"My lady of honour is the lovely Lady Sarana......"
It had all begun with those words. The burst of feeling from his heart as he had spoken the words, "Will you marry me?", followed by the huge euphoria that had set in when she had said "Aye, I will." After that, very little that had happened that night had mattered. He had been a little disappointed as Ajay had pulled into a 3-1 lead, and a little happy as he had pulled the match back to 3-3. He had felt little more than brief frustration when
Ajay had scored his final two points, driving the nail into the coffin. It had not really mattered, though he had been a little disappointed.
He mad moved abck to his corner, accepting the congratulations of those friend who thought he and Sara worthy of them. As far as he was concerned, the real challenge had been won before the duel every began. He had won a huge victory when Sara had very softly said the words, "Aye, I will." He had not lost a thing that night. He had met no defeat. He would never meet any defeat again as long as he had Sara's love.
That was the best part. For the first time, Sara had returned his gaze and his embrace and had said, "I love you too." He was the luckiest man in the universe. And the happiest.

Later that night, after spending a short, VERY happy night with Sara, he had dealt with one item of important business. He hoped that Valmion wouldn't be too upset when he found out, but he had decided that it really was for the best to do this.
He found G'nort as quickly as possible, and not too long after that they met in the Golden Ivy Tavern. There were a couple of relatively minor details that he wanted cleared up, so he mentioned them.
"The first is the team," he said simply, "It has a very personal value to me. I don't mind associating it with the house, but I have to retain some control."
"The team is yours," G'nort replied, "Completely under your control, that is not a problem."
"Great," Percy replied with a small smile, "The second concern has to do with my school. Unlike the team, I can see myself eventually handing it over to the house. I don't minding giving special deals to house members who wish to either teach or join. But at the moment, I still need to retain control."
Again G'nort nodded as he answered, "That won't be a problem either. Your school and your team are yours."
Percy broke into a wide grin. "Then I don't think we have any problems."
"I don't either. You've officially joined House Dragoon Talanador."

Percy was still feeling high. He hadn't expected to feel that way as the night had begun. First he had been hammered by Lyon, an opponent he had defeated in their only previous encounters. That had hurt his pride, and his pride was one of his weak points.
Then had come the news that Jaycy had been hurt. He had felt bad when he found out what had happened to Jola, but this was different. He hadn't seen Jola until after she had semi-recovered. He had been thinking about his challenge. He had just been grateful she had been able to make it to second him. He had been so happy she was alright.
He had seen Jay lying there in a pool of her own blood. He had seen Marit heal her, and seen Marit collapse into near unconsciousness afterward. However, he had also seen Jay healed. Mostly healed, at least. He had seen Marit regain her consciousness and sound pretty well off.
He had returned to the Annex, promising to wait for Sara. He had fought a duel while waiting, against Sir Joran. He had won a tough fight in 8 rounds. Felt good, since back when Sir Joran was only a M@A he had gotten very lucky and taken a match from him.
Sara had arrived, and they had spent quality time together in between duels. He was surprised every time she told him she loved him. Part of him had known that, of course, but a big part of him had doubted it. Now he knew for certain. It felt good.
Then had come another duel. Against Roland. For some reason he always seemed to be at his best against Roland. This was his best showing against Roland yet, too. He managed to win, by some mixture of luck and skill, in 6 rounds, by a score of 5-2. It felt good. His rough patch seemed to be behind him. It would take one more duel to convince him.
While he was waiting for it, Khrys came in. He was able to persuade her to join he and Sara. It was very good to see her. He had been worried ever since she had failed to show to call his match with Ajay. Knowing she was alright really helped. Especially since two of his friends HADN'T been alright. He had joked with her, and talked about a few serious things with her, Sara, and Drake as well.
Then had come that final match. The toughest of the night, even tougher than his loss to Lyon. Another one against a Baron, this time Seamus. It only lasted 8 rounds, but someone scored in every round but one. When it was all over, Percy had won. But at a score of 5-4, by a very narrow margin.
Still, all in all, the night had turned out to be a good one. Jaycy would be okay, with time. Marit was fine. Khrys was great. He loved Sara so much he could cry. And his bad luck in the rings was over.

This second night was not to stay happy, however. As he headed up the stairs to his room he noticed a shadow flickering in the corner of his eye. He spun quickly, not having time to draw his blade before the short sword wieliding man attacked.
He threw up his left arm, warding off the attack, feeling the point of the blade find his bicep. He blocked out the pain, drawing Scalpel with his right hand. Damn, he was very grateful for Kal's gift now.
He grabbed the attacker's wrist with his left hand, clamping down until he felt the bones crunch under his grip. He lunged back with the dagger, the man's jerking left arm knocking his attack slightly offline. Instead of the heart, his blade sunk into the man's belly.
It made little difference, twisting his dagger he ripped it upwards. The man screamed, falling back. Percy released his grip and let him tumble down the stairs.
He continued on his way up the stairs. This hadn't happened for awhile now. Obviously Edge was still out there somewhere, watching him.
When her eached his room he carefully bandaged his left arm. Well, he would make sure he did his dueling with his sword for the next few days. That would give his arm time to heal.

