Are you missing it?

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Duel of Swords,
I ask for your patience, for while I try to keep the message short, I have a tendency to ramble.
I was reading through the old posts, mostly in search of finding record of all the challenge matches I have called (I found 14, but I think I called more; that's not the point). During my search, I noticed the bickering we all once witnessed on the boards. And so, I wonder...
What happened that had the boards so silent? Is it apathy, that we no longer care anymore? Or is it maturity? Or are we tired of how things once were in terms of bickering?
I grew tired of it sometimes, and other times I was an active participant of it. Now, I miss it. We learned so much more about the duelers, and in the heated arguments, we had people swarm around the boards to post their own thoughts. There was a sense of community, a type of rope that held everything together despite the fire burning beneath it. There was poetic verbosity, unbloodied battles.
I remember when I wished to become a baron, years ago. I wanted to lead. I wanted to stand at the forefront. Somehow, the lines scattered, and now the Baronial Council no longer leads a community, but leads himself or herself. It meant something more to be a Baron.
The boards grow cold, and need the blanket. I wish to learn to be a leader again.

Are you missing it, older duelers? And to the younger duelers, have you ever truly seen it? See the conflict and telling yourself it is time to take a stand, which drives you to be a leader?

Yes, I am missing it.

Apathy. I no longer have rivals worth trading barbs with, and everyone else who tries is just a pretender to me.

Regards with respect, skill, and honor to the Blade,

Rest in reason, pursue in passion,

It appears as if the bickering started to become a joke for people, and jokes wear thin. I think as the Arena has fallen in activity in recent years, the patrons have learned to appreciate challenges as they come and not to question them. Besides, what is there talk about these days around here?

Rock 'n' roll,

Well..

Everyone just realized I was right. So, they stopped arguing with each other.

Every time I tried to create a new rivalry, or an enemy so that I'd be interested, Nothing. Noone worthy enough to compete with me.

There's one or two interesting people around nowadays who are at least giving me competition in witty retorts and gentle insulting, and that's gotten me interested somewhat. So, yeah, it's just a lack of people who seem to be interested in friendly rivalries.

The only thing that annoyed me, was the ones who were being spiteful and mean for no good reason. Or thinking they're so badass and all.

Ah well.

Corkboard inactivity has to do with the lack of patrons. This is caused by certain old school snobs who think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread and the newer duelers are scum simply because they can't match seniority.

As for me, I think politics surrounding the sport are dumb. I've been around long enough to garner a reputation with the "important" people around here and that reputation sticks no matter what one does. It's like you screw up once and you're screwed forever.

It's a shame, you narrow-minded people miss out. You people will never learn to change and become more accepting of newer duelers or learn to shelter and teach. You may think you're hot stuff when you alienate these newbies, but in reality, you're bafoons who may kill the chance at befriending a future overlord.

Love,
Dustin.

It's apathy.

Translation: I run from any sort of confrontation. That includes Baronial challenges.

And whatthe hell does that have to do with Elijah or with what I said?

It will only make sense to the Scots that wear kilts.
