Collie,
Nay m'lady, my son Arlingond has only attempted becoming a baron once, and that was in a grand match with the Baron AJay, which my son lost 5-3.

Lady Drakewyn,
Thou statest to wit: " Without the -direct- word of the Overlord, how can anyone -know- Dalamar had not changed his mind about testing Huma? Or, in another circumstance, that Dalamar would have Baron Oakenshield as his Champion? Just because it had happened before, may happen again, and Dalamar may even have told Baron Oakenshield at some point previously... these things do -not- tell the official that the Test should take place."
M'lady Drakewyn, I hold the above to be mere speculation, and ast such yuir naturally entitled ta' yuir opinion.
Ye continue, to wit: "Only by the Overlord informing the official -in person- can the test be given. This information given only in the interests of clearing up what may be a confusing issue. Personally, I remain Neutral on this subject.
Thank you for your time."
Wouldst be so kind ast to cite the rules 'o engagement whereby this ist stated?

Jona,
I find it confusing that you seem to wish to see the rules where it is required of what is written above, yet the fact that Huma's word of honor (the fact that "words of honor" or duels of honor, for that matter aren't held in the rules) is important. I think Drake is right on the mark.
I remember hearing a story that someone once said, prior to a match, that they would not use a fancy on a commoner. This person, who was losing, changed his mind, and used the fancy. Rules don't restrict people from breaking the word.
Yet, since when do you see during a challenge match, the official listens to the other people over the challenger/challenged? Do you want a bunch of people amidst the challenge match start saying for the challenger "His opponent hasn't showed up, therefore he's going to take a forfeit"?
I hope my statements end some discrepancies. I realize some people choose not to follow precedents, but there they are, written before you, if you do. I can't like the fact that the person broke his word of honor, when he said he wouldn't use a fancy, but is it anyone's true right to take away his right to use them in the future? Moreover, is it anyone's right to speak for another when someone does not show up to the challenge in the first
place? Yes, they have the right to, but will it suddenly be dissected with the rules? No.
Here's another little story.
There has been, and will be, only one challenge match where neither dueler scored five points. David Stronsider defeated Nova Grey Shadow 4.5-2.5, and a rules discussion LATER chose that matches must go up to five points. David still got the ring. Did the council jump in and say "No, we decide that challenges have to go to five points"?
I'm sure someone will argue, "But the official already ruled it to be a victory for David." This argument will ironically be stated by someone who felt this "honor duel" should have part in the ruling. Well, to answer them, face it, we've seen a few people who are quite capable of disregarding the rulings of the officials.
If people seriously want to be fair, they should refrain from changing official rules as soon as they see something happen they don't like. There are times you have to grit your teeth. Once that grimace passes, then it is fair to rectify that loophole.
If someone doesn't agree or understand what I'm saying, they have every right to write here as I do. I am sure there is nothing in the rules (ahem, yet) that give people the right to take away one's power of speech, because they don't like what they read or hear. Isn't it ironic?

::struggles with his better nature and then gives up::
Patrons,
What, may I ask, other than diverse moons that have passed, gives the commoner, Lady Nenshen-Starfare any true judgement upon law and action within this sport?
I personally would be far more inclined to listen to the words of the true contributors to our Arena, Xenograg, Elijah, Kalamere, and Bishop than I would be to listen to the ravings of the self absorbed...in the facing of Lady Nenshen-Starfare, Anon, Jesse or Daniel.
Personally, other than two occasions, one where I was a commoner and the Lady Nenshen Starfare defeated me, and another, not to soon after when I was a master at arms where I defeated her soundly, I cannot recall the Regent taking up a blade.
So what, praytell, makes her a wisened philosopher of our Arena? And if you cannot answer that...then what...pray tell, makes her anything less than the largest...and most devious political destroyer of our sport?
Respectfully,
~Adonai Uziel
~DragonLord of RhyDin
PS: Another opinion gentles....a response is not necessary....nor wanted. Its merely something to think over. And yes....its slightly inflammatory....but then...so is everything the anticedent has brought up....so cheers.