The challenge had come first. He had a commitment to second Magnus, and he was going to follow through on it. It had been an uncomfortable start. Unagi had grabbed an early 1-0 lead, which he was able to stretch to 2-1. Magnus had shown he was up to the match, however. He had tied the match at 1-1 and at 2-2, and then he took the go ahead. He finally won by a score of 5-2, proving Percy right about him. He wouldn't
do too badly.
Thursday night had been even better than Wednesday night, in some ways. Sara had been there once again, and that always made him very happy indeed. She was beautiful, possibly the most beautiful woman he knew. He loved just being in the same room with her, even when they were both dueling, as they had been last night.
It had been a good night in the rings, too. He had lost his first duel of the night again, to Var, another opponent he usually beat. That was an interesting parallel with Wednesday. But after that, like Wednesday, he couldn't seem to lose. The breaks all seemed to come his way. It was almost as if he was unstoppable.
Anon had gone down first. Lately he had been acting almost polite to people, which was unusual in and of itself. He had put up a fight for 8 rounds, but Percy had won 5-3. It had felt pretty good.
Next he had fought Agrenish. He did well against an opponent who had been a Baron and who had a bit of a reputation for skill, even if most of his reputation was for bad manners. Again it had gone 8 rounds, a good fight the whole time. Percy had managed to win it again, 5-3. Interesting coincedences lately.
His toughest fight of the night had been against a commoner, of all things. Xerzes had put up a good fight, had really wanted to win. It had gone a grueling 11 rounds, each working hard. The score, 5-2.5, didn't reflect very accurately the work that both combatants had put into the duel. It had been a tough one.
The last duel was the one he was most proud of. Daegarth Mithmellon was one of the duelists he respected most, in and out of the rings. It had gone 9 rounds, a very tought match, each working hard. Percy had managed to take it home, 5-3.
This night, as Percy wandered up the stairs, there was no attack. No ambush. That was the best part.

That morning, Percy was surprised to meet a familiar face. He slowly made his way to the bar to take a second look. It was the same red hair and freckled face. Percy approached the man, needing to be sure.
"Dougal," he asked quietly, "Is that you?"
"Aye, m'lor," came back the reply, "I' tis, i' tis. How are things in this wee nook of the multiverse?"
Percy took a look at the man, making sure he was right. Sir Dougal McMurdoch had been a member of the King of France's Scotch Guard. He was youngish, good looking, and brave as a lion. He had served with the French army that Clermont had led against the English at Fleury, and had been shoulder to shoulder with Percy when they had broken the back of the English army with one last death or glory charge. After that he had entered Percy's service.
One question came to mind.
"Things are well, Dougal," Percy said with a smile, "But what are you doing here? And how did you get here?"
"I used th' portal in yuir chambers, yuir grace," Dougal told him with a grin, "I figured that ye might take heartin knowin' that yuir people need you. It but be a matter of whether ye wish te return te us, or we should join ye here."
"Dougal, I think it would be best if you joined me here. Not yet though. All is not ready. I am engaged, and I have to meet the lady's father. After I know all will be well, then I will summon you all. I have found a location for Clermont. The people already living there need some degree of protection, while there is plenty of room for all."
"That is good news, yuir grace. I shall pass it on. Is there anything ye need from us?"
"Yes Dougal, one thing. Edge has followed me here. He kidnapped me once, and has sent flunkies to try to kill me. I think it would be a good idea if something unpleasant happened to his employer. What do you think?"
"Yuir grace," Dougal replied with a grin, "I think that the Comte de Nice is living on borrowed time."

It had been a very busy evening, was what he thought to himself as he slipped under the covers with Sara. He had lied a little about how badly he was hurt. One of his ribs was probably cracked. It wasn't broken clean through though, and it would heal. He didn't want to worry anyone, or to make Sid feel guilty. The spear wasn't what had actually hurt him. The real injuries had been done by the impact with the wall,
and the massive electric shock. The worst of both was over.
He had watched while Daelin fought with Seamus, rather disappointed in what happened. He hoped that none of it was his fault. He hadn't wanted Daelin to worry about him, indeed, he had gone out of his way to seem healthier than he was. It was only now that the last effects of the shock was finally wearing off. Still, it was a good thing to have an irresistable will. His body HAD to listen to him. And it had.
The second challenge had gone better. G'nort had fought back from an early deficit to tie the match. Then he had moved ahead and taken the ring from that prancing oaf, Lupton. The news of the ex-Baron's retirement was even better. Percival had not made comment. He refused to be dishonest, but at the same time he saw no reason to insult the man now that he was finally doing the right thing.
He dismissed all thoughts of Lunkhead from his mind. There would be another challenge before long. Adonai would face Gimmzak, and he would second Gimmzak. He would be in better shape by then, and would be able to give the Baron the support he needed and deserved. Hopefully, Adonai would be defeated. If not, well, the next cycle Adonai would face challenge. If he had any title at all, he would face challenge.
His thoughts turned to dinner with Daelin and Marit. Dae had been an excellent host, and he had enjoyed himself. Sara had appeared to do so as well. He was very glad that Dae had taken his loss so well. He and Marit seemed very happy. Hopefully they would be as happy as he and Sara already were. He would not rush her, but he would be very glad for the wedding day when it came.
His thoughts moved then to the Golden Ivy Tavern, and the bar there. That was not a story he was going to tell G'nort if he could help it. He chuckled to himself. No, not a story he planned to tell anyone unless something drastic made it necessary.
He looked to Sara before she fell asleep.
"Gorgeous, I love you."
"I love you too Whitey."
