Meanwhile, outside the Inn...

"Forfeit! Forfeit!"

The angry group of commoner duelists that gathered outside of the Inn shouted with booming repetition, "Foreit, Forfeit!"

In the front of the mob was a lanky red haired man carrying a sign that read:
"The Barons Council
is a
Kangaroo Court"

Just a few feet from him, another man held a sign that said:
"Dragonbane witchhunt
bails out coward
Overlord"

Those trying to enter the Red Dragon Inn paused to see what the picket line was all about.

"Eh, yew thar", the man with red hair said, "ya go inta the Inn, ya support a crock o' dung, ya do", Pady O'Duel blurted out as he waved his sign with an angry scowl. Hanging from his left hip was an ill kept short sword in a worn leather sheath.

The Inn goers shook their heads as they passed the angry mob. One was overheard to say, " Those Barons are a bunch of flaming hypocrites and rule breakers...such an embarassment to RhyDin, truely",
while another spoke softly,
"Aye, they misuse their position, and the Overlord as well, what a disgrace, using his fathers death, why he should resign if he had an ounce of dignity left."

Pady O'Duel never missed a beat as he continued with his protest, red hair flying around his boney shoulders,

"Forfeit! Forfeit!"

The old nag held her shawl gripped tightly at her chest with one grizzled hand,
her other arm held aloft a sign as she shuffled her feet behind the tall man with the
lanky red hair,

"Aye! Forfeit! Forfeit!"

There were so many in the Arena that thought they were better
than anyone else. The Baron's Council in her opinion, for the most part,
was the cream of that crop.

Her rheumy eyes followed the Inn patrons that approached the door.

"Foul! Foul I say!"

A filthy man in corse ragged clothes pushed his way through the gathered
crowd, proudly holding his own sign, the paint still wet. It read:

NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE

The angry mob of motley commoners, picket signs waving,
continued in their circle.

"Forfeit! Forfeit!"

Every mob needs a spokesperson and one is as good as another. Jebediah stood up on a box and straightened his meticulously kept cadet gray Army uniform. He slowly raised his gloved hands and began to speak, the southern drawl think but not indiscernible.

Good people, good people...

I know the pain you all feel. I heah you'ah cries. And I say to you, raise you'ah voices higha. Honor, that is what they speak of, honor. I ask you, my fellow commoners, has one Baron plowed one row with you, or ground with you at the miller's wheel? No, they have not. Known thugs and killers for hire tell you what honor is. How truly sad-ah that-ah they believe that we are not capable of holding Huma Dragonbane to scorn. They believe-ah that
we lack the ability to know what is and is not honorable-ah behavior. Ah, I tell ya, my family, look, ah, look, I say, how they view these sweet orphans that-ah play at your feet even now. Their punishment to "high and mighty" overlord? Well, they'll-ah make him finally give to these children. We are less than garbage to them! Something to only be used-ah for the purpose of soiling their own kind by giving of their precious money. Oh what a sad
day!! Oh they say that-ah the overlord can do what ever he chooses-ah as long as it-ah is called in the rules but-ah any other that challenges the overlord well he must not only adhere to the stated rules-ah, but what ever standard this unfair and biased committee may-ah wish to hang them by. Oh what a sad sad day, when the people-ah that keep this sport alive-ah, you and I, the common people, are counted as rubbish and treated as morally and
mentally inferior-ah. It's-ah time, I say, it's-ah high time, that this council stand-ah accountable to you and I. That we throw off the yoke of oppression and disdain and storm the walls of power and topple this empire by any means necessary!

A cheer erupts and the crowd begins chanting with renewed vigor as the officer stands down from the box and walks with the crowd. The shouts can be heard now, well beyond the nooks and crannies of RhyDin and carry out through the hills and dales.

"Forfeit! Forfeit! For FEIT!! FOOR FEIIIT!!!"

Each new voice growing the swelling chant.

Whilst hopping around Rhydin he hears the cry "Forfeit! Forfeit! For FEIT!! FOOR FEIIIT!!!" ringing out.

The goblin giggles and joins in the fun, "FOUR FEET! FOUR FEET! FOUR FEET!" He's not sure why having four feet is a good thing, except maybe that it allows ya' to wear more shoes which is after all a fun pasttime, but it did sound like lots of fun.

"FOUR FEET! FOUR FEET! FOUR FEET!" he squeaked as he hopped around, spreading the word to all his goblin kin. "FOUR FEET! FOUR FEET! MORE SHOES FOR EVERYONE! FOUR FEET! FOUR FEET! AND BRIGHTLY COLORED SOCKS AND STOCKINGS! MORE FEET! FOUR FEET!"

