Jeff,

Thank you for information on precedent for seconds.

You say that you believe sending the matter to the council is too much of an unknown? You do point out that the decisions made in past were regarding Barons, but I must admit that your statement causes a bit of confusion to me. It's my feeling that somewhere along the line that there is mistrust.

In denying the request to rescind, Helix has upheld the rules. Why do I feel this? Had anyone else challenged this would have gone to the council. I recall not the name of the challenger at this time, but it was made to Roland Sal Roa. There was a misunderstanding over the time of the challenge. The challenger showed up exactly one hour late and the matter had been turned over to the Baron's Council, decided by the officials available at the time
(after a 40 minute wait) including myself. As I recall he was stripped of his right to challenge for the cycle.

Well as Huma has changed his mind I am guessing my last post is somewhat without merit.
But I will hold to the second statement anyway.

Brian,

You and I are often in disagreement on many issues, this however is not one.

You have stated with great patience and calm all that I feel within myself.

My Dear Colleen.

Madam refers to a female keeper of a brothel, Madame is a most courteous form of address for a married woman.

Others were lead to believe my darling husband was dead, I, alone, knew he was not.

Thou, Colleen, stood against Seraph upon the mere suspicion that it was he who slew thine paramour, Draven.

<<I still do not see a need for them to have done this for two reasons, a forfeiture was declared by the officials present and in accordance with the rules. Does that mean Dal automatically loses his crown? NO, it means the Baron's Council will decide the issue. Second, with the majority of Barons on the council aligned as Loyal, why is there a need to silently question their loyalty by trying to take that decision out of their hands?

I'm curious, G. as a Loyal Baron and member of the Baron's Council how do you feel about someone attempting to bypass the system and not allow a fair vote to take place?>>

Collie,

I too, saw no real reason for this to be done. But when they decided to go through with it, I felt that it was a set situation that was seperate from the Overlords Challenge. I still knew that the results would be sent to the Barons Council.

As for them both byassing the system, though they should have let it go and let the Council have their ruling, and as Jeff is a Member and should have let well enough alone, a Duel of Honor such as was done last night was also mildly acceptable. I'm not saying that everyone who missed a challenge should go and make deals with other duelers and wager their rights and rings on the outcome, as that could lead to an abuse in future challenges, but
they made a decision. I would just have to hope that noone does something similar again, and trust in the ruling council to make a fair decision on the matter.

To all in ta DoS,

Collie I be shocked by ya venomous words on ta actions of me Jeff. Ya were nae there, and though ta passion and love for ta sport be evident in ya words here, ya be sadly mistaken about what transpired.

I be there, and I tell ya that after ta shocked realization that ta Over Lord was no where ta be found, there be utter chaos. It be a moment of confusion and shock, for those that know Dal well - even those that nae be of a fine frame of a mind to him - know that ta Dal would ever willfully miss such a meeting of blades.

Now Collie luv, ta Huma be faced with a choice. He could chose ta move ta match ta another time, after which ta Dal be found; if he could be found. Or he could chose ta push for ta forfeit. As ya well know, he chose ta latter; an act that gave him a chance of snatching ta crown without ever unsheathing a blade.

For this, me Jeff called him a coward. For this ta Huma mocked me Jeff with ta offer ta meet me Jeff in ta ring. If me Jeff win, he would give up his challenge. If Huma win, then me Jeff give up ta 8th ring shy of his one year anniversary. I tell ya Collie now, as ta Jona and ta Kala and so many others there, me Jeff did nae hesitate. For a moment it be like ta fables of yore, all set in one match of steel and wills.

Collie, if ya had been there, ya would have tasted ta air and known that honor was alive and beating in ta heart of ta DoS. Two men matched step for step; both laying something dear and precious out for their beliefs. In ta end me Jeff won, and that speaks unto itself.

So Collie luv, and ta others that be grumbling and moaning about ta rules. Well, no rule was broken. Indeed, ta Dal will stand and have ta answer for his absence. But ta Huma, if he be a man of he word, will not chose to press when all is done.

Mayhaps he is yet a man of his word, and ta ill thought reversal of his intent but a whiff of ta emotions that he still is bringing back inta control. I pray he reconsider, for his blustering here steals a bit from a magic moment for all that witnessed and for those that will retell ta tale ta young ones when they first come ta join us in ta DoS.

So leave me Jeff be, for if ta Match be different, ya all know that at this moment he would nae be Baron Jeffery Oakenshield, he would be War Lord. For me Jeff be many, many things: Most all he be a man of honor.

Jona,

Although your definitions are likely correct. I still prefer to not be addressed as such, I am not French. Last I checked Jaycy was unmarried, but you refer to her as Madame. Dame Casyria to my knowledge is unmarried and you referred to her as such.

If Gav had been dead as we were lead to believe would you love him any less?

As to the term Paramour.. it means illicit lover. Yes, Draven and I were lovers, but who is anyone to judge what is not permitted in my life. Illicit by definition means not permitted or unlawful. I was not married to anyone during that time. As I recall, you kept his company briefly during Gav's disappearance, but I have not questioned its content.

Summer,

I did apologize to your husband and publically wrote it for all to see regarding my misunderstanding of who challenged who and why.

