Results of the Eighth Ring Challenge
From: rdiscad@aol.com (RDI Scad)
Date: 11 Oct 1998 21:58:12 EDT
Lords and Ladies of the Duel of Swords,
I, Turienal Lodrelhai Castle, witnessed and called the challenge of Warlord Jake to Baron Jeffery Oakenshield for the right to wear the 8th Baron's Ring. The match was fought with honor (and humor, with Jeff how could it be otherwise?) on both parts. At the end of 10 rounds, Baron Jeff did retain his title with a victory of 5 - 1.
So witnessed,

Tacks up a note.
Baron Oakenshield
A wondrous exhibition of the proper way to wield that battle axe, well won indeed.
Jake, well tried.
Jona.
Al and Hubie grin impishly as they set up a kiosk offering commemorative banners and *Jeffy wins his Twentieth* pennants at a copper a piece.

::Smiles, seeing another challenge result.::
Baron Oakenshield...
Congratulations on another fine defense... you're a long way behind AJay's record, but you might catch up... Of course, to do that, AJay would have to loose, and I don't think either of us want that, do we?
Wear it well, my friend... as you always have.

::grins reading Drakey pooh's reply::
AJay's a great guy, but anytime he wants ta lose and let me take over as senior baron, I will most graciously accept ::chuckles to himself as he writes::
But dere's no doubt AJay is da man right now, he's had one hell of a reign, hopefully he will see his 2nd anniversery with his ring. I'm lookin' forward ta seein' me first.

Having had another long day at the farmhouse.......'aving to be with a Belgium Steed which had unfortunately given birth to a second stillborn in as many years, finds himself looking for the results of the challenge to Baron Jeff for the 8th ring, instead o' being there to watch firsthand.
::shouts:: Yes!!! Another excellent display o' skill in defending that ring.
::reads a missive from another and is humbled by the kind things spoken::
::chuckles then writes::
Baron Jeff,
These words 'ave been spoken time n' time again, yet the meaning has not diminished from the first time spoken..... "I congratulate you on yet another fine display o' skill w' the battle-axe". You are a great duelist and 'ave put me in awe of your skills. I am truly honored to be serving on the Council of Barons w' the Baron o' the 8th, whom I 'ave the utmost respect for. You 'ave accomplished so much, things that many can only dream of,
yet ye continue to raise the standard of excellence which others will be compared to. You will suredly be spoken of by generations to come as Legendary and rightfully so. I am honored and most humbled to 'ave had the privalege of seving alongside of ye these many months and look forward to seeing your continued reign as the bearer o' the 8th.
Skill and Honor as always M'lord,
Baron AJay Bird
Defender o' the Second
Loyal Baron to Dalamar

Jeffries,
Sorry I couldn't make the show. A dwarven map-maker no doubt gave me the directions, but at any rate, grand duel!
Jake,
Tested the waters of a challenge match with your first ten peer wins. Not an extremely bad debut. Lesson learned I would say.
Again, good dueling both of you!
Good fortunes,

Gimmzak,
Nahhhh. Two dwarves with rings do not a conspiracy make. I believe that the number quoted by the alarmist in making wild eyed accusations is three or four. Come to think of it, that is how many rings we have in HDT now. Four. Interesting. Makes you wonder what people are going to say, don't it?

Percy,
Ain't 4 dwarves in da realm since ole Thor and Kart left us. So bein' as me and Gimmy are two of a kind and both of us have rings, i'd say it aptly qualifies as a conspiracy.
Next time one of us is duelin' a challenge match on da battlefield and a stray warhammer slams inta da opponent, you'll have ta stop and wonder "who was da second hammer hurler on da grassy knoll"
::snickers::

I'm a dwarf too! Damnyangye, dpn't ye'n be knowing a dwarf iff'n ye see one? What? Did ye all forget about me when I left? Huh? ::Puts his stubby hands on his waist:: And don't ye be thinking I'm a'not going to be getting me own Ring from one of ye giants. Two and a half for Three is better than two for three. There gotta be another half dwarf in this place somewhere...
