On the eve of September 9th, 1998, the match for the right to wear the Seventh Baronial Ring of the Duel of Swords was held. Warlord Kalamere Ar'Din issued challenge to the holder, Loyal Baron Perrinis Alabaster. The match was held under the open skies of the Battlefield and officiated by Golden Evermeadow.

Lord Ar'Din, a former Baron and Overlord on several occasions, was seconded by Warlord Percival de Clermont. His Lady of Honor was another who held a ring, the Lady Morgan le Fay, Baroness of the Fifth Ring.

Lord Alabaster, who was attempting his first defense of the illustrious Seventh Baron's Ring, was seconded by Warlord Rix Favre. His Ladies of Honor were the Lady Alanna St. Reynolds and the Lady Delilah Alabaster. He dueled under the colors of the Garrison Territory - royal blue and slate. His weapon was a large riot tonfa.

Results are as follows:

Round Kalamere Ar'Din Score Perrinis Alabaster
1. Fancy Circular Parry 0 - 0 Fancy Circular Parry
2. Fancy Sidestep 1 - 0 Fancy Lateral Parry
3. Low Cut 1 - 1 Thrust
4. Thrust 2 - 1 Slash
5. Fancy Sidestep 2 - 1 Fancy Duck
6. Stop Hit 2 - 1 Fancy Lateral Parry
7. High Cut 2 - 2 Thrust
8. Fancy Sidestep 2 - 3 Low Cut
9. Stop Hit 3 - 3 Thrust
10. Thrust 4 - 3 High Cut
11. Slash 5 - 3 Fancy Circular Parry

Thus Kalamere Ar'Din was successful in his challenge, defeating Perrinis Alabaster by a final score of 5 - 3 in 11 rounds. Following the very close match, Baron Ar'Din declared his alignment as Renegade to Overlord Dalamar Ar'Daumon.

Well done Kalamere! If I may say so, I never doubted that you would pull it off. I also approve whole heartedly of your alignment. Then, you knew both of those things already.
Perrinis, it was well tried. You made a valiant fight of it.

Fellow Duelists,

I write to offer my thanks to many. To all of you who have congratulated me upon this board and to everyone who was in attendance last night... regardless of who you were there to root for. The crowd was boisterous, yet respectfull, the perfect combination for such an event.

To my second, Percival and my Lady of Honor Morgan le Fay, both of whom helped me in ways I cannot quite explain. And most importantly to General Alabaster. Not only was your blade sharp sir, but you conducted yourself with the honor befitting a baron. The challenge was an excellent example of sportsmanship.

As many of you have already read, I have chosen the alignment of Renegade. I wish to make it clear that this is not out of any personal conflict with Dalamar nor do I have any present wish to wrest that title from his hands. On the contrary, I believe Dalamar has been a fine Overlord in most regards. My issue with Dalamar is the practice of testing the worthiness of Baron challengers. Despite the friendship I might feel for one who has been a
duelist within these halls for as long as I have and longer, I can not, and will not, support any Overlord who will continue to do this.

Naturally, most already know my stance on that issue, but I felt it necessary to repeat at this time.

Once again, I give you my thanks..

Kalamere,

It was my pleasure to assist you in any way that I could. While I am probably more radical than you in my beliefs, and we have may disagreements, we have certain things in common. I also consider you a good friend and I am proud to count you as such. What I did for you I will do again at any time you so require it. That is what friends do.

::blinks, and replies::

Kalamere..
Maybe you really are getting old and senile, but I duel with a tonfa. Also known as a billy club to some, it's a bludgeon.. not too sharp.

With a grin,

Lord Kalamere,

Differances aside, I would say that the Seventh fits you well. You are more than a worthy defender of a title I feel to be a special Ring, at least unto myself. Well won to you and may you defend it with the honor we all know you to have, Renegade to the Crown....or otherwise.
My only regret is that you denied me the pleasure of winning that title back for myself. As my exeunt from said Barony is not something I wished to leave unanswered.
Again, my congratulations.

General Perrinis,

With you sir, I have more than differances. But they are moot and I am uncaring for them. You defended your title honorablly and to the best of your ability. And though while not agreeing with your actions while you held the Seventh as a Baron....and you general conduct while holding it, a personal feeling, nothing more, I am not the man to judge another for what he does with what is rightfully his.
A well fought attempt General, you have my thanks for not compounding the insult of your single easy victory over me for my title, by not outdefending me as well. Again...well tried. See you...of course, in the ranks old boy.

I am,

General Alabaster,

Rest assured, I have grown neither old nor senile before my time. My words were meant as an expression, as I deemed the phrase "your blade was sharp" to read better than "your stick was well polished." Perhaps it will suffice to say instead, that you fought well..

Regards,
~Kalamere...
