Phil vs. Roland, results and comments

I do hereby declare, that upon this night, July 22, 1998, at 11 pm by the eastern clock, the Warlord Phil did indeed proceed in his challenge against the Baron Roland. I was honored to be chosend to officiate, and, as is always the case with duelists of such skill, it was a difficult match to call. Both duelists moved with a fluid grace and amazing speed. I did my best, and called it as I saw
it. Here are the results:

So, in a close duel, the Baron did retain his ring. Well done both of you.

(( Author's Note: As I see it, the duels are not cut and dry. There are feints and tips and dances and touches, changes of mind, et cetera. It is for this reason that I believe an official is necessary. It is up to the official (in soccer and other sports) to determine which plays are legal (scoring or otherwise) and which are foul and whether or not to stop play (annouce a round). Basically, I see Rand as a referee for a sport that needs
officials and that is why the calls are long... because I see him calling them as he sees them.... deciding that what just occurred deserved a point, or a stoppage of a round, and then letting those watching know how he arrived at that decision. I'm sorry if this is not how you would like duels called, but I don't see it cut and dry, and won't call duels like that unless it is necessary, or I am asked to do so. ))

A grand defense from you, Roland. You bested me in a close match and you retained your right to the twelfth ring. This match proved to be quite a challenge... one that I failed to succeed in, and I can safely say that this time, "It is my fault." But that doesn't mean that I won't be wearing a ring again soon enough, so everyone keep your eyes open and your blades sharp.
