The messanger was a young elf maiden... one of the priestesses from her mother's temple no doubt. She had been gracious in the delivery of what could only be described as bad news, and had left as soon as she was finished with her job. She had left Khrys alone with her thoughts, and her fears for her mother.
Her mother was ill and dying, but the means of her long death were strange. There were no details given. She had been toold only that the illness was of a majickal nature.... one which the healers of the Temple were unable to defeat.
She was being asked to return to Dal`Garyth Forest.
All the years of bitterness welled up within her breast and caught in her throat. She hadn't been good enough for these people.... these ~Elves~ .... when her mother had carried her unborn in the womb.... She hadn't even been allowed to return with her mother for the ceremonies when her grandfather had passed. Well, it certainly seemed that she was good enough now. Now that they had no high priestess, and no leader for their people either.
"Damn them!!" She threw the note to the floor, staring at it as it lay there.
Before she could change her mind, she packed her travel bags and changed from her dress to the clothing more preferred by her elfin kin.... soft leather boots over leather leggins dyed to match the colorings of the forest, a soft green tunic with her belted rapier at her hip. Chewing her lip in thought she considered whether to take her blow pipe and daggers as well. Deciding against the blow pipe, she strapped her bandolier containing her
throwing knives on. She would need them, she was certain.
Saddling Emperor, she went to find Zach and tell him what had happened... what was happening.... what may happen as well. He wouldn't be able to ride with her today, but he knew the way to Dal`Garyth. He would follow as soon as he was able................
Going Home... (Khrys)

Khrys was exhausted. She hadn't slept well in the nearly three weeks since her arrival in Dal`Garyth. Her mother's condition hadn't changed, and nothing that she did seemed to either help or hurt her mother's condition. It was more than frustrating to her. It was frightening as well. She had always been favored of the Goddess Kaewynn, the Elfin Mother, but her prayers went unanswered this time. Kaewynn was deaf to her.
She sat at her mother's desk for the millionth time, seeking an answer to this riddle. That this was no ordinary illness was obvious. It resisted all natural forms of healing art, as well as the unique gift of healing that Khrys held as well. She couldn't even feel her mother's presence when she tried to work her healing art on her still and silent form. She put her head down on her arms.... Just a short rest would be so welcome......
As she dozed in the warmth of her mother's study her arm brushed against a ebony scrying bowl that was sitting towards the back of the desk..... and she dreamed.....
