Duke Uziel strolls into the sun room of Oakenshield manor looking over the match dates for the TDL. He smiled slightly, spotting his daughter Aislain leaning over the breakfast table playing with the set of pirates he had commissioned Onyx to carve. The beautiful pieces of art were now scattered around the dirty plates, marmalade clinging to the sides of the wooden gallon and butter swirling around the claws of a fierce dragon.
They had been expensive, but worth every silver piece to ensure his little one of plenty of female pirates. He smirked to himself thinking how all of them suspiciously resembled Elle. With a sinewy grace belying his massive stature he came up behind her, his large hand reaching down to ruffle her dark red curls as the shescolded Luth for putting Baron Oakenshield in the egg cup. He withheld a chuckle as he greeted her, "Hello lass."
Aislain giggles looking up from her play with a twinkle in her liquid black eyes, so much like her mother's green ones. "Papa! Madam Kaprie just slashed Monsieur Karny's pants!!!"
Indulgently the Lord of the Valheru's usual smirk slid into a smile, "I am sure William is unruffled."
Aislain's eyes widen in shock as she murmurs almost to herself, "Monsieur Karny wears ruffles?"
His dark blue eyes growing almost merry, he laughs. "Mayhaps you might want to ask him about that next time you see him eh?"
Aislain gravely nods as she picks up the slashed pirate, examining his pants closely, "Oui, are they pink ruffles? Does he wear them under his pants?
Adonai can not help but tease the small child, "Aye lass, pink ones, with frilly lacey things one em. Kapi says she like him in those."
Aislain flits up to her feet and begins to pull at her skirt giggling as she looks up, "I have pink ones with lace and mine have sparkles!" Adonai chucks her cheek shaking his head, "That's quite all right lass....I dunna need to see." Giggling Aislain climbs back into her chair and moves Jonalyn in to cut off Dal's ear. After a brief moment she whispers, "Papa, I sent back the dress."
Knowing how difficult it had been for her to obey Adonai slid his arm around her thin shoulders. How do you tell a seven year old that she must do something most adults found difficult? The gift had been something she desired: purple sparkles a particular favorite in her childish list of likes and dislikes. It had been from someone she admired, someone she loved; someone who had deeply wounded one of her best friends. He had been forced to make
her understand that she could not accept a gift from someone who harmed her friends. It had taken all her maturity to understand and more than once he had been tempted to let the little girl slide. But lifes was a treacherous road and he wished to help her learn to take take the more difficult path, simply because it was the right one.
"Aye lass, 'twas the right thing to do." His voice grows tired as he reaches down to finger one of the five wooden dragons surrounding the beleaguered marmalade ship. "Needless to say, your mother is not pleased with me. But then, I'll always be the bad guy with her no matter what." He set the dragon down, "So there is little I can do about that."
Jona finishes cutting off Dal's ear as Ellisa pounces Laird Tynsdale. Aislain innocently murmurs, "Marme only says nice things about you. She loves you." She quickly bent her head, her eyes avoiding his as Ellisa shoves Laird Tynsdale over the plank. Delightedly Aislain makes small yelping noises as the sharks nibble on Iain's toes.
Adonai crouches closer to her, her small yips delighting him. "Your mother only says nice things about me when you children are around lass. Dunna let her fool you...I am not her favorite person."
Iain swims to freedom as Aislain picks up Madam Potion winding a small napkin around her belly. Casually she whispers, "She talks about you in her sleep." Aislain rises to her knees so she could swing the pregnant Potion from the top mast of her gallon.
Adonai smiles softly, taken in by the subtle deception of a desperate child, "Aye lass...mayhaps. But dream people and wake people are different."
Artfully favoring him with an innocent look, Aislain then turns back to her tableau moving her favorite dragon, Kalamere, over to rescue the hanging Potion. "She told Madam Oakenshield that she still loves you, but doesn't want anyone to know. It's a secret, so Madam can't tell you, but I did not promise so..." Aislain's voice drifts off as Kalamere sets Potion in a pile of buttered toast then visciously attacks and eats Jona.
Adonai chuckles as he watches the intricate play unfold before him. "Well your mother...well she's a loving woman...thats true enough...but her love is often twisted by her unhappiness. So oft times she is angry with me."
Pretending not to hear, Aislain shakes a finger at Kalamere. "Bad bad bad, now you will have a tummy ache and I won't help you at all. You have been very naughty!" Sliding off the chair she flits to the corner and places Kalamere's snout to the wall. Returning to Adonai she flashes a dimple, "Oui papa, the madder Marme is at you, the more she loves you."
Adonai towers over her teasing, "Well.....one holds hope for her continued good health...at her present stress rate she should explode in a year or so."
Aislain dissolves into giggles then squeals, "Bad papa!"Leaping up to the chair in a flurry of pink skirts she tries to tickle under his arms announcing, "I am the evil Pirate Queen Uziel, fear me or walk my plank!" Adonai swoops her up high in the air as she squeals in delight looking down at him, "I am bigger than you papa!"
