Glancing up a few seconds after he heard the thud of the mug hitting the table, he saw Jake walking away, glancing at him curiously. "Of course he's cautious," Ryan thought. "here comes a stranger fiddling with his ear that just comes in demanding an ale, and plops down at a table?" Taking his first drink of the black ale, he licked his lips, surprised at the quality of the brew. "Mmm, quite good." he mumbled, placing the silver coins on the table without hesitation. He sat up, taking another drink.
"If I had my ally spirit here, I'd have enough money to buy the place...all the ale anyone could hope for." he pondered, grinning. He'd never do that, of course, using their abilities for personal, greedy purposes was completely out of the question. Now that he'd thought about it, where WAS Nyx? Even in this new world, his ally spirit should still be with him. "We're a part of each other, if I'm here, he should be as well." Worried about his dearest friend, created from his own spirit, his very
soul, he bit his lip, desperately trying to figure out what had happened.

::hearing the Orc call him in, he smiled::

Yeah yeah Lugnut, I'm coming in.... hold your goblins. I just needed to make sure this place wasn't filled with orcs or goblins.

::sees Jammer and Kyttn and Tis::

Nope... just some folks from around town. So Jake, you've gotten respectable? Got any pretzels, or should we strike a business deal? ::chuckles, then sees the brew he poured:: You expect me to drink it, Lugnut? That the orc stuff or the goblin stuff?

Overheard...

"Hey pretzelboy, quit blocking the doorway. If yer gonna come in, come in." The orc chuckled.

"Yeah yeah Lugnut," Rand said and Kyttn nearly choked on her Brew, laughing. "I'm coming in.... hold your goblins." She blinked overhearing that, thinking gee, shouldn't do that in public.. and snickered. "I just needed to make sure this place wasn't filled with orcs or goblins."

"No, couldn't be," Kyt giggled, murmuring into her Brew, which was, thankfully on the house. "It's only called Red ORC brewery... " She gathered up the coins with no compunctions, seeing that the taste-testing part of the business was getting in full swing quickly. She slipped the money into a small pocket in her shorts and finished off her drink.

"So Jake," Rand went on, "you've gotten respectable? Got any pretzels, or should we strike a business deal?: You expect me to drink it, Lugnut? That the orc stuff or the goblin stuff?"

Kyttn couldn't quite imagine Pretzleboy and Lugnut's Tavern, but then again.. it'd make at nice sign. Certainly unusual. She nodded to herself.

Chuffing in amusement, she finished off her brew and moved toward the door, thwacking Rand lightly with her tail on the way. "I'll see ya later Jake! Need to catch up with ya sometime, ya know? Did ya hear that Kelli an' Stof are getting hitched?" She grinned. "You got a good start here.. goodluck!"

Goon looked around with a goofy grin as he finished off his drink. He reached into his vest, and pulled out a fairly large, black bottle. He waited for Jake to walk by, then tugged his sleeve to get him to come over.

"Orc drink not bad, Demon Rum lot good! Goon have..want try?" Goon grinned and nudged Jake with the bottle. "Goon promise make lot money if sell!"

((You know, I think this thread needs its own folder!))

Ryan choked on his ale when he saw Goon pull the black bottle out. "Oh man, I hope that stuff's not toxic." he mumbled, hoping that Jake had some kind of fire insurance. "Nah...Goon probably has good judgment, even though he is, well....Goon." Shrugging, he finished off his ale, waiting to see if Jake stayed concious after drinking Goon's Demon Rum before asking for another ale.

Jay had just come back from a practice dueling night when he saw the sign for the Red Orc Brewery. Realizing he was a bit thirsty, he headed the way the signs pointed. He walks up to the door and realizes it's blocked by.. Jay waited calmly for Rand to get out of the doorway.

He finally got in the door, and was immediatly thrown out of it by a rather large explosion. Dusting off, he ran back into the bar to see what the heck happened and there was Goon, standing with the remnants of a mug of beer in his hand. Everyone else was unconsious from the blast or passed out from drinking too much. "Goon, what in the world happened!?" Jay called, looking around for the 'tender. Goon replied - "Jake not like Demon Rum."

Jake smiled and waved as Kyttn headed out. "Stof and Kelli getting married?" The orc nodded to himself, "I guess it makes sense, I was there when he proposed." With another wave to Kyttn Jake turned back to pretzelboy and made a face.
"Too chicken to try a taste?" The orc shook his head. "You have no appreciation for good ales."
The orc made an exaggerated sigh. "No it's not an orcish ale. Actually I made this one in memory of Siera Redwin. It's a red with some bite, but a clean taste. Give a try. You might even like it."
Jake reached under the counter and pulled out a bowl of pretzels with a grin. Each pretzel looked suspiciously like a stick figure that had been wrapped into a pretzel. Some of them almost seemed to make faces of pain. Jake slipped off before Rand reacted to the pretzels.
As Goon came and pushed his Demon Rum at him the Orc frowned. "Rum? Isn't that what pirates drink? They should drink orcish ale instead." Doing his best to avoid trying anything with the name demon in it's name. " 'sides, this is Red Orc Brewery. I only got the supplies and stuff for making ale. Don't know how to make Demon Rum."

