To everyone...

What I want to know is why everyone is still carrying on about this...is any amount of name calling and trying to prove yours is the right way actually going to do anything?

<<...Var. It is immensely enjoyable witnessing how stupid you are. >>

<<I am here to make a point.>>

Morgan,
The first quoted statement is what you consider making a point in an arguement about the Overlord's use of The Test of Worthiness?

<< I am not here to make sure you are not offended by strong opinions. >>

I don't recall making any comment to indicate that I was in anyway offended. I was actually pointing out how you seem to have ended a well written arguement with a petty insult, hence stooping to a level that appears to be beneath you when others do so. Perhaps, like the great Overlord, you too are a bit holier than thou... you have in the past stated that petty insults do not make for good arguing skills, yet when it seems to suit your
purpose, you are more than willing to stoop to them. Sort of indicates that in at least this particular debate, perhaps you are not so sure that The Great Overlord did the right thing.

Cletus...
As overlord you can use intercession. To keep that rank, you can do everything in your power to keep a tight grip on that. I am totally against the man for breaking that little bargin thing. But, if he never made that bargin and kept on testing barons and such. I would have absolutely nothing against him. If you would go against me for using my rights as overlord, that would make no sense. You're going against the obvious protection as
overlord to keep your oh so high rank. I totally agree with everyone, yes, everyone. That I would make one of the or the worst overlords ever. I doubt anyone would actually be loyal to me. All neutrals and renegades most likely. All i'm saying is... If I were overlord, I would surely excersice my right for barons and such to intercede for me. Anything to keep that rank.
Simply put,

Sid,

I was not comparing Dal and Magnus. I was asked a question and I answered it. I have not thrown an insult yet on this post, and I don't wish to start.

Jake,

Alright, let me see if I can clarify to you my last few months of posts...I don't give a damn if it is the Overlord's right to use the test. I have, and will never believe in the test. I feel that a challenger should meet the one he challenged.

Jake, we're friends, I don't want to fight with you...this is the way I feel, as friends, I feel I should be able to tell it to you, so, if you wish to keep this conversation going, I would prefer we do it in person...

"Sort of indicates that in at least this particular debate, perhaps you are not so sure that The Great Overlord did the right thing. "

Do not suppose motivations for me. You are not me, you are not my friend, and you do not know me. If you did, you would not say such foolish things.

"st quoted statement is what you consider making a point in an arguement about the Overlord's use of The Test of Worthiness? "

If you had paid attention, you would know that my point was that people who do not know the way treaties, pacts, contracts, and agreements work, and think that it is still binding when one entity is no longer able to fulfill their part of the bargain, they are the ones that are ignorant. Var bravely admitted he was one that believed that way. It is so simple, and yet you want me to go over it again.

Let me outline my point, or my argument, for you.

1. People who think an agreement is still binding even when one of the entities is unable to fulfill their part of the bargain, or has released the other entity, are ignorant.

2. Var is one of these people that thinks the above.

Therefore, Var is ignorant.

By the way, if you feel the same way as Var does, can you take the next step and figure out what where I think you stand in regards to my argument?

"I was actually pointing out how you seem to have ended a well written arguement with a petty insult, hence stooping to a level that appears to be beneath you when others do so. Perhaps, like the great Overlord, you too are a bit holier than thou... you have in the past stated that petty insults do not make for good arguing skills, yet when it seems to suit your purpose, you are more than willing to
stoop to them."

I have already addressed this, but now that I understand you need extra help, I shall address it again.

Apparently, no one hears anything unless it is said in an insulting manner. Even when I took a care with my words, though I was still very blunt, some halfwit would accuse me of hiding behind my words because they were, gasp, well written. I have decided to make the task of ascertaining my opinion that much easier and have chosen words that are understood. Small-minded people understand words like "ignorant" and "stupid." Before, when I was
employing good debate skills, it was like trying to explain the concept of sharing to two-year olds. That was about as rewarding an experience as walking through fire.

If you cannot defeat them, join them. You can thank your charming fiance for his part in bring about the "new" Morgan.

Who here is still having difficulty figuring out what I really mean when I say something?

And if you were wondering if I was talking down to you, you are right. People who try to speak for me rarely receive my sympathy or respect. I am not impressed. If you choose to continue speaking for me, or telling others what I "really" mean, then do not complain when I lump you in with the other two-year olds and treat you with the same delightful contempt.

I say what I mean. You do not need to exert yourself trying to figure out what I am really saying for I have already said it.

Is that clear enough for you?

The rest of this note is for your charming fiance.

"Also, I don't think I cared for the backhanded insult to Sara."

When will you open your eyes and see that I do not do anything "backhanded" or even slightly ambiguous? If you think I am being backhanded, then you are reading insult where none was intended. You should know by now that I am QUITE blunt when I speak my mind. I intend every word I say, and when I find I was not clear, or did not intend what my words conveyed, I will say so at the earliest chance I get.

So, in sum:

-- The Pro-Dals think the agreement was between Dal and Kal.

-- The Anti-Dals think the agreement was between Dal and the community.

No amount of debating will change this for anyone unless you convince someone to go from Pro-Dal to Anti-Dal.

So, the debate rages on, things being repeated for the third time, and being responded with repeated responses. And insults. Or perceived insults. Or misconstrued contexts. Or the same thing that's been going on since I can remember.

Maybe everyone likes debate that has no end.

As a side note, does anyone else think that "hypocrisy"-- real or perceived-- is being used as a major issue in the community as of late?

I should come by here more often so I can keep up with these posts, but, in response to the origional question: I don't care, I just want to duel.

If an interjection by one who has only occasionally passed through these halls might be forgiven:

It seems that many are missing the actual target here.

When speaking of oaths, the Overlord has done no wrong in this case whatsoever. However, one could rightly fault him for publicly announcing his agreement with Kalamere, but failing to publicly set aside the agreement once Kalamere released him.

Had the Overlord done such a thing, all actions would have been above-board. In not doing so, it could perhaps be said that while he had been released from his bargain, he was choosing to remain true to it.

In this, his actions are not, in any way, "oath-breaking," but instead are more along the lines of a politician failing to live up to a policy statement once elected. It is, then, up to the populace to determine whether they feel betrayed - but determining that they have been lied to is a reaction which is quite excessive.
