Ian dragged the last of his kitchen appliances into the deli's kitchen, a 300 lb freezer. As he hefted it into place, Ian shifted back to his homid form and checked the placement. He nodded to himself as it looked fine, his bulky chrinos hadn't goofed it up too much. He opened the freezer and checked it to see if it was working properly just as he had for the rest of the equipment in the 25' by 25' kitchen. Of everything, the wiring had been the most difficult to get done, and his location beside Jake's brewery meant that he was better off getting his own generator from back on earth.

Tis took the time to go sit in the dining area and have a cigarette as his moving in was complete. It had taken months to get the deli built properly without too much time to take everything in. As he looked around, Ian looked over the counter and it's sheen from freshly varnished oak, and the tables that matched the counter. He'd decided that several bench style tables as well as the circular ones that he liked would be a nice accent for the large groups of duelers that he anticipated stopping by. Ian kicked back against the wall as he sat on a bench and lit his cigarette.

It was oddly quiet now that things had settled a little. Tis pulled a throwing dagger from his boot and sunk it into the dartboard across the room, striking it into the double 20 slot. He smiled as the juke box from his old house lit up and started playing it's 40th CD. The 40th was his favorite one, an old CD by a band called Fishbone. As he hummed the tune of Swim, the first track, he looked out the windows across the street. He could see Jake's place clearly, and grinned at the awning that connected with his. Tis and Jake had decided on retractable awnings so that patrons could see the stars if they were outside, but the porch on the deli differed from the brewery in that it had become a stage that went at a 45 degree angle to his place. Ian smiled at the thought of having live performances, just like back home.

The other things in the deli, the pool table, the air hockey table, the pinball machines and the many neon signs contrasted greatly with the candles on each table, but it was rather homey. Ian chuckled and knocked back a mug of Black 'n Blue, compliments of The Red Orc Brewery. It all had come together rather nicely, he thought. His apartment in the upstairs was the finishing touch as it combined with his office for taking care of Tag Team DoF matters. Tis nodded and spoke softly.

"Aye lad. You finally are home."

With that, Tis wandered upstairs and got a few winks as he waited for the suppliers of his food to get the deliveries in.

Ian ushered the last of the deliverymen out the doors and back to their ship. He signed the papers they asked him to sign and wandered around his once clean kitchen, staring at all the boxes. Ian sighed to himself and packed all the frozen foods first so they wouldn't make a huge mess from thawing. He packed the meats, the fries, and other goods deep in the freezer, trying tofigure out if he would have enough room. With a nod, he moved on to the fridge, setting what meat needed to be cut forward, along with the veggies that needed to be taken care of to fill up the sandwich counter.

Ian looked down and saw that there was thawed blood and water on the floor, and with a grimace and several uncouth phrases began to mop. That was the only part he hated to do, and he decided that he would set Shadow Chaser to the task. Torq, with his beaming personality had volunteered to handle the position of bouncer with a gim looking smile. Ian hated to think what would happen to the uncouth customers that came in and caused trouble with his only remaining packmate at the counter, waiting and watching. Ian decided that he'd definately speak to Torque about mussing his patrons, not to mention scaring them off with that ugly mug of his.

The mopping completed, Ian efficiently started to work shredding and slicing the food for the sandwich counter. After a few hours, he was finished, and went to the cleaning area that was partitioned from the main part of the kitchen. He cleaned all the utensils and stowed them in their proper places so that he would be ready for the next day. As Ian finished the final cleaning and inspection, he smiled big and went back to the dining area.

Fishbone finished its play, and he grinned as Queen took its place.

"Perfect", Ian said softly with a big smile as he went to one of the tables. On the table sat a large wooden sign that had to be hung out front. Beside the sign lay a rolled up banner. Tis picked up both of these and headed outside.

Outside the deli, Tis had set a ladder against the front of the building, on the wooden porch that the awning would crank out from. He checked the balance and headed up to the jutting cover above the porch, and walked up to the outter front wall. Carefully positioning the 8' by 4' sign against the building, a few nails sunk through the sign held it up just right. Walking back to the edge of the covering, Tis hung the 12' by 3'banner from a few nails that he had placed just for this occasion.