BOOM!

Goon was getting frustrated by Jake's putoffs. He just knew the bottle in his hand held a drink far superior to Orcish Ale, or anything else for that matter. He thought, Orc man must be lot slow, not learn Demon Rum lot good! So Goon persisted in bugging Jake to try the stuff. But Jake was getting obviously annoyed with Goon's badgering.

Goon thought about his little problem for a bit, then decided to crack the bottle open and give Jake a whiff. Surely that would change his mind! Pop went the top...Goon waved the bottle around as Jake passed. Jake sniffed the air a little, then turned his head slowly towards the grinning Goon. Jake took the bottle, growled, "I said I don't want any!", and banged it down on the bar in front of Goon.

Alas, while Goon was after Jake, Jammer was finishing his cigarette. Not paying any attention, he flicked the smoke away, but not a good direction...towards the bar. Just as Jake put the bottle back on the bar, the cigarette, apparently having eyes, found its way down the neck of the bottle. Unbeknownst to everyone, Demon Rum is rather volatile. The cigarette ignited the liquid inside, shattering it, and fireballing the whole place!

The explosion flashed in and out of existence, leaving a lot of hurting people in its wake. Goon blinked, stared at the hand that was now short one bottle of Demon Rum, and blinked again. Hearing footsteps, he turned around to see a roomful of unconscious bar patrons and a coughing Jay just coming in. Jay asked, "Goon, what in the world happened!?" Goon replied, "Orc man say not like Demon Rum, hit bottle down, bottle boom!", as he blew out a small puff of black smoke. Jay was understandably baffled.

Tisman woke up to a severe headache, although it was well worth it. Not many things in the places that he had been could actually make him have a nice lil buzz, much less let him get slap happy toasted... It seems that Goon's antics combined with a nonchalant flick of a cigarette butt had made quite an impression on Jake's new establishment, leaving him covered with an odd black soot. Tis looked up at Jay and Goon talking over what had happened through his slightly singed eyebrows, then down at
his kilt. The soot stained his dress tartan and needless to say, Tis was not all to thrilled...
"You little bugger! You trying to blow the place to the gods? Geez, Jake can't even have his shop open for a week before you try to trash it..." Tis yelled at Goon. He promptly led Goon out by the ear into the street and gave him a thorough scolding before heading back in to start helping clean the place, after cleaning of his kilt...

"Uhhhh...." Ryan woke up to find himself sprawled across the rubble that, two minutes ago, had been his table and chair. He struggled to his feet, trying to brush most of the soot and bits of wood from his clothes. After a minute of mumbling and cursing, and ten or twenty splinters, he looked around the room....the others were just as confused, Goon was trying to explain to Jake (in his own unique way) how the cigarette butt had managed it's way over to Goon's bottle of blasted (pun intended) Demon
Rum. Ian was over by the bar yelling about his kilt, yanking Goon away by the ear. It would all be pretty funny, if not for the very real possiblity of a lawsuit. Ryan sighed, running his hands through his hair. "Well, at least no one was seriously hurt..." Ian even seemed to be getting a buzz from the vapors. He just hoped that there weren't anymore bottles of that stuff lying around near open flames....

As Goon tried and tried to tell Jay what had happened, but having little success in explaining anything but the obvious, the people in the bar started to come to, one by one. He looked around at them, one by one, but his head snapped back over to look at the slightly darker than before Tis. The main reason for this..attention, being that Tis did not look particularly pleased with something.

Tis started yelling, ""You little bugger! You trying to blow the place to the gods? Geez, Jake can't even have his shop open for a week before you try to trash it..." Goon was quite startled by all the yelling in his direction, especially since he thought Jake must have broken some kind of magic thing in the bar in order to produce an explosion like that. As he started to say something, Tis grabbed his ear and angrily dragged him away.

Outside, Tis kept yelling at Goon, through Goon's attempts at defending himself by saying, "Not Goon fault! Orc man make boom!" The infuriated man finally finished scolding Goon, then walked past him, whipping his kilt around to clean it off (and giving Goon more of a sight than he ever could have wanted). As Tis stomped back into the bar, Goon just stood there, saying to himself, "That more than Goon want see..that more than Goon want see.."