However, I must be blunt.. both of them, Jeff and Huma, should never even considered this duel after a decision was made by the officials present. It is my understanding, reguardless of the circumstances (i.e. Huma's scheduling and the bickering), that Helix ruled this a forfeit and after she left the arena, her word and judgement UNQUESTIONED by any that then these
events transpired.. It shows a great lack of respect on both of their parts to try overrule her decision when she was called from her home to make the judgement.

She decided based on the rules that govern this sport. Quite pointedly.. by doing this after Helix, the supervisor of the Duel of Swords, passed judgement to send this to the Baron's council, shows a great lack of respect to not only to the lady, herself, but her position in this community and what it is supposed to mean.

Jeff stated himself that he wanted to ensure Dal keeping the crown. He is a Baron, and should the example of upholding the rules.

I see exactly now, exactly how much respect people have for these rules when they are leaning away from their favor.

I have called Jeffrey Oakenshield many things, Summer, but coward had never been one. It takes more strength of character to walk away from the goading and stand for the principles that one supposedly represents. The principles in this case being the rules of the Duel of Swords which specifically state that the Duel of Swords supervisor has final say in things not mentioned in the rules.

Am I to understand by those actions that no matter how moot the point now, that a Baron of such tenure, doesn't adhere to a final decision of Lady Helix Girvin in her official capacity?

If I am to understand events correctly, Collie, Jeff was not the only combatant in the duel. I believe he had an opponent who agreed to the duel.

Please don't put all of the blame on one individual, when two were involved.

Rix,

Read further.. you will see when I learned more that I corrected myself. By the way, "I believe he had an opponent who agreed to the duel. " I thought it was Jeff that agreed?

To all,

Pointedly.. the ruling was made based on the rules.. and just as Dal exercised his RIGHT under the rules to change Evan's alignment. Huma chose under the rules to send the matter to the council.. his RIGHT under the rules.

As I said.. when the rules are not in ones favor often they are not liked.

I ask just one of you to show me where Huma was dishonorable in his decision to refer the matter to the Baron's Council? He was within his rights and the rules of this sport.

When voices were raised to question Dal's right to realign we were basically told, "Tough, it's his right, deal." The rules are the proverbial double edge sword.. I suggest in future that we are more careful in how we wield those that apply to us personally lest the sword get a return strike.

Collie,

Ya simply have no understandin' of what went on October 14th, nor any idea of what it means ta be friend and loyalist ta Dalamar. So if yer done saying "everyone follow da rules" fer da 100th time, maybe ya will try and recognize more went on dan what is simply covered by da rules of DoS.

As fer Helix's decision, she's coordinator, not god. She didn't entertain any discussion on it, she ruled and left, period.

Collie, luv -

Who says they were nae following ta rules?

Ta day I can nae make a private challenge regarding me honor without having some official tell me what I can and can nae duel on, is ta day I quit ta sport.

Collie, do nae read more inta Helix decision than she does. For crying out loud woman, if me Jeff lost and me Jeff abandoned his ring - could ta Helix declare that void and force it back on his hand? If ta Huma decides ta nae press ta challenge, can ta Helix force him to? OF COURSE NOT, and I doubt she want ta step inta ta mud of trying to start making decisions about every single duel in the DoS.

Now it be logic that ta Huma can nae rescind his challenge AFTER ta declaration of forfeit. That be logic, not some high and mighty ruling. But to declare that two duelists do nae have the right to put on ta line all they hold dear in ta name of principle and honor unless ta Helix say it okies be plain silliness.

This duel was nae about ta passing of crowns and capturing of Baron's ring. It be about what each man willing to walk away from in ta name of his beliefs. It be ta truest since of ta spirit of ta DoS.

Enlighten me, Jeff.. and since several people have stated you leveled insults at Huma.. then I await your word.

Why should Helix have to entertain discussion? Are you saying her decisions mean nothing? Because if not.. then maybe it's time for everyone to reconsider their participation in this sport.

Show me where Jeff and Huma had the right to overturn Helix's decision to send it to the Baron's Council and I will concede..

As to a duel of honor.. duels of honor should be a personal matter and not dependant on the sport.

I hear this tale from that one and another from this one.. I heard tales that upon a legal decision Huma was insulted.

I still have to wonder.. 7/10ths majority loyal and there are doubts as to the outcome.. curiouser and curiouser.

Last I heard his request to recind was denied.

>First off it has already been ruled, by Helix, dat a second cannot duel in place of da challenged unless da challenged was present fer round 1 and drawn away by some unforseen circumstance.<

> Ya simply have no understandin' of what went on October 14th, nor any idea of what it means ta be friend and loyalist ta Dalamar. So if yer done saying "everyone follow da rules" fer da 100th time, maybe ya will try and recognize more went on dan what is simply covered by da rules of DoS.<

As I stated in a letter to the council, if Jeff lost the match, but chose not to retire the ring, would DoS have the right to take it away? No.
Helix does have limits as a coordinator, thus her decisions should be respected, when she has to make them.
The above two quotes were from Baron Oakenshield, which I ask be clarified, since the two statements disagree. In statement 1, it is Helix's ruling he goes by, but in statement 2, he seems to sound like it's wrong to follow the rules.
Those are my opinions, and how I see all of this being said. If the baron's council made a decision to have Dal forfeit the crown, yet Dal continued to try to take on responsibilities as overlord, I don't think the council would be happy.