Tis climbed down the ladder and stowed it underneath the porch on a rach he had made for it. Then he stepped back and took in his marvelous building and it's sign and banner...Munro's Deli &Ice Cream ShoppeGrand Opening Saturday! DoF Duelers eat For Half Price!

Ian smiled at the sight that he had waited decades to accomplish. He felt a sense of self gratification as he looked at the door as he opened it, taking in the stained glass that he had brought back from the umbra, but noticing most of all the inscription on a small silver plaque set in the middle of the stained oak...

Kyttn's bearing gifts

Post by DoF Archive » Mon Mar 15, 2004 3:11 am

From: Kyttn

Kyttn moved past the Red Orc Brewery in the darkness. A flicker of an affectionate grin danced across her face at the thought of her oldest and best friend, Jake. He'd made her feel at home here and that was more than anyone could ever ask of a friend. She silently wished his business well as she passed the Brewery, in spite of Jake's erstwhile help, Mojo. She carried in her arms wrapped package. It contained an antique clock. Red, round and bearing the legend Always Coca Cola in a border of white letters on it's face. The central picture was a relief rendition of a glass bottle of Coke, from the center of which protruded actual, functional clock hands. From the back was a long black cord to *plug* the thing in. Kyttn thought it was a great piece of Terran nostalgia. Her old friend JacobRichter had once introduced her to Coke and explained it's origins. It was a cloying, overly sweet drink and being the cat she was, Kyttn loved sweet things. She'd been thinking of Jacob recently after meeting Victor Lazarus who knew Jacob; Harli, as she'd always called him. Harli had known of many shops and dealers from which Terran antiques could be had. Some of them were where he got the paraphenalia for his own bar and pool hall, the Fighting57th. It was late, but Kyt figured the garou inside the Deli apartment would still be awake. She rapped at the Deli door, hoping to give it to him in person. She knew her friend had been kinda quiet lately. She didn't know if he were down or feeling swamped, but she hoped that the "Deli warming" gift might please him. Her long tail swished side to side while she waited, the cool air of the early winter night drifting in gentle gusts around her.

Ian beamed as he saw Kyt through the stained glass set in the door. He hadn't kept her waiting for very long at all, in fact he was sitting only a few feet from the door when she knocked. He smiled and opened the door, ushering her from the nip in the air with open arms. The sign with an all too familiar slogan was a welcome sight as he hung it beside the door, in clear sight from the window to the kitchen.

"Thanks Kyt", he spoke in soft tones. Ian smiled and went to the kitchen to make a warm snack for the both of them, a tuna ona rye for Kyt and some sausage with peppers and onions for himself. Ian lit some candles on one of the round tables and set the food out, then got two glasses of Coke for them. Ian sat and ate, speaking with a light heart with Kyt well into the night.

Ian smiled to himself, thinking, "Good friends, good food, good music... Can't get too much better than this."

The lights were on and the sillouettes of two folks wavered in dark shadows upon the wall, but Dorae did not knock or ring the bell. Instead she slips an envelope into the deli's mailbox. The receipe for Snake Bite Potatoes.... a cajun delicacy from her home town of Crosh Minor which is buried in the hottest pits of the deep south. She is not even sure why she asked to add this dish toIan's menu, but she feels a bit differently lately.... oh, the coldness is still there and she is still cautious, but it seems as if something leads her to become slightly interested in those around her. A slight smile and a soft laugh, then she turns away from the deli, her soft boots make no sound on the snow and point her in the direction of home.

Ian turned at the door as the slip of paper came underneath, his tuned ears picking up the slight sweeping sound that it gave. Ian picked up the paper and looked out the door to see a cloaked figure walking away with certainty, and shrugged as he opened the paper. Ian read over the recipe and grinned, knowing that the Snake Bite Potatos would be a great side order. Tis smiles softly as he remembered the tattooed fists of Dorae and shouted a
bode of thanks at the cloaked figure, hoping that it was really her and that he wasn't embarrassing himself.

With a smile, Ian wiped a smudge from his plaque on the door and closed it, going back to his guest.
