Well,
Does it really matter what Anon did? I mean people have challenged idly on the boards before...of course they were just shooting the bull like saying, "Let's dethrone Dal" and all this other stuff. But if ye really sit down and analyze it..what should be done, should he go free? Should he be stripped of his right? I challenged Seamus a couple of days ago, legitamately mind ye, both by mail and posting it..posting it was the biggest mistake I could
have made..it caused a slight controversy over a forfeited peer win and a defense of the peer win. So instead of going through all the heartache..I withdrew it. Should my right be stripped too? No, I don't believe so because I challenged according to the rules and withdrew the challenge before Baron Seamus responded...But Anon's is a tough call, just reviewing it kinda makes ye laugh, as Evan said..1-It was tacky and completely an insult to the ways
of challenging and the Baron. 2-It contained Peer Wins, that nobody except Anon and the caller, and maybe his opponent knew about, and 3-It contained no real reason that Anon wanted the challenge, or the ring. So, I believe punishment should be ordered, because the rules state consequences are made for breaking the challenge rules, and if he isn't punished it contradicts these rules, as G'nort said...he must learn by action, not by words..a baby

This is something I blew my temper on a while ago with Zen and then Phil. Look, this is happening way too much. The rules are clearly stated as to what steps are needed to be taken to issue a proper challenge. Once again I'll say it: if you jump in you better know how to swim.
There are just too many people around here that one can consult to ensure their challenge is being done properly. If a challenger can't do that, then hell yes I question their worth to hold a ring. Many of you talk about returning respect to the rings, well lets show a little respect to the positions of the barony's and the people wearing the rings.
I propose this; once a challenge is made it is unable to be recalled. If a challenger is adament about not following through with the challenge once it is made, that challenger loses all peer wins and is unable to challenge again until the next cycle.
The proper procedures to issue a challenge have been established and making a mistake doing so is an absolutly avoidable mistake. There is no excuse for not getting it right.
Just a word to Anon; this is not a personal attack against you, so don't take it that way. You're only another one to come along to do what a handful of others before you have done.

Next time someone challenges with Illegal Peer wins, you all should keep quiet and say nothing. This way the person who makes an improper challenge learns their mistakes on their own and suffers the proper punishment.
G, you wrote this and I couldn't agree more with you. When I wrote what amounted to the same thing I was accussed of trying to limit freedom of speech. I applaud you on restating it and hope that everyone can see that not all rights are or should be absolute.

1) Style, etiquette, and politeness, though nice, are never disqualifying. There have been many challenges in which the challenger was rude. What about Jesse Troyan? And others, too.
3) Why does he need a reason? I recall one dueler who once said that his reasons are his own. Other duelers have also not given reasons. If he simply said, "Evan. I want your ring. I'm challenging.", would that have been any better?
While his challenge is quite casual, and not at all well done, I think that you're attacking too many minor things.

I don't approve of jumping all over people for challenging. It seems that a lot of people really want to insult people. So if a challenge is personal and angry, they castigate the challenger for not making a friendly, honorable challenge. If the challenge is friendly and honorable, they castigate the challenger for challenging "frivolously". I try not to do either.
