of Wicked Deth after he had lost to said man in a challenge.
Where was this magic when Athlstan took the title of Baron of the Seventh? Why was Kairee able to keep possesion of the Ring, when Laird MacKenzie's wife was not?

Scribed by Brother Willem for the lady Karen Wilder.

::The second note reads.::

Lady Starfare.

The Church would like to prevail upon your good will to make copies of the archives at Arda Castle. The monks of the Chapel Of The Lord's Grace have completed their work of translating The Holy Bible to elvish and would be most eager to take up this task.

Brother Willem, scribing at the request of Cardinal MontClair.

"Why was Kairee able to keep possesion of the Ring, when Laird MacKenzie's wife was not?"

Well, gee, maybe because if, at the time, anyone could be said to "own" the rings - ALL of them - it was Kairee?

Having been a former holder of the second barons ring, however briefly, I would offer my services up to the current holder, Cletus Ganderfel I believe, to help alleviate his worries.

My skills in the arcane arts are based around those of the necromantic arts, but I am also capable in a few other areas. I doubt I could erase or dispel her "Magick" as she calls it, but I could most assuredly come up with a simple misdirection spell that would confuse and befuddle attempt to locate you.

I must say however, that I seriously doubt the Lady Drakewyn possess the ability to place a spell upon such a powerful item such as the rings without having them in her possession for an amount of time commensurate with her skill. It is nearly impossible for any mage, and I will confidently include Lord Xenograg, to cast such a spell on something possessed and worn by another.

I don't recall many matches where the Lady Drakewyn indeed had these rings to herself, certainly not in private, although a few of them may have fallen into her clutches.

The bigger problem I see is not the ability to locate a person who wears the ring that these spells are placed upon, it is what can be done with those spells. I know of many a lesser mage who is able to not only locate an item he has places such a spell on, but also cast or channel a spell along the same lines of power drawn to the locating spell. Ergo, if I were to cast a spell of clairaudance on your sword it would be a simple matter for me to
cast a spell of possession and let that spell follow the lines of power to the original spell, and take control of whoever has said sword.

It all sounds very complicated, but it is an easy feat for one who knows the ways of the arcane. You will have to trust my word on this.

I must reiterate my point. I doubt that Drakewyn had the opportunity to have every ring in her possession to cast the spell since I have yet to see anyone this side of an immortal able to do such a thing without touch and or consent of the wearer. The wearers of the rings she HAS had control of should fear for not only their privacy, but their lives also. Should Drakewyn somehow lose control of her own faculties due to outside possession or
simple insanity, or should she simply decide your life would be better off served in the afterlife, you are as good as dead.

Rest easy my children,

Gentles and Brother Willem,

In the matter of the bodacious Kairee and the cleric, Athlstan, it should be noted that the Baron and the comely lass struck a bargain of sorts and that the Ring wast ne'er in danger, though at the time it couldst be said that the saintly cleric's vows were sorely tested. The cleric was seen to blush and stammer on more than one occasion. The bodacious, splendiferous one wast well known to hae that effect on manna of the male gender nae the least
of which wast the legendary first Overlord, Gondar.

Indeed, the splendiferous one didst nae retain possession of the ring and the saintly cleric Baron from all reports wast able to maintain his vows. Tis rumored the chill of the waters of the Mere were of aid unto the cleric during his time of testing.

Ast to thine request, Brother Willem, in that I am completely unfamiliar with the Church thou servest or with the work of thine monks ast well ast the delicate nature of the tomes, scrolls and parchments extant within the vast archives at Arda, I must, for the nonce, decline thine request.

I do however admit some little curiosity with regard to the Church and order of monks thou hast named ast well ast some curiosity ast to the task thee hae stated wast undertaken. To what Lord dost make reference? To what holy book dost make reference? To what dialect of the myriad Elven tongues wast this work translated? Indeed, I am most curious ast to the reason thine monks wouldst undertake such a task. Be they of the Elven species? Perhaps
thee wouldst be willing to permit a perusal of a few pages of said translation whereby the scribes at Arda may view the expertise and artistry of thine order.

A few of my thoughts on the matter.

First, I know that I had no knowledge of any tracing spells that were placed on the Baron rings. If my father was aware of these spells is something I don't know yet, since I haven't had a chance to talk to him. From the stories I've heard, however, the Baron rings have always found a way to return to the arena when past Barons have disappeared from the realm, even before Drakewyn placed her spells on them. If this is in error, someone please
correct me, as I merely have to go on the stories that my father has told me. Considering that, I see no need for any locating spells to be placed on the Baron rings, so I ask Drakewyn to please remove them. If the information I've been told is incorrect, someone please inform me so I can consider the situation further.

Concerning the current Baron of the Fourth, I've recently sent out many messengers to seek for Baron Zen. Hopefully one of them will be able to provide me with further information. I am hoping Zen will get in contact with me, either publically or privately, if he is still in the realm so these rumors can be put to rest. If I have not heard from the Baron by a week prior to the Warlord's Tournament, I will declare the Fourth Baron's Ring vacant
and offer it as a prize in the Tournament. This is, of course, assuming there is no challenge for the ring during that time. If there is, then the situation would fall into the Council's hands, as many of you have already pointed out. Any comments or questions are welcome.

To the best of my knowledge, this statement by Rix is correct.
