Death of a Warlord
From: nickodoyle@aol.com (NickODoyle)

::::Nick shuffles into the Arena too late for any patrons to be present. The room is dark and empty. He checks his watch, making sure there's time to return to his haven before the sun rears its ugly head. He pulls a piece of printer paper from his inside pocket and tacks it onto the board. Nodding to himself, he slips out and home to escape the burning gaze of morning:::
:::The note is a laser-printing of a word processor document. It reads...:::
Patrons,
Last night, at approximately 2 a.m. eastern standard time, I entered the arena to find the honorable warlords Lupton est Dracoern and Anon engaged in a death challenge. The wards of the ring had been lowered by Drakewyn herself and the match, when I entered, was being witnessed by at least one baron and at least four warlords (not including the two involved). Multiple witnesses testified to the nature of the match as being a challenge to the death.
As I do not wish to embarass any living parties or slander the name of any on the other side, I will leave the reasons for the death challenge unmentioned. Suffice it to say, both parties agreed to risk their lives and all witnesses attest to this covenant. The match lasted eight rounds. Ultimately, Lupton came back from a 4-2 disadvantage to win 5-4. Anon fell over dead and was decaptiated by Cas Maxim to make sure justice and honor were satisfied.
I, Nicholas O'Doyle, then reaffirmed both his death and his identity through careful examination via auspex and the thaumaturgical paths of blood and spirit. Having convinced myself thoroughly that he was human, Anon, and dead, his headless body was set aflame and reduced to ashes which were then collected and removed. I, Nicholas O'Doyle, do hereby, and with some small sadness, recount my accurate witnessing of the final and irreversible death of a
warlord of these fine halls. So let me be the first to say: rest in peace, Anon...you will be missed by some.
Sincerely and Regretfully,
Nicholas O'Doyle

Where's my bottle of wine? I wish I knew about it. I wanted to see someone get thier head knocked off.

Why not remove the ward completely seeing as it does not seem to make a difference on why the ward is there in the first place?
If people want to duel to the death, they should do it elsewhere. This is a sporting hall, not a warzone or an execution chamber.
::disappointed that this is how the arena re-opens after a two week closure::

>>He was young, and niave..and because of this he died. We can't let this happen anymore my fellow Warlords. Mourn Anon's death, for with his death did the degradtion move furhter. <<
No Moregone, he died because he was stupid enough to try something like that, it would of been of more intertainment value if they both cut off each others head at the same time, double the laughter, double the fun!
Now, I hope this ain't part of your plan to purge the world with your sin, 'cause it'll be even funnier when I see you head decaying on a stick in front of the Arena's lawn one morning.

The commoner comes upon the announcement, her sea blue eyes flashing a cold arctic fire as she notes the names of the participants in this heinous deed. She murmurs a soft prayer for the repose of Anon's soul. She then snatches the pen, scrawling a note. She drives a dagger, black ribbons tied to the hilt, into the board, pinning the note securely.
Lady Drakewyn,
Thee follow in the path of the gnome in aiding the retired warlord Lupton in his schemes. May the Guardian Spirit of the kind Cleric, Athlstan show thee mercy for the sacrilege thou hast committed. Tis I must say, I am nae surprised, for in past thou hast shown little respect or regard for these ancient and hallowed halls and e'en less for the sacrifice of the lass, Prudence O'Shaugnessy or for that of the Guardian. May ye one day know the wrath
of the ancient spirits that yet wander the basement.
Lupton, ye dinna surprise me atall. Destruction walks in thine wake, retired warlord. Lands, Houses, Lives, thee seeks but to destroy by thine mechanations that which thee canna create nor hold nor secure. May thine immortality weigh upon thee as the true curse it is.
May the Guardian Spirit give repose unto the soul of the slain, Anon.
In ire and sadness,

Okay, I don't mean to disrespect anyone, but c'mon, the dude is dead. It was his choice to fight to the death. He could've walked away, but did he? I know why they fought, and it was a good reason to me. I woudn't have done it myself, but I'm not them. You won't catch me in a duel to the death, but I also don't have anything against someone else doing it.

I hope the murderer... I mean, winner... of the match is proud of the slaying... I mean, victory... of/over his opponent.
Why is it that those who consider life of little value take it from others?
I hope that your death-dueling ways get to you.
Live very short amounts of time and fail to prosper...

Why are you getting onto Lupton for winning? Would you have done the same if Anon won?

::tacks up a note with disgust::
This is what happens to the arena after it has been closed down? This is what it reopens too?
Why bother dueling to the death in the arena...why not go to the Battlefield or to another place all in general...Why desecrate the arena with this nonsense? The ward placed there for a reason So people would not become injured This is an arena of sport, it is not an arena of death. All those that took part in this spectcle should be highly ashamed of themselves.
::shakes his head and walks off, now again relaizing why he stays away from this place more and more::

Ladies and gentlemen who chastise me,
First, let me point out that as Anon was trying to make me duel him in such a manner, he was attemping to stab me with a knife. I did attempt to talk him out of the duel for a long period before the match. Let everyone who chastises me chastise Xenograg, who did slay Falon dead within the ring many years ago.
After many attempts to try and talk Anon from the match, we dueled. In my self defense, and in a match proposed and insisted by Anon, after his several attempts at murdering me, I won. I used my blade to defend myself and my honor, and he died.
I am not a murderer. I did not stab him in the back as he tried to do to me. I defeated him in honorable combat. I am a warrior, and though I'm sorry he died, I am not sorry I killed him.