M'lord Var Medicci-Giovani,
Mayhap I canst clear thine confusion, m'lord. Lady Drakewyn's statement ast writ purports to be factual. I merely wish the lady to cite her reference since nae anna where in the rules 'o engagement ist such a clause ta be found.
With respect ta' the happenings thou hast related, tis if a duelist dost say he shall nae use his earned skills an thence dost proceed to do so, tis fer his opponent an mayhap those wh' witness the deed ta choose whether ta take said duelist ta task or, in future ta trust him at his word. If his opponent or those witnesses choose ta they may, in future, decline ta cross blades with th' culprit, neh?
I meself hae witnessed more th' one duelist take th' win when his opponent hast been involuntarily spirited away e'en though th' score wast nae in the winners' favor an e'en times when th' duel nae be bu' one or two or three rounds inta th' match. Tis an individual matter, though tis agin fer each wh' witness th' deed ta ponder whether tis an honourable course 'o action an' ta' agin decide whether ta cross blades with th' duelist, neh?
In th' matter 'o th' duel twixt th' Baron Nova Grey Shadow an' th' warlord, Dave Strosnider, tis th' match wast called by Daemon. Tis further th' rules 'o engagement, unchanged I might add since th' earliest days, do declare th' at th' end 'o fifteen rounds tis th' winner be he wh' be a full point ahead 'o his opponent. Tis me opinion th' Daemon, didst follow th' rule. Further, ha' neither duelist been in th' fore by a full point th'
duel wouldst ha' continued beyond the fifteenth round until such time ast one or t'other wast a full point ahead.
With respect ta' thine statement, "Did the council jump in and say 'No, we decide that challenges have to go to five points."?' " Ast a Baron, I mus' say I am a bit surprised ye nae know this, tis nae th' council wh' set th' rules 'o engagement an' in th' case 'o a disputed challenge tis fer th' combatants ta' request th' intervention 'o th' council an nae t'other way round. Ta' state that th' challenge match thee hast cited shall be th' only one
wh' shall be noted ast nae reaching five points ist either a gift 'o prescience 'pon thine part or misunderstandin' 'o th' rules 'o engagement.
Dost nae thine statement "Well, to answer then, face it, we've seen a few people who are quite capable of disregarding the rulings of officials.", become moot when one dost consider thine misstatement 'o th' rules, m'lord? I must say I am a bit taken aback that thee, a Baron, wouldna be aware 'o one 'o the basic rules 'o engagement. On another note, at th' time th' warlord, Dave Strosnider didst challenge th' Baron Nova Grey Shadow, t'was a bit 'o
controversy in that the Baron, Nova Grey Shadow wast apprised of the challenge by Lord Iain Tynsdale, nae having received formal notification in a timely manner from the warlord bu' found th' challenge tacked ta this verra corkboard. M'lord Kalamere ar'Din may recall th' matter.
I pose a question ta thee, M'lord, dost condone th' breaking 'o an oath with impunity? Prithee ist that the example thou wish to set afore thine fione bairns ast well ast th' community? Thou hast taken a renegade stance m'lord, ast be thine right, yet I canna bu' note thine stance seems ta hae been taken out 'o pique wi' th' council's ruling.
Hast forgotten th' Overlord couldna cast a ballot 'pon th' question; nor was th' Overlord responsible fer th' deeds 'o th' Oathbreaker nor for which matters didst come afore th' council. Didst thee nae take umbrage at suspected slights ta' thine honour an' in fact abstain from voting 'pon certain 'o th' matters facing thee an' thine peers, th' other barons? Tis a wee perplexing that thou who holds his honour so tightly wrapped about him would seem
ta' condone th' dishonourable deeds ye were seemin' aware 'o ast if they dinna matter a whit. Tis perplexing e'en more for thou dost sign thineself "Proud Husband and Father" yet ye cast aside thine loyalty for nae anna deed wh' canst be attributed ta' Lord Dalamar save th' he chose ta' see ta' th' last comforts 'o 'is dying father.
Cordially,
Jonalyn Nenshen Starfare.

