"What! 950 gold pieces?" Ali Ibn Bakr's said in a thick voice. "What about your work here?"
"Father, you tell me you want me to find hobby such as this I have found, " retorted Jezabel. "I like this. Come with me and see for yourself."
"You think this swordplay a hobby now, my daughter?" he said, ignoring the invitation. "I don't think your mother will be pleased."
"Father, no...I think it a sport. I have already spoken to mama and she is supporting this."
"Jezabel, what of our family business?"
"Father, you told me. You told me to find something that will exercise my mind. I found an instructor too. What are you always saying about honor to me? He is going to be picking me up tonight." She said, in a lower tone. "I need at least 1000 Gold pieces to go to the marketplace. I want to buy a good weapon."
"We shall see. Picking you up? Here? Tonight?" he asked, suddenly catching the words.
"Yes, Papa. You wish him to pick me up somewhere else?" She asked, raising a clever brow.
"NO." He answered, his accent so much thicker than hers. "He comes here."
"Thank you." she murmurred.
He was always stubborn, but that had been the way of him. She smiled. She turned into her work, retreating to digging the ground for more Silkworms.

Jezabel worked feverishly through the day, breaking only to have snacks.
Later, a little past the hour of which her escort was to arrive, she strolled casually into the family area where her father sat with his bookkeeping work.
"Hi Papa."
She sank into a seat.
"Seems your date is a no show, my daughter," he said, "Where are you going now?"
"Papa, I am still going to the Arena. I am sure Anon has a good reason."
"Anon. I shall remember that name, Jez. I shall take you to this place you speak of."
She sank lower into her seat, glowering for sure under the brim of her new evening hat.
"I am ready to go now, then Papa."
He set his bookwork down on a nearby table and grabbed up his hat, and placed his on his dark head.
"No daughter of mine shall go unescorted." With that said, he stood, and she arose to follow him to the stables. She knew her father was not pleased.

As they left the clearing of their land and passed into the shade of the woods, father and daughter fell into silence. Usually, the two were engaged in chatter regarding their family business. They negotiated their way slowly beside the stream, ducking their heads underneath the branches.
"There is it, Papa!" Jezabel's blue eyes grew large with excitement and she prompted her horse to halt. She glanced over her shoulder and found her father in what seemed a judgemental vigil. He remained silent as she slid off her horse. She handed the reigns to him.
"Two hours, Jezabel. I shall have proper escort here to pick you up." he announced firmly, not taking his eyes from the arena's existence.
She blew a kiss to her father and ran ahead. At the door, she turned around. Her father had not moved.
"Thank you Papa!" She waved and disappeared behind the doors.

Jezabel walked in to find the arena filled with duelers she had not met earlier in the day. She found a chair to sit down and as she did the thought of Anon not showing disappointed her. She muttered a few words of displeasure allowing for emotional release as she placed her feet on the stool before her.
Anon entered the arena. He spotted her quickly and made his way toward her. An apology was given.
Still, she had not cooled from her disappointment. She knew that he was not going to be on her father's good side. Course, what male ever was?
"Hi Anon."
"I brought you a present. " He said. The box was wrapped neatly with a pretty arrangement of yellow ribbons.
"for me?"
"yes. Open it!"
"Okay."
She sat stunned when she placed her eyes on the golden sword inside.
"It is why I was late." Anon added, with a smile.
