She had expected to simply be the Lady of Honour at Whitey's challenge match. She had anticipated cheering him on and then spendin the rest of the evening with him, win or lose. Instead she got quite a surprise.
Whitey had chosen to announce her as his Lady of Honour, something Sara had never seen occur in the two years that she had been around the Duels. Instead of a simple introduction, Whitey got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
To say that Sara was surprised would be an understatement. Shocked and speachless, her brain swirled about. She had never expected that he would propose to her, let alone in front of so many people. So many voices all talkin at once, she was able to hear bits and pieces of encouragements to accept the proposal.
Once she was able to find her voice, she did accept. The challenge then proceeded.
The next few days, her head continued to swim. She was very happy with Whitey and thrilled that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Over the next few days, Sara began to realize just how different she and Whitey were and fear began to creep into her.

As the nights passed, Sara's fears and nervousness increased. First she learned that Whitey wanted to be wed by a Catholic priest...this in and of itself was not a problem, since she has had no access to the Goddess of her homeland here in RhyDin. The problem lay in what she knew of Catholic priests and their dislike for Elves. Whitey had made comment to
needing to hit a priest over the head in order to
get him to perform a wedding ceremony for them. Whitey had indicated that Catholic priests found elves to be no better than demons. This would be a real problem. Gauriel would be furious to learn that his daughter would be discriminated against in such a manner. It should be the happiest time of her life.
But then, Gauriel still needed to be told of the impending nuptuals. Sara was not thrilled at the prospect of explaining things to her father. There were quite a few things that Sara had neglected to tell Gauriel. Sara knew that Whitey and Gauriel needed to meet and the sooner the better, but she also knew her father would not be happy about her choice being that of an older mate.
Gauriel would argue that if she has to marry a human, she should at least choose a young one. Sara knew the things that her father would say, You will outlive him... You will still be young as age cripples him... You will be left to raise your children alone. These things terrified her. She had no desire to be widowed and left like that with children.
Children... The thought of bearing young scared Sara out of her mind. She knew of the stories from when her mother was with child... two full years till Sara was finally born. Sara feared having that trait from her mother. She had no desire to spend two years being miserable, heavy with child. This was an issue Sara and Whitey had yet to discuss, and so there was still hope that maybe he would not expect her to bear any
children.
