The task had to be done. A shirt was clasped tightly within her shaking hands. Caressing the shirt to her cheek, his scent still lingered after all this time. She had to face the fact that Michael was gone, taken from her when their life together had just begun. He had always been there for her, ready with a word of encouragement, direction when she was
lost, and a heart filled with a love that made her complete.
It seemed so long ago that they met. She had wandered into the Arena and he took her under his wing, teaching her the art of dueling. From that moment on you didn't see one without the other, their friendship nurturing a deep love shared by both. They shared many interests and an ease with one another that only comes but once in a lifetime.
A tear trails down her cheek as she pages through an unfinished book, her last thoughts of him settled in his favorite chair quietly reading to her. "Oh Michael, why did ya nae tell me what lay before ya?" her voice quivering. He knew she would have done whatever she could to help him, but it was too late. An important part of her was gone, and she had to continue her life without him.
Closing the trunk her hand lingered upon the lid, images of Michael and the years of memories they shared raced through her mind. "With all that I am Michael..." uttered softly from almost quivering lips as she rose to draw the trunk to safe keeping. Closing the attic door behind her, she glanced to the painful emptiness of the cottage. Needing some time away from the memories she tugged on her boots, slung Melan over her shoulder, and headed to the
arena.... and to friends.