Red Orc Ale...Blackened style

Post by DoF Archive » Fri Mar 12, 2004 9:36 pm

From: JakeThrash

Jake couldn't believe what happened. One minute he was trying to get Goon to quit trying to force-feed him that Demon Rum, and the next moment things were blowing about all around him.
As Jake opened his eyes he could see black soot and scorched remnants of wood paneling scattered about the room. The counter was a shambles of burnt and shattered wood that lay all about him. Jake wasn't sure when the last time something had made him hurt as much as he did now. It must have been the last time that crazy wizard had dropped a fireball on the Company of the Iron Fist. Jake shook his head and slowly began clambering back to his feet; his ears were still ringing from the blast which
had gone off right next to him.
Jake set a hand to the side of his head and wished the troll pounding on his skull would go away. He gazed about the room. It looked as if no one had been seriously hurt. Probably because the orc had taken the brunt of the blast, or maybe it had just been luck, but either way the orc was glad that no one had gotten hurt. It would be bad for business after all.
Goon was in front of him trying to explain something, but his words were nothing more than gibberish with the troll still pounding away. Before Jake could say anything, Tis was dragging Goon off and it looked as if Goon was getting yelled at, but Jake wasn't sure since he still couldn't hear anything. It was a happy coincidence that Jake had been wearing his armor. He'd pulled it out for inspection, and also because he enjoyed wearing it around town every now again to intimidate people. The armor
had probably saved his life. As it was, there were scorch marks all over the armor and Jake was sure it would take hours of polishing to clean up. Good thing that orcs didn't polish armor. Heck maybe the scorch marks would make it look more intimidating.
Slowly the orc's hearing started coming back. Goon was still trying to explain that the "orc" must have done something, and Tis was busy explaining that it was Goon's fault. Jake began to piece together what had happened and as he did so, he alternated between wanting to turn Goon into human soccerball and lamenting the damage to his week-old brewery. Fortunately the building was mostly hard brick and so the damage looked superficial. The wood paneling, the table and chairs, everything in the
front room seemed to be a shambles, but the brick wall separating the front room from the brewery itself had saved Jake from any real loss.
________________________

By the time Jake completed his assessment and his hearing came back fully, most of the visitors had wandered off. Jake wasn't happy that his front room had been blown up, but he figured some new paneling, a few chairs, a table, a new counter, and a LOT of sweeping, the place would be back in order.
Jake set off to find Goon so that he could be the first "volunteer" to help Jake start the repairs.

Tisman pulled up in an old beat up pickup truck, its bed filled with many gifts for the orc's establishment. He yelled inside "Hey Jake! Got some stuff until you can get better furniture!" Before he could hear an answer,Tis set to work, dragging some wrought iron chairs that had been sitting in the shed at Weeping Willows since his pack had... left. He pulled a somewhat shaggy cedar table that seated twelve and a knotted pine table that was the same size off of the bed of the old truck that a
friend on earth lent him, setting both down with the chairs. Tis worked quickly at sanding down the rough spots on the tabletops and put on a fresh coat of sealant, so that the tables could be protected from the many inevitable spills that were sure to come.
He sat down in one of the old chairs after repairing a slight problem with one leg being a little shorter than the others, leaning back and looking over his handiwork. Tis looked over the face of the building and scratched his chin. "You know Jake, if you're gonna turn this place into a lil pub and brewery combination, you should turn this into a little patio for your patrons to enjoy the night air. It's got the perfect facing for an awning, and would prevent any further... accidents," he said,
more to himself than the orc inside. Tis smiled to himself and pulled out a measuring tape, starting to look over the dimensions on the front.
He jotted down the measurements and smiled. "You know Jake, I got most of the materials at the farm. All you gotta do is spring for some canvas, and I can get right to work building the patio for ya. Won't cost ya much, just a keg with my name in the back so's I can come and sit under my handiwork... What you think?" Tis checked on the sealant on the table, and seeing it was well dry, kicked his feet up on the table, leaning back until Jake had enough time to talk to him about the small
business propsition.
Tis put a bottle of Demon Rum on the end of the cedar table furthest from the building, just in case Goon were to show up again. Perhaps this time, there wouldn't be another... accident. Tis pulled out his flask of scotch and lit a cigarette, raising the former high into the air and toasting to much success for the Red Orc Pub and Brewery.

Goon was wandering aimlessly around the forest outside town, trying to find more mushrooms to eat, when he heard someone walking around. He hid behind the biggest tree he could find, peered out, and saw Jake looking around. "That orc man!", Goon said. "Orc man got be lot mad..Goon got hide!"

Goon tried to keep the tree between himself and Jake, but he realized eventually that the tree wasn't quite big enough to hide all of him. He thought hard, and finally said to himself, grinning, "Goon bet orc man not do sword fight! Goon go do sword fight, orc man never find!" So he burst out from behind the tree, charging full steam towards the Dueler's Arena, hoping and assuming that Jake wouldn't see him...

::after the explosion, covered with soot and small splinters of wood panelling, Rand grabbed the pretzels that Jake had so 'kindly' fashioned, and stashed them to throw at people. in the confusion, he managed to grab the ale Jake had offered him, and try it while no one could notice. surprised that it actually was good, and soothed a throat full of smoke, he slipped out before Jake could throw a temper tantrum and try to blame him for the explosion. he'd be sure to come bak later and buy some stuff
and bother good ol' Lugnut some more.::