Adonai,
<<What, may I ask, other than diverse moons that have passed, gives the commoner, Lady Nenshen-Starfare any true judgement upon law and action within this sport?>>
What, may I ask, other dan da fact ya have a hand and a pen handy, gives ya da right ta pass any judgement upon Lady Nenshen-Starfare? Jonalyn knows more of our sport and traditions dan most active duelers today, she is a vast source of information and enlightenment. Not ta mention bein' a human bein' gives her da right ta speak freely on any topic she so desires, DoS inclusive.
<<I cannot recall the Regent taking up a blade. So what, praytell, makes her a wisened philosopher of our Arena?>>
Okay, lemme understand dis, if ya don't duel ya don't understand da community? Adonai, perhaps ye still haven't realized Duel of Swords is more dan a bunch of people in a pit of sand holdin' weapons ta earn a bit of prestige (rank). People come ta da arena ta talk, share a drink; many of da activities ya proposed in yer "Come duelers" post. Funny, ya invite all of DoS ta do dat which ya condemn as unimportant in Jonalyn's case. I, myself, have
dueled Jonalyn on many occassions, mostly in da pretense it was just fer fun, neither of us having any great desire ta best da other fer braggin' rights. She does duel, but she does take pleasure in da many other forums DoS provides. And if anyone knows da history of DoS, I'd wager its Jona. If she makes an uninformed comment, or a statement ya nae like, tis yer right ta comment back and disagree. But Jonalyn has EVERY right ya have ta put pen
ta paper and make a postin' on our message boards.
<<Respectfully,
~Adonai Uziel>>
Yer not respectful, ya callin' Jonalyn self absorbed, mayhaps ya look in da mirror sometime. Was it Jonalyn dat challenged a friend ta take away his title outta boredom? Oh no wait, it was ya. Least when I flame someone I don't try and avoid gettin' shreaded myself by postin' "respectfully". Adonai yer da one who's self absorbed. Everythin' ya do is fer yerself here. Be it ta get more fame or glory, more records, more of da spotlight, or merely
ta satisfy yer own boredom. Learn some respect fer others, dan ya can post da word before yer name.
Bluntly,

Adonai,
<<What, may I ask, other than diverse moons that have passed, gives the commoner, Lady Nenshen-Starfare any true judgement upon law and action within this sport?>>

Adonai old friend,
May I say one thing on the matter?
The lady Jonalyn has witnessed the day in and day out of the DoS for longer than you or I have for certain. As to her right to question the actions and voice her opinion, I know you would ne'er deny her tha' right.
She has posed many sound questions on this matter and through the replies, the entire DoS has had the opportunity to learn the reasonings behind many matters before the community. She has taken me to task on this matter and thusly thr community has learned much about this ole Scot's reasoning. Were I to stand and make a foery speech regardin my reasons, twould fall on deaf ears . Di' ye ken? I respect this commonly ranked lady Adonai, for her heart
is tha' of a warrior.
She can question me on anna time she feels a need, as I stood before her in the annex some time back, ring in hand, and promisin m loyalty to the DoS. She is merely seein tha' my motives are thus.
Just my view of the situation, I hope ye dinna see it anna other way

