::rises a little earlier than usual to have time to view the boards before heading out to work... steps out of the Inn and smiles at the crisp clear autumn morn... walks over to the boards, and reads... then decides it is time to comment...::
I have only been in Rhydin for a short while (nae 3 cycles o' th moon yet), and most o' ye probably do not know me. I do not have the "rich memory" of the past era of DoS that many of ye carry. Even so, I recognize the changes taking place just in the past couple o' moon cycles. I have suffered through similar situations in other times and places.
Let us all grieve for the loss of those dear to our hearts. 'Tis also good to grieve for the "old ways", for these can be as dear to our hearts as people. Grieving is a natural, healing process... But it can be an illness also, if continued beyond normal bounds.
Let us cherish the past, but let us look to the future with a positive attitude. The Duels will nae live nor die on the memory of times past. The Duels are what ye makes of them now and in the future! Folks will always leave the sport, but new blood always stands ready to take the place of the old...
Let us relish those who have passed. Let us honor their memories. Let us learn from our mistakes. And let us pick up and move forward...

Although I have been in the Duel of Swords for almost 2 years now. Most people won't remember that, unless the remember the Omega one..::chuckles:: But althought the DoS has gotten worse, I don't think it's much different than the illusion some of us have of the *past* I've read and reread the histories of both the Rings and the Crown over and over and can rattle of ancient days of yore in the Arena until my jaw falls off. It wasn't the duelists who
made the DoS Evan, it was their firebrand spirits. Dishonor was common in the rings, as it is now, but it was overshadowed by the Honor of our predecessors. Some of the most honorable people have graced the crown, some still come around. Lady Redwin, Sir Gnimoi (who I just saw hours ago), The Cleric Athlstan whose spirit is said to watch over some of the 'interesting' battles of the DoS, Sir Gondar, Sir Monk...The list goes on and on. I've had the
privelege to see some of these people in action, and some of the ones not mentioned here..but to draw to a close, they didn't worry about what would happen in the DoS 5 years from then, they lived each day as they could. So I suggest we don't mope in the past, but remember it by Honoring it, after all without them we would not be here today. On that note we all should make sure that the DoS will be around 5 years and the years to come after we are
gone, be it for our children, grandchildren, or even someone we won't know who will enter our hallowed walls and say, 'I like the atmosphere of this place I think I'll be staying here for awhile.' Then they will appreciate our Honor and the cycle will continue for maybe 25 or 30 years.

While we are losing some dear friends, new ones walk through the door always. Wish our family well as they leave, and open your arms to the new members.
How else are we to expect anything to improve if we do not learn patience and benevolence?
Take my words to heart, as I mean no harm to anyone. I only wish to see things return to a calmer state of being.

Take yer foot out of yer mouth, lad. I'm leaving the office of queuekeeper ney the rings.
I will no' miss the chance to see my Rhi workin' toward her goal of bein' the youngest warlord in this sport in part encouraged by the example of perserverance from her godmother.
For those who do not know, a large part of my decision was due to my husband, Judas, being confined to a wheelchair and a new addition to our family coming in a week or so. Quite simply, my family needs me more than the DoS and they are first priority.

Now that I am a bit controlled, I shall state my points clearly. Well, try to anyway. Rix, Gim. Good damned points. But on the backfire of my post, it had a hidden meaning that only I knew. People are leaving cause of events, and such not. The people's names I listed, excluding Tay :) and Collie, were for past memory of what we should be setting *NOW*. Let me now go deeper on the subject of leaving. Huma leaves because the rules were
broken and someone patched things over somehow. Rules are rules. One. Next, Baph leaves cause he can't beat Lupton. Two. Rix wanted to leave when we had our challenge but then he wised up. I am glad he did. (Well, I don't think he is gone.) Three. Uz wants to leave for some reason but the reason is do to DoS. (Or so I heard him saying something about it) No need for me to ramble on. Now, just think if we focused our train of thoughts on having a good
time instead of this nonsense and maybe people would not think of DoS being so bad off.
All those names listed are what we fight for. Yet, it us that keep this sport alive. But it is what we want to be in the end. We want 'now' to be as good as it was 'then'. And we can still do that. We all just need to have fun like we used to and stop these little wars. Hell, I remember balls and dances that used to be thrown all the time. Parties as well ... ::still wondering where they all went:: All I
ask is, lets lose these dark ways and light the tunnels of DoS up with a bit of fun. ::grins writing this:: I bet even Jesse can get out on the dance floor and dance. When he is good and drunk. :) As some have stated, DoS is one. Many make up DoS, but we call it ours. Lets try to make the most of it for a change.
