...To RyhDin, in Search of The Lady

As Kandle emerged from the water she felt a great sense of relief. The Wizard had been correct. At least she thought he was. Suddenly she became nervous. Was she really still alive? As her eyes darted around the strange room she had found herself in, Kandle realized there were no mirrors. Becoming increasingly more nervous, she turned back toward the water she had just
came from. As her eyes met the water, she could see the glow of a flame reflecting off the water. She moved closer. Nearing the edge of the lake, Kandle could see the reflection of a rainbow colored drip candle in a golden candle stick holder floating freely above the lake.
"Thank the Lords! The Wizard had been Speaking the truth."
Her mission in this strange land was one of the utmost importance, and with that thought she moved back from the water. As she turned to leave the room, she sighted the sword on the far wall. Knowing that it looked exactly like the one she was to return to the Lady Sarana, she sighed softly and drifted to the next floor of the castle.
Even though Llenlleawc had told her that the people of this land would be far more accepting of her then those of her native Camelot, Kandle decided to quietly observe for a while before attempting to speak to anyone.
Making her way from the Lakeroom to the main entrance way without being noticed was not as easy as she thought it would be. Even though it was only a short distance, there were many servants about the castle and Kandle had found herself in the middle of them. Hearing a group of them coming her way, she quickly lowered herself onto a table under a mirror in the main foray.
As the Servants passed her, one asked..
" When did we get that candle?"
The others all shrugged and went about their own business. This exchange had alarmed Kandle a bit, but she calmed herself and decided that this would make a fine place to stay for a while. After all, if Lady Sarana was still living here she would have to pass by here at some point. But then What if she was not living here?

More than a day had gone by, before Kandle realized that she was waiting for the appearance of a woman whom she had never seen. All she had was a simple description of a lady with long brown hair, almond-shaped eyes and pointed ears. Llenlleawc had explained that Elves, beings that Kandle had never seen, had pointed ears. When she had difficulty believing this, Llenlleawc told her that not many had seen her, yet
she was real.
Kandle again became nervous. How would she find this woman? And what if she is not the only woman here that fits the description?

Having seen the same faces day in and day out, Kandle sat quietly lost in a daydream. Thoughts of her homeland and The Wizard, and her King and his Champion occupied her time. She Longed for times that had long gone by. Times when The King was ruling Camelot, with his Champion and The Wizard by his side.
Suddenly being pulled out of her daydream, Kandle realized she was moving. The startling part was that she was not moving of her own will. Someone had picked her up and was actually using her flame for light. This was something Kandle had not
experienced in quit some time. On her journey with Llenlleawc her purpose was one of companionship more then anything else. Her services as The King's light had been over for many moons & the Wizard did not seem to need her light in order to see in the dark.
Regaining her wits, Kandle realized that it was a young servant girl holding her. The girl appeared to be looking for something in a small closet under the stairs. When she was done, she carried Kandle into the kitchen. Placing her on a table near the entrance, the servant girl went about cleaning up.
Kandle had observed only a small group of servants. It had seemed that the rest had gone off to bed and this small group was cleaning up before heading to bed themselves.
Oh Dear! How am I going to get back to the foray without being noticed?

Kandle silently watched the servants cleaning. After a few moments she realized that there where many candles in this room and none of the servants seemed to be paying much attention to them. Perhaps she could slip out after all.
Kandle had made it back to her table without any problems, or so she thought. As the young servant girl was heading off to bed, she noticed that "the candle" had been moved back to the foray.
"Did any you move this candle?" she cried out to the others. The others simple
shrugged and continued with their tasks. The girl pondered for a moment, then picked up "the candle" to use as a light while walking to her room

While watchin this evening's challenge match, Sara's thoughts constantly turned to the events of one year ago. Thirty red roses, one for each day that he would be gone.
Llenlleawc was a knight of great honour. His word was worth more than the largest dragon's horde. Duty called and he needed to go away again. This time for longer that he had ever gone away before. He had placed a vase of red roses in the window of their bedroom. One rose for each day that he would be away, thirty in all. Sara was heartbroken that he had to leave, but she knew he would be back. After all he had given his word.
One month soon turned into two, then three, then four. Sara held on to hope that her knight was safe and that he would return to her. But that hope and faith was hard to hold onto. She spent many nights lost in the bottom of a whiskey bottle. The months continued to pass without word from Llen. Sara spent most of her days being drunk and her father was furious about it. Gauriel was convinced that Llen had abandoned his daughter, and he
was very vocal about it.
After months of argueing with her father, Sara finally moved out of Lakehome and into the cottage. Over the next few months, Sara cut back on her drinkin and met many men who seemed to have great interest in her. At last, Sara discovered that she was fallin in love with Whitey. She was thrilled when he proposed marriage. Llen having become just a vague memory to her.
Within days of the engagement, small things drew Sara's thoughts back to her days at Lakehome. First was dinner at Daelin's castle. The long hallway, elaborate furnishings, fancy wallhangings, the servants, all things that Sara had not seen the likes of since leaving Lakehome. A few days later, the second and most significant event occured. A pleasant conversation with an old friend. Sara told Aja of the impending marriage, which
quickly led to talk of times past. The conversation had struck a nerve with Sara. She had avoided people and the arena after that day.
This eve, however, she agree to watch the challenge match. She could have cared less about it, or about any that were in attendance. She was so wrapped up in her thoughts. Thoughts that she just couldnt understand. She scurried quickly out of the annex at the end of the challenge.
She walked aimlessly about town for many hours, when at last she found herself facing Lakehome. There it dawned on her, as she headed through the main door... Llen left one year ago, today.

