Results of the Challenge for the Thirteenth Baronial Ring

This night, October 16th, I did witness and officiate the match between the Warlord Jesse Troyan and the Baron Magnus Eques for the right to hold the Thirteenth Baronial Ring.

The Warlord dueled this night for himself, having neither a Lady of Honor or dueling under any colors. He dueled with his fists, and Nick O'Doyle stood in his corner, as his second.

The Baron dueled for the honor of his deceased mother, who watches over him to this day. Fighting under the colors of Polaris, black with a red star in the middle, Magnus wielded two weapons... the hatchet that lies at his side, "Drachen's Hatchet," and his sword, "Dual Blade." His second for the event was the White Duke, Percival Marchand de Clermont.

The match did proceed thus:

Round One:
Waiting for an attack, both Jesse and Magnus watch each other warily... And at Jesse's movement, Magnus moves into an opening stop hit, only to see Jesse has done nothing but fancy block low. No points!

Round Two:
Where Jesse and Magnus were cautious before, now they are not... Moving to meet the other swiftly, they both strike out, hoping to score. And score they both do, thrusting hard for shared points!
( TH/TH ) 1-1

Round Three:
Not wasting any time to recover from the last round, the two men back up, then move toward one another once more... Keeping the action heavy, Magnus strikes a blow upon Jesse's shoulder, only to receive retribution as Jesse strikes low!
( HC/LC ) 2-2

Round Four:
The score is tied... both men must be in pain from the earlier strikes... who will give first? Jesse, spying a motion by Magnus, brings out a wonderful low parry... only to have the Baron duck under it and strike out for a full point!
( FDU/FCP ) 3-2 Magnus

Round Five:
Painfully, flesh meets steel as both men move in, on the attack... However, the dual low cuts do nothing to add to the score of either, and send us on our way to the next round.
( LC/LC ) 3-2 Magnus

Round Six:
There is a time and a place for everything, and in challenges, even more so... However, Jesse's timing of that fancy duck places him perfectly to become the recipient of pain from the Baron's thrust!
( TH/FDU ) 4-2 Magnus

Round Seven:
After pressing the attack so long, the Baron seems to think defense is the wisest choice... And perhaps it is, and so Jesse believes as well, as they both block low, and in style, neither gaining a point.
( FCP/FCP ) 4-2 Magnus

Round Eight:
Jesse knows he cannot make a mistake... and Magnus knows all he needs to do is strike once more... So who will be the first? In this... ( At this point, my calling robot broke, but I did look to the ring in time to watch Jesse jab over Magnus' attempt at a low cut. )
( LC/TH ) 4-3 Magnus

Round Nine:
(At this point, while I was trying to figure out what to do about the robot, I missed the round... but I was told afterwards both the Warlord and Baron ducked, but I missed the Baron's great flourish. )
( FDU/DU ) 4-3 Magnus

Round Ten:
( By now Daelin had been kind enough to summon some imps, so the challenge calls might be finished. ) This is it! The Warlord moves in for the low strike, but finds a thrust to the chest that seals his fate in this challenge!
( TH/LC ) 5-3 Magnus

This night Magnus Eques did successfully defend his right to hold the Thirteenth Baronial Ring, defeating the challenger Jesse Troyan with a score of 5-3 in 10 rounds.

As one who was there, and witnessed the duel I have only this to say:

Magnus,

You have proved again that you are worthy of the 13th ring. You have also made a little bit of history. You are not only the first person to defend it, but the first to defend it twice. You are going quite aways to proving that the 13th is not cursed. So far it has only been unlucky for your challengers. Keep up the good work!

Jesse,

I won't pretend I like you, or even that I respect you. You didn't deserve a shot, let alone a ring. Still, you put up a good fight. Better luck next time.
