Aja dismounted Chiron, her eyes never leaving the heavy oak door to the Red Dragon Inn. The door would take her into the massive structure and back into the life she had left behind. A stable hand took Chiron's reigns for her, allowing Aja a small break from her thoughts as she tipped the boy.
With a deep breath, she pushed the door open and wandered down the steps into the arena. Each step bringing her a little more apprehension. When she reached the bottom, she stopped thankful the arena was empty this day. Her amber eyes scanned it slowly. Taking in the banners, the tables, the bar and the rings. Ah yes. The rings. The place people came to prove themselves, sometimes they came to find themselves. But they all came, whatever their
reasons. Aja had plenty of her own for being here.
Once again being back in RhyDin. Once again back into the life she left behind so long ago when she went searching for her family, her past. Finding out who she was, where she had come from, learing of her heritage, it all meant a great deal. Her heart was full of the love and sense of belonging she had missed all her life.
Now, here she was facing her future, certain of the past, dealing with the present. Praying she could have all she dared to dream. Could she really have the happiness that seemed to alude her most of her life? Could she make her marriage work?
She didn't know if it was possible. But she was gonna try it. While her past was important, she wasn't content to live in it. She had made her mistakes and had learned from them. Tanner's words came to her then.
"A truly wise man knows that he knows nothing."
Aja took another look around the place. A small smile crossed her face. Even in turmoil, the place looked damn good. Strangely. It was comfortable.
Turning she climbed the stairs. She had much to do and wanted to waste no time doing it.