Upon arriving in her room, the servant girl placed Kandle on an old bureau and sat on the edge of her bed. She had a feeling that there was something strange about this "candle." The servant suddenly noticed what looked like a face on "the candle." Then she realized that there was a small pouch tied to the handle of the candle holder.
The girl was reaching for the pouch when she heard a strange voice.
"Don't touch that....Please."
"Who said that?" She looked around the room, franticly searching for the person that the voice came from. Maybe I was just hearing things. There is no one else here. She reached again. And again, she heard the voice.
" Please, don't touch that."
This time, the girl had been looking directly at "the candle." "It couldn't be. Candles can't talk."
" I'm sorry. Don't be frightened"
" You..You...You talk?!"
" I didn't mean to frighten you. It's just that I couldn't let you take that pouch."
" Okay, I'm going nuts. Candles don't talk. They don't move and they don't talk."
"I am truly sorry for frightening you, but I am not an ordinary candle. I was sent by Sir Lancelot..."
"Who? Sir Lancelot? Isn't that Master Llenlleawc's real name? Oh, what am I doing? I'm talking to a candle. I must be losing my mind."
" You are not losing your mind. I know this is difficult to understand, but I must find Lady Sarana. It's very important. I have a message for her."
"Lady Sarana? Well you won't find her here. She hasn't been here in months. There I go again. I must be totally out of my mind"
" Oh No! That is not good. I must find her. Where is she? How can I find her? It is of the utmost importance. You must help me."
"Help you?! You're a candle!"
" I must find her. Please? At least tell me where to look. I can get there myself."
" So you move by youself? How is that possible?"
" The same way it is possible for me to speak. I told you, I am not an ordinary candle."

"Okay, okay. Let's say I'm not nuts, and you can talk. Why don't you want me to touch the pouch? What is so special about it? And what is your message for Lady Sarana?"
"The pouch is for the Lady and I cannot tell you what the message is. It is for Lady Sarana. She is the only one I will deliver it to"
"What if you can't find her?"
"Then I will have failed. I will return to my homeland, with the pouch and the message... in shame."
"Isn't that a little harsh? I mean RhyDin is a big place. You couldn't possibly search the entire land yourself? What am I doing!? I'm actually feeling sorry for a candle."
"There is no need to feel sorry for me. I have a mission and I will do whatever I have to do to finish it"
Having said that, Kandle began to levitate up off the bureau and toward the door.
"Wait! I can at least get you back to the door without notice."
"Thank you. That would be greatly appreciated."
The servant girl took hold of the candle's handle and headed for the stairs. As she walked, she thought about this strange occurrence. A talking candle. A levitating, talking candle. On a mission. A mission for a man that has been missing for a year now. A YEAR! My God, I hadn't realized how long it had been until now."
"Candle...or whatever you are called..."
" I am Kandle. My King gave me the name. I suppose he felt strange calling me candle once I was given life."
"Okay. Can Del..."
"No, no. You are trying to hard. Let it flow. Kandle."
"Kandle"
"Now you've got it."
"You said you are on a mission for Lancelot..."
"Sir Lancelot."
"Sir Lancelot. Is he the missing Llenlleawc?"
"Yes. I'm afraid he is."
"Afraid? Why? Has something happened to him? What is it? What has happened?"
Kandle did not respond, and the girl quickly realized why. There were two other servants coming toward them on the stairs. The girl was white as a sheet with fear for her employer. The other servants noticed the lack of color in her face and stopped to ask if she was all right.
"I'm fine, thank you. I think I just need to have something to eat."
As the others continued up the stairs, out to hearing range, the girl again questions Kandle...
"What has happened to Lord Llenlleawc? Where is he?"
"I am sorry. I have said to much."
"Please, tell me. I promise I wont tell anyone. I wont say a word."
"I cannot. I can only give the message to Lady Sarana. I gave my word."
Quietly, the girl continued down the stairs. She wondered: How are we going to find Lady Sarana. We! What am I doing. This is a candle and I am going nuts. But what if I am not going nuts? There are people that possess magic in RhyDin. And I have been told that it is in my family. What if this is real?
"Kandle."
"Yes?"
" I will try to help you."
"You will? Thank you, but how can you help? You said you have not seen the Lady in months."
" I did not say that. I said she had not been here in months. Sometimes, when I have to go to town for supplies, I see her. Or I hear mention of her. I believe she is still in Rhydin, somewhere. I will help you find her." Even if I am nuts, what harm could it do?
As they neared the foray they could hear the main door opening...
