Her clammy, pale hands moved to the bare stomach. Lily looked down at the spiritual healer. She was swimming in a pool of emotions. The healer looked up at her.
"What is it?" asked the fairy.
"You are pregnant."
Her eyebrows raised and she could feel her stomach twisting and turning.
"That isn't possible," Lily told her, "It's just not possible."
"I think you know it is."
Lily turned her face away. She could feel her dry eyes filling with tears. How could this have happened? What was she going to do? What could she do?
As if the healer had read her mind (perhaps she had) she told the fairy, "You have two alternatives. You can either have the child, or we can do away with it."
"Do away with it?" Lily was perplexed by the expression. The healer ran a nimble finger across her neck, signaling she meant they would have to kill the baby if Lily wouldn't have it.
"I'll think about it." She hopped off the table and strolled out of the building.

After stepping into a fresh flannel nightgown Lily moved to a window seat. Her knees curled up to her chest and she gazed out the window at the streets of Rhydin. The welled tears finally started to fall. At first it was one by one, and gradually it became uncontrolable crying.
She stayed in that same pposition all night. Through blurred vision she watched the last quarter of the moon fall and the sun slowly rise for its daily reign.
Watching the last quarter fall.
