Ok, recently I had said in public that in this upcoming warlord's tournement, if I get lucky enough to place high enough to get a prize, I said I would turn it down. Well, after much consideration, I changed my mind. This is why...
I have been called "obsessed" with the fourth ring. "Friends" have told me to just move on with my life. Personally, I think a friend wouldn't say things like that, so I guess those people aren't really my friends. After all, I am human. I have every right to be obseesed about that particular ring. Why is it so wrong to want that item? An item that reminds me of my wife who left me..my son I don't even know, and while I held that
ring, it was actually a good period in my life. I mean come on, if I was to retake the fourth ring, god forbid I might actually have a reason to smile lately, having salvaged *something* from a bad time. But, according to those around me, I am not supposed to have feelings, pride, or emotions and I am certainley not allowed to be upset about the way the ring was taken from me.
Yes, that is correct, my wife left me and took our newborn son with her. So what if I want the fourth back to have a "trinket" to remind me of a time when I was actually happy. So, come this tourney, I will be moving on. Since being determained to regain a good reason to "smile" is mode for critique. Oh and before I forget, I had also been told that I am not the first to go through those problems. To that I say..."I am not them" We
all take things differently. Makes me sick...people telling me I shouldn't act the way I do. Yes I am bitter. I have reason. Like it or not, and it is wrong for *anyone* to try and tell me I am in the wrong. Yes, I shoot my mouth off from time to time, but it is from hurt and anger I do that, and what makes matters worse, I get criticised for it. Nobody even so much tries to understand the hurt I went through. The humiliation of not only loosing the
fourth ring, but even worse humiliation in my attempt to regain it when I got shut out. People...EXCUSE ME FOR HAVING EMOTIONS AND FEELINGS AND PRIDE IN MYSELF!

This is a long note, but please, do read it.

Obsession...can consume a man. Dictate his thoughts. Drive him to the point where he thinks of nothing but it and neglects everything else in turn.

Perhaps that is why your friends advise you so. Please allow me to be frank: By your following statement: "Friends" have told me to just move on with my life. Personally, I think a friend wouldn't say things like that, so I guess those people aren't really my friends.", it seems to me that you are saying that all you want for friends are yes-men. I think that they say what they do because they are your friends, and they want to see
you happy. The ring itself cannot make you happy. You can make yourself happy, however.

I understand how you feel about having the ring back, even though I am currently holding it. However, I personally feel that you would help yourself better if you tried to build new memories rather than think about what bad times have fallen on you lately.

Think of it this way: If you do win a ring in the tournament, use it as a way to build more good memories. I am sure the time you are going through is difficult, but your life is nae over. You can certainly build better times in the future, with or without this ring.

As a side note to something you said, take it from me, there are worse, more humiliating ways to lose a ring. There is nothing dishonorable about going down with a fight.

As far as your "shooting your mouth off", as you claim it, if you are that angry, perhaps it is simply better to say nothing. You may find that you will not only draw less criticism, but less people may be hurt by what you say.

Don't be angry at my words. I do not intend to criticize, but only wish to offer some advice on the future. Take it how you will, but please don't dismiss it.

I know this is not very organized, but I put it down as I thought of it. I'm no expert, but I felt a need to say something. I understand that you have suffered great loss. I know where you come from in that regard. I am just trying to give some advice. Maybe I have been further removed from it, and you think I do not understand. In that case, please do not be angry.

Thank ye, Huma. I'm glad ye have opted to try and not further tarnish an already beaten ring by questing for it a third time.

...Noting that Lupton is a hypocrite. Dueling Jeff all those times for the same ring. Retaking the same ring he had held before. Pot calling the kettle black....

::stopping to read the posts, he chuckles at Lupton's jest, a remark obviously made in humorous reference to his own multiple tries for a certain ring. After all, Lupton certainly didn't forget about that moment of dueling history. The young General chuckles at the obvious and relatively amusing remark that only a total twit would fail to catch or misinterpret, and moves on with his life::

Huma,

As you know, there is no expiration date on grief. I am sorry to see that you feel you aren't getting the support you need to help you through a very trying time. Coping mechanisms are very individual and personal. If you feel that shooting for a ring will help bring back some of the positive and uplifting parts of your life, then, by all means, do so. We all need goals and we all need some good news.

Huma,
This message will not be intended to insult, for I think you are a good person. However, you are very hard on yourself during duels, and it eventually gets to the point where you concentrate on what you should have done, as oppose to giving your opponent credit for earning the point.
Personally, I don't think it's so wrong to go after a ring in particular, but I find it wrong to call it your ring. Granted, you defended the ring four times, but the achievement and recognition is the only thing that belongs to you as a result.
Now, I know sometimes one might say it's their ring for quick reference, but they are aware the ring does not belong to them.

Regarding friends; friends want you happy. If you wanted to jump off a cliff, would you feel better if your friends said, "Need a push?" Let's hope not. They want you happy, Huma, and when they encourage you to move on, they feel you're making yourself miserable by not moving on. I don't know you as well as your other friends, but I can offer some advice:

You'll be a lot happier, realizing the ring is not your's. Put it in your possession, by challenging for it. When you know the ring's not your's, losing a challenge won't hurt you so bad emotionally (though there is disappointment most of the time, understandable), and being without the ring won't make you so unhappy. Plus, sportsmanship gives you more respect in the rings.

Simply,

::sighs to herself and talks to no one in particular, but whomever is standing near her might hear::

It's been tried. How long can one encourage a friend before being worn down from constant negativity, anger and bitterness? Maybe it's time for old friends to move on, if Huma won't.
