Missing.

Their mother was missing. She hadn't been seen in at least three days, and Dawn was getting worried. She knew Jaycy could handle herself, but where was she? Looking up, Dawn watched as her sister Skye paced the room they shared. Worry was mirrored on both girls' faces as they caught the other's eye. "Where could she be?" Dawn ventured. Shaking her head, Skye's reply was soundless, the girl not knowing what to say.

Dawn stood, and started pacing herself, pale violet wingtips bouncing slightly as she walked back and forth over the thick carpet. It definitely wasn't like their mother to do something like this, and she should have been back by now. But what... no, she couldn't dare to think of that. Jaycy *was* fine.

Dawn had been to the Arena twice now, looking in case their mother was there, and both times, Jaycy's friends had said they hadn't seen her. But last night... Dawn couldn't quite remember what was said. All she knew was Drake had mentioned Uncle Neris. Dawn had been too busy playing with Barackk as he worked. He was fun to play with. But then Skye made her go home... stupid sisters. She looked up to her sister, frowning.

Skye was lost in her own thoughts, remembering what Drake had said. Now... as she thought, she understood what she needed to do.

"We need to find Uncle Neris and talk to him."

Galena sat in her room, next to the girls'. In her hand, lay a note. From who? Jaycy, of all people. Every day she had gotten a note regarding care of the children. She could understand the gypsy's sudden, unexplained absence, but these notes were... well, in a word, odd.

"Galena,

I needed to get away for a few days, but the children need to be cared for. They need to be in bed by.... "

This in itself wasn't unusual, but what followed was.

"... and please don't tell the children of these notes. I'm taking a day or two away from everything, and were they to know we're in contact, they would be tempted to seek me out, thus not allowing me to get the time I need. Should they ask you anything directly, do not lie to them, but please, do not offer any information.

Thank you,
Jaycy"

She just couldn't understand... but in a way, she could. She knew the gypsy was busy, sometimes too busy for her own good. But her job was to baby-sit the kids, and to teach them, not their mother. Who was she to say anything to a grown woman? She had hoped that gentlemen... hoped he could help settle Jaycy down a bit, get her mind off her work... but something had gone wrong. Shaking her head, Galena laid down, closing her eyes for a mere
moment.

Damn Gnort. Damn him for being so difficult.

Damn Neris. Damn him for knowing too much.

Damn... damn him. Damn him for being who he was. Oh, who was she kidding? She couldn't damn him.

Staring out the window, Jaycy sighed. She didn't like doing things the way she was, but she couldn't think of anything else to do. So close, yet worlds away, and she didn't dare let anyone know. Her children came and went, worry plain on their faces. She hated worrying them, but if they knew... they would give too much away. It was bad enough she had been found out, and so easily. At least he had promised... thank gods.

Slowly, her gaze shifted to the door... expectantly. But it didn't open, and she lowered her head, sighing to herself. Sliding into the chair behind her, she was beginning to think she had been right. The idea of disappearing was looking better and better....
