And so it was as he stood before the ancient corkboard. Another challenge, in fact two new challenges, presented moments after the Standings had been released. He knew it would be like this, he invited it, he would feel weird sitting idle without being in constant challenge for his title. Some breathing room would be nice he knew, but the more he was challenged, the more he could defend, the better for him
he realized. He knew there were title holders who had been in rank for months yet without challenge or rarely challenged, so longevity as a title holder mattered little to him as much anymore. It was how well and often and times one could defend that made him wonder on the skill of any particular dueler. He shrugged as he looked over the official issues of challenge, knowing it would never matter how many times he defended his titles or how well,
no one would ever concede he actually had any skill. While he never much cared if people respected him as a person or liked him for his character of being, he was often disappointed when people attributed his success to luck or someone else's misfortune. To defend against Jeff, especially after losing to him before in challenge situations and with Jeff's known successful reputation at challenges would be an added bonus to his recent dueling
chapters. So it was he simply skipped off to arrange the details of his next challenges, whistling a little tune. For him it didn't matter what people's reasons were for challenging him, all that mattered to him was winning those challenges regardless of the circumstances involved.
