To the Duel of Swords Community,
As some of you may or may not know, G'nort retired from the Duel of Swords, and K'yorl's challenge to the ninth ring still impending. Because the standings have been posted, stating that the matter has been turned over to the council, I have decided to post my opinion. Someone on the council will keep the community informed, I will try my hardest to make sure of that.
In either case, this is the letter sent to the Council of Barons.

To the Council of Barons,
I have read the standings and, according to Drake, the matter of K'yorl's challenge to the Ninth ring has been turned over to us. I admit I haven't received a letter yet, but I guess this is what we'll have to do.
I am aware of Avery's job as overseer, and hope he is not offended by me putting in my input early, but this is how I see it.
We can do the following:
a) Give K'yorl his peer wins back and let him rechallenge a different baron
b) Decide upon a champion to face K'yorl
I can't think of any others, but I am sure Avery will give us more input if he thinks of anything else.
I have considered my options carefully, and wrote to my first choice as a champion, who agreed to face K'yorl if the majority of the council agrees.
My suggestion? Jaycy Ashleana.
I have few reasons for choosing her, the reasons which I illustrated to her in the letter. It is no secret that I disapproved of Jaycy challenging with invalid peer wins, and I feel that Jaycy beat K'yorl in a match I don't think should have taken place initially. I am planning, with this suggestion, to have Jaycy defend a ring, and following the rules doing so. I do not, by any means, aim to condone how Jaycy got the ring, and this is my
attempt to right what I feel has been a wrong that's been hovering around DoS for a while, at least to me. Maybe this is an attempt to amend Helix's mistake by allowing it to happen. I just feel that this is the right thing to do.

If a baron retires while a challenge is pending, shouldn't the challenger win by forfiet? I'm sorry for asking, I'm kinda new to the Duels.

Did I miss a step where it was decided that the council is opting to make Kyorl fight a champion or are you just picking people in case that's how the vote goes?
Frankly, I think anyone who "retires" after being challenged is a piece of work. What was the rationale here? Make it even harder for the guy to get a ring so sacrifice your own title in hopes of making the ring go to a tourney or make the guy fight a tougher opponent?
Here is one instance where I think the challenger deserves the ring outright after being subjected to such a dirty trick.

The general feeling I get from the council is one hell-bent on keeping the challenger from holding the Ninth. Although I agree with you, I would bet that the challenger is more interested in pillaging someone for the ring than having it handed to him. That was my impression at least,
and I feel Var's suggestion would work best in that case.

To be honest, I don't think it's Var's place to be telling the public what other people have said or suggested in the council's letters. If they want to come forward, cool for them. If not, that's there prerogative. There's a big difference between keeping people updated on the situation and taking somebody else's words and sharing them with everybody. That's not his place.
For the record, I still think I should be the one to test K'yorl, but it doesn't look that way. Given that Gnort and Galin are both equally pathetic duelists, I'd say he's a decent replacement from that perspective. Atleast it means we'll be sure to get another non-ass-kisser on the council.

As for my own thoughts, I think I'd have to strongly disagree with Var here.
The best way for me to express this is a simple little anecdote. My people, the Dragonians, over a course of the past 1,000 years or so have done some cruel things to the Elves. This finally ended about 100 years ago..but if the Elves decided to rise up and slaughter the Dragonsblade family to "avenge the past", would anything truly be accomplished? Plus there is the fact that no matter what anyone tries to do to right a previous wrong, there are
those who still would not be completely satisfied. The best way to deal with the past is to let it be..words or some acts may help..but more often than not they cause more harm. Plus, it would look kind of odd to the public eye if we offered up a champion who was not even of the Warlord rank. That being said, I offer my choice to the Council.
I choose Baron of the Eighth, Galin Taelca to defend the Ninth ring against the challenge of Warlord K'yorl Jarlaxel. The reasoning? He'd be the one who'd actually have any business doing it in the first place. If this was happening to one of your previous rings, wouldn't you want to Champion it? I know I would.
Should Baron Taelca refuse..which I highly doubt he would, I would ask Overlord Shiv Blade to step in and defend the ring for his former Loyal Baron.