Cletus walks past the little goblin on his way out of the Arena and can't help but to bust up laughing.

"I wish I had four feet sometimes...even though I trip over these two so much anyway, it would probably just be a hassle"

"<q> Hope you have umbrellas..."

Pady spins around to hear the dragonlord. Looking upward to the dark sky, than back to the god-wannabe, he shouts boldly,
"Eh, ye bastard, tryin' ta use tha' hot air o' yours ta bugger up some foul weather?"

Waving his sign at Adonai, he yells,
"If ah had a umbreller, I'd be shovin' it up yer", the sudden chants of the growing mob drowns out Pady's last word.

"Forfeit! Forfeit!"

Having heard Jake's outburst directed at the man with the lanky red hair,
the hag creams him squarely on the noggin with her picket sign,
showing she is nothing less than a feisty old broad.

"'tween the O'erlord, Huma and the Barons ye say? Bah!!"

Her rheumy eyes blazed with agitation.

"Unless there be only 16 names on fine Goldendust's stat sheets
there be more than 16 people entitled to an opinion"

The old woman sneezed and wiped her nose on her shawl
before giving the man one more whack with the sign just
for good measure.

The crowd continued with their right to protest.

"Forfeit! Forfeit!"

"Gah, woman! there ya go! mash the bugger.", Pady's laugh carried over the crowds chanting as he witnessed the old lady take a swipe at Jake.

The weather held as a crisp fall wind carried the rain clouds away with barely a drop.

The crowd grew, with more diversity, no longer just a rag tag group of commoners.

Pady stood proud and tall.

"Forfeit, aye"

[Jaem walked down the road from his home by the outskirts of the town to the arena, in the pouring rain. He noticed a large mob of protesters yelling something.
"Pardon me", he said to a burly man in peasants' garb. "What's going on?"
The man turned around partially, and called over his shoulder. "That overlord is at it again, trying to bend the rules, to fit his own agend-uh. And the barons just sit by and let him do it. They scratch each other's backs, that's what. And we've had enough of it. The people of Rhydin are standing up. Things will change."
"Because his father died, he loses his title? What sort of logic is that?", Jaem said, half to himself.
The man ignored him, and continued chanting, "Commoner rights! Down with Overlord!"
Jaem stepped back from the man. He tried pushing his way through the swelling masses to the entrance, but saw no way of getting through. Finally, he went to the back of the building, and saw an open second floor window.
"That could work", he muttered, as he cautiously scaled the wet bricks.]

Drakewyn entered the Arena in her usual manner, avoiding the outdoors even more than usual because she had just purchase her new blouse and bodice and the unanticipated rainstorm was -not- something she wished to be caught in.
Then she heard the chanting... "forfeit... forfeit."
She noticed Adonai, looking out the window, his smirk firmly in place. She also noticed the trouble some duelers were having getting into the building. "Joyous music." she muttered, making her way up the stairs from the Arena.
After casting a small spell to amplify her voice, to be heard over the crowd, she through open the door and called upon her healing magicks... just in case someone decided to start throwing rocks.
Her hands glowing a bright gold, she lifted them into the air. "People! People! Many of you know me, I am sure. I ask your patience, please!" She gestured past the majority of the crowd, to a group of duelers looking for a way into the Arena. "How is it right to block these doors and keep the duels from being held? How does that further any goal, but to anger those who would ordinarily hold no opinion in this?" She lowered her hands,
folding them infront of her... the golden glow muting a bit. "Please... you have every right to protest... to have your voice heard... But these doors are open to all, and should always be open... not blocked by blind hatred."
She stood in the doorway, the rising wind whipping her long black hair... the silver streak glittering in response to a distant lightning strike... waiting for what comes next...

Taking the lull in the crowd's chant as a good sign, Drakewyn lets go of the magick in her hands, folding them over her abdomen. "As long as there are duelers, the Duel of Swords will go on. There is no tragidy, no action or event that will do more harm to the sport than to prevent the -duelers- from entering here."
She takes a calming breath and continues. "I am new here... When I first arrived, Athlstan was the Overlord, and there were those who spoke out against him as well. There are tales of events in the past that shook the sport... deaths and leave-takings and words shouted back and forth... and yet, the sport still survives."
"In the end... there is no one and nothing -in- this sport that is greater than the Duel of Swords as a whole... and even this controversy shall pass, in time as all things do." Smiling warmly, she brings her speech to a close. "So please... fear not to speak your mind, but do not enforce your will upon others."