The usually grave Lord of Valheru grins up to her, "I am the Mighty Dragon Lord of RhyDin, laugh at me not or eat mudpies."
Small tears roll down her face as she laughs so hard she can not catch her breath as her slender arms slide around his neck. The Baron of the Seventh ring pulls her close kissing her cheek.

Morte found Aislain in her room. Her daughter was dressed in the Pirate's costume she had made for her; the black pants already riding around her bare ankles, the small sash barely fitting around her slender waist. The child was growing. Aislain scowled as the hat slid off her curls and she shoved the box of toys Adonai had given her under her bed. Morte winced then smiled as she announced, "You may keep the lovely dress that Prin
sent you, luv."
Looking up with a start, Aislain mumbles in surprise, "I sent it back three days ago marme." Biting her small lip she gives the box an extra shove.
Morte swiftly enters, stooping to hug her daughter close, "'Tis time ye began te make a few decisions for yerself." Releasing her she walks to the wardrobe next to Aggy's bed. Aislain watches her confessing, "Oui, it was so hard: but Drak does not cry easily Marme. I have never seen him cry and.." Her lilting chatter fades as Morte takes out the box that holds the dress. With a happy wink Morte announces, "I have been keepin' it." Morte
studies her stunned daughter and continues, "I know, luv. Prin has apologized te Drak. She meant nae harm but te tease. I have talked te her. Aggy found this box and the note and gave it te me. He thinks that ye take too much o' yer father's advice te heart."
Aislain hesitates. Her resolve to be honorable dissolving as she tugs off the white pirate shirt and rises to recapture her purple sparkle dress. Looking up to her mother she asks, "Would she have apologized if I had not sent the dress?"
Morte smiles, watching her daughter sort through her confusion. It had been hard raising her alone. She was proud of her, but Aislain was only a child. Quietly she offers her daughter a blanket in the confusing world of adults, "I think she would have if ye had gone te her and talked about what happened."
Aislain pulls on the dress her small fingers lifting her hair so Morte can button up her back, "Then how did she know that Drak was going to quit dueling if she did not receive my note?" Morte buttoned up the dress and then reached around to touch her daughter's soft cheek, the love for she in her green eyes, "I did take the note and I talked te her 'bout it. She felt verra badly." Gravely she explains, "Nae one be perfect, 'Slain. Nae me, nor
ye, nor Prin - nor yer father.
Ye must champion the weak, luv. 'Tis what yer Grandmother would expect o' ye. But 'tis with talk first, then with harsher measures as needed. Ye can come te me, and I'll help ye te talk with these grownups." Sighing Morte looked over Aislain's head and out the leaded window, "Yer father be a hard, cold man. His ways be nae our ways. We deal with Honor first, then the sword."
Aislain moves to her mother's side the sparkles catching the afternoon sun. Admiring her reflection in the looking glass on the other side of the room she blissfully lies, "Papa says he still loves you."
Morte hugs her close kissing her cheek as she sighs, "Dulce that be in the past, luv. We cannae change the past."

::Morte walked slowly inte the hidden glade o' her mother, Ceinwen. Her heart and mind were a jumble at the odd summons sent te her byway o' Aggy. She sat in the center o' the low tor, her head lookin down onte the soft grass. "Morte" She looked up and inte the eyes o' her mother. "Aye, Muther... I be here at yer command."<FONT
COLOR="#000000" SIZE=3> The Goddess sat down next te her only child o' magic and a human man. " I know that there are times that you don't understand why I do the things I do." Ceinwen smiles. " My motives are mine, and when you married Adonai you changed many threads on the Tapestry. I knew you had a great desire to have children, but I also
knew that Adonai was not the one to give them to you." The Goddess shrugged her shoulders. " I used a new bright thread to weave them into existance with The Lord of The Great Dance. He rules even me, my child.... and I could not have done this without his leave. I caused you to come to this place, to sleep deeply. I caused the human man to come to you, for in his heart and soul
were Honor, Love and Understanding. These are the qualities that were needful for the twins. In this alone, I have succeeded for they both have Honor," Ceinwen tilts her head, her eyes searchin Morte's. " sometimes abit too much Honor and Love. Aislain will always be Adonai's child, regardless of her parentage for they share a love bond. You must not strip this from her, or from
him." Morte hung her head, a tear slippin down her face. The Goddess' finger gently tilted Morte's face up. " Aislain knows the other truth of this... that you still love Adonai somewhere inside. Do not let this feeling make you bitter because it will poison your heart. Release them both to their love, and you will find the peace you seek inside. When you have found this peace,
return here and I will tell you about the man who fathered the twins."
With those words, the glade was filled with a glorious golden glow as Ceinwen passed out of this world, the wind murmurred soflty. "Love and Honor .... remember."
