Ta Purpose of the Council

To ta DoS, as I hae no right ta vote,

Frankly, I be disturbed. What be ta point of ta Council?

As I see it, ta Helix be fine ta interpret ta rules as they come by, as is all ta officials of ta DoS. It be their job.

But ta council be a sitting of peers. Their purpose is to look beyond ta rules and to ta intent. So I ask ya, if ya all be here ta just spout ta rules and just say "To bad." Then why ya voting at all? Ya next vote to be ta disband ta Baron's council and say that ta Helix be doing a fine job and if ta next coordinator be no good, then ya all convene.

Now I beg ya all ta think. What be ta purpose of dueling? If a man can walk into a ring swearing to nae pursue a challenge of his Over Lord if he loses, then walk away and smirk, "Just kidding." then what be ta reason ya reviewing this at all?

And so it sits before ya all. An Overlord who has nae missed a challenge in over a year, who tells you that his father died and he made a choice of the heart. And a Challenger who tried to take out a Baron of ta DoS, a sure vote that ta Over Lord be allowed to reschedule. And when ta Challenger lost just spit on ta Baron and said in essence, "Just Kidding." What happens now?

I say ta purpose of your vote is ta say it does matter. And I would dare ta say that ta Helix referring it to ya be saying the same thing.

Summer,

Though it may seem on the otherwise when couched by the prejudices of others...

The council should consider and vote on Dalamar's fate you are absolutely correct. Where my concern lay was that they were regarding an agreement mad solely between your husband and the warlord in question. If the council were to make a vote on, as Baron AJ so aptly puts the term, a gentleman's agreement then they have stepped beyond the matter given to them.

I would not see Dalamar stripped of his crown outright for attending to family matter regarding the death of his father any sooner than I would have him stripped out right for being taken hostage. The council was called to rule on the forfeiture and therein should their ruling end and begin. This is fair and just, to the sport and the Overlord. Forcing Huma to "live up to" a personal agreement that has no basis anywhere in the rules is a different
matter altogether. Then the council becomes a moral task force and not a body of law and fairness.

This was and is my point now made eloquently by two barons. Huma has prove himself an oath breaker and the community at large knows it now. Unlike some have said, I do not defend his actions. I abhor him for not keeping his word, but it is not my place to force him to do so. I can only mark it in my mind never to enter a gentleman's agreement with the man.

Justice is blind, but human nature is not. Justice is made only of black and whites, but we are of softer and nobler stuff. Dalamar suffered a terrible loss, but justice sees no corner for excuses. I do. There is a difference and when the rules congress convened under Kalamere's direction they saw that the rules lacked basic human compassion, and set up the council to allow for such unforeseeable incidences. I cannot stand by when a man is
accused and convicted on a rule that does not exist. That was the nature of my plea, Summer, that we all be allowed to know the standard that we might be judged by should a matter we are involved in be taken before the council. I believe that it is fair and just that a man be able to read the rule he has broken. Would you disagree?

Constant,

~Brian Girvin

Brian,

Nae ya be right on that, it would seem ta be ta way. But certain rules mayhaps do nae need ta exist. Like swearing on ya honor ta do something then just spitting. Or mayhaps skinning a child alive in a ring, there be no rule about it, but is it right ta stand by and just shake your head?

Brian, I do nae pretend ta be one who can answer these questions. I am nae that smart. But for ta last few days I be witness to some of ta sweetest worded dances of logic, and some of ta silliest. Ta result is that I hae a chance ta take a look at ta world upside down and inside out.

Do I have an answer yet? nae - but ta search for one be half ta pleasure.

Be Well
