Yellow Opal Tourney!

::as Goon's massive frame lay slumped over the table in the library, Sue saw his write-up on the tournament for the Yellow Opal, Moonberyl, next to his arm. Chuckling as she read it, she spoke quietly to herself, "Let's see if we can't clean this up a bit."::

Saturday, April 18th, at 10pm, the tournament to decide the new holder of the Yellow Opal was held. Only four of the eight Emeralds who signed up were able to make it, but that allowed it to be run in a fashion that had not been seen for some time in the Outback- Round Robin!

In the first round, Tarl Cabot met Huma Evilbane, while Dexter Montoya battled Steven Glowacki. Hammering away at each other with great speed, Dex and Steve fought tooth and nail, never letting the other gain much of a lead, before Dex managed to drop his opponent in the ninth round with a 5-4 win! Meanwhile, Huma gave Tarl a bit more trouble in their duel, but couldn't avoid falling 5-3 in the 12th round of action.

The next round pitted winner against winner and loser against loser. Huma gave Steve a good run for his money, but in the end fell out of contention for the title with another 5-3 loss. Tarl and Dex, however, plum near wore each other out! When Dex scored, Tarl came back with a hit of his own. At 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3, the Gorean always managed to tie the duel. In the end, however, the pattern prevailed over all, and Dexter, a title holder both
in the duels of Swords and Magic, gained the upper hand in trying to take his first Fists trophy home, winning 5-4 in 14 amazing rounds!

Finally, Tarl and Steven went to work, trying to stay in the running for the title in case Huma was able to break out of his slump and defeat Dex. Alas, it was not to be, as Dex emerged victorious, 5-2 in 8 rounds, leaving the other two fighters in the ring with no more opportunity for the prized gem. Battling for pride only, Tarl staved off another defeat with a 5-4 win, placing second in the tournament overall.

Congratulations to the new holder of the Yellow Opal, Dexter Montoya!

The final standings-

Dex, 3-0, 15-10.

Tarl, 2-1, 14-12.

Steve, 1-2, 13-13.

Huma, 0-3, 8-15.

:: Dex had been rarely around for a long time. Dex realized where his priorities must lie and began to spend more time away from Rhydin and at home in Atrebla. Runs through the forest seemed to alleviate his stresses and he was starting to regain a sense of self. Perhaps that was why the last few tournaments had gone so well for him. No longer overdueling he came rested. A strong showing in the previous Archmage tournament where he wentto the final match, and at DQ the semi finals seemed to bring Dex satisfaction he was doing the right thing. Then just last night he found himself winning the Opal tournament in the Outback. It was only 4 of them and he wanted there to be no question as to his right to hold the Opal so he asked Tarl to challenge him. This time Tarl as the second place holder in the tournament was hot and took both matches handidly. Smiling to himself Dex realized henow was likely the first person to actually hold title in all three venues, with a small snicker he set a second record last night as the shortest title holder in all of the rings. He held the Opal less than one hour, something likely to never be beaten. He smiled thinking all was right in his end of the universe. <w> Well won Tarl. ::