Seamus and The Dwarf,
Needless to say, I grow tired of her opinions and rants. And like her I have every right to voice my thoughts here as well. So I did...end of story.
Lady Nenshen-Starfare mayhaps might be one of the more aged members of our community and be steeped in the tradition of the sport but I do not believe that I have seen her do anything but cast judgement on others and fan the fires of discord within the sport.
One would think that age would bring wisdom and tolerance to a person. And one would assert that should one be that wise, they would spend less time arguing with people venomously and reveling in the strife than they would in attempting to ease the strife within their community. And those that were that wise, tried....and guess what? They gave up and left.
I have yet to see a kind or helpful word from Lady Nenshen-Starfare to anyone in this thread of pulp weighing down the boards. And on top of that Jeff....I've yet to see anything productive from you either. You call me names, and scream your disgust at a valid opinion that I brought up. Doing little but insulting me for having an opinion....and let me tell you that was a *surprise*.
If the noble Lady Nenshen-Starfare is such boon to our community and the noble bearer of a long tradition of this sport, where does she get off playing *got you last* with everyone in the sport that disagrees with her? What is the contributation of her constant argument on various issues with people all over our community? Do these constant arguments she seems to revel in do anything for the community? Are issues settled in them? Or is it
merely to bolster her own self image of superiority?
I guess, of course that it is beyond the community to see this as what it is, me asking questions. Most are far to weighed down with their own sense of overweening pride to allow me to say anything without trying to prove how wrong Uziel is. Pretty typical of sheep to never be able to adapt to new situations.
And to answer a few of your questions Jeffery, yes....I did challenge the Overlord. And yes he was a friend of mine. So what? You know what? So did Nova Greyshadow and Rand alTan. And hrrrrrm, let me think....they were friends of his too. And I don't see you slow broiling them over a cook fire somewhere so please drop the dead notion. And yes I went renegade after being a loyal.....hrrrm let me think....gee ya know....I think plenty of
people have done it before. Hells.....looking at the more current actions of the loyals and their *If ya don't like it lump it.* attitude towards everyone and everything in the sport I'd say I wasn't an Oathbreaker or a turncoat......I'd say I was a visionary and FAR ahead of my own time.
You talk about respect and honor Jeff....and you walk around insulting half the community with your elitist attitude and your *I'm better than you and your dog* persona and you call me disrespectful? At least I take the time to be here for the sport itself and the people in it, to you their just people to kick around and abuse. I can count the people you give respect to on the fingers of both hands Jeff....so don't even ATTEMPT to lecture me
about respect.
And yeah, I've opened the Arena for unofficial duels nightly...why? Because I know people miss the duels and the companionship, and I wouldn't trade one good duel for this entire load of literary trash you people have been amusing yourselves with. And I want to at least be able to offer the duels to the community. I am more than aware the duels are more than just people in pits hitting each other with swords Jeff, so drop the elitist horse
manure and attempt to focus on the fact that I was asking questions. Not volunteering for an old school brow beating that you and people like you seem to so enjoy giving duelers that weren't around when the Baronies were created.
The constant arguments and bickering on these boards has angered me to the point of making a statement about it, so I did, plain and simple. And I asked a single valid question, of course not to politely, essentially since Lady Nenshen-Starfare never goes out of her way to be polite to anyone herself. And its not beyond me to do unto others as they have done to me.
So since everyone can just disrespect me and call me names and I'm supposed to just sit there and take it I offer you the same respect Dwarf. If you don't like what I say...tough....do something about it. I get tired of your yammering. You destroyed my friend Huma, you disrespect every new dueler to the duels, whether they are respectful themselves or not. And you justify it with your elitist *I've been here longer* attitude all the time
and it makes me sick. Your not half the man I used to know Dwarf.....your mean, vicious and cruel and I'm sad to have even called you a friend at anytime in my career.
And the funnier thing is you've been like this for years. All talk about honor and respect and all nothing when it comes to actions. You screamed like a fishwife about Huma's *lack of honor* and did everything in your power to destroy him for it, and thats not the only case. In the two years I have sat under this roof I have seen you go out of your way to disrespect the Arena and the duelers in it at any given opportunity and even before my
arrival here there are like stories from the past. So do not even TRY to assert your *honor* and *wisdom* in my face Dwarf....your not qualified.
Don't like it? Tough. You have anything further to say, send it via a messenger cause I'm done playing *got you last* on these boards. Place stinks of hatred enough already without me adding to the soup.

Seamus,
With all due respect, Jonalyn is entitled to her opinion, my friend, but she is not entitled to verbally thrash people like they were children over her knee. Pretty soon we won't know who she is addressing as they will all be called Oathbreaker.

Adonai, a broader reply for ye,
Long before Jonalyn discovered this overwhelming desire to post in the Duel of Swords, her destructive and manipulative nature could be found well and alive within the Inner Realms Nations.
Jonalyn Nenshen arrived in RhyDin without wealth or political sway. It is solely through feigned friendships, marriage, kidnapping, and child birth has she secured her indignant place as the evil she is today.
Her adopted, kidnapped, stolen, claimed, and birthed children are heirs to several Kingdoms within RhyDin and it is by "caring" for these poor babes, children, and adolescents that she has made herself a ruler of so many lands. By manupilating children and even not accepting the deaths of spouses, she has clenched hold her piece of RhyDin and through that same friendly guise of manipulation opts to play in the DoS politics away from her brandy and
chortling.
