Seamus and anyone informed?
Rather dan assume a reason as ta why Baron Seamus declined a best of 3, perhaps someone who knows could tell us all? Fear he can't win 2 of 3 vs. Dal? Better shot of surprise with just one duel? Lack of stamina? Personal preference?
I'd love some enlightenment before I cast down accusations.

::leaves up an unsigned note::
"The Overlord may offer the challenger a best of three series. This is an
alternative to the "Test of Worthiness" and may not be used in
conjunction with it. "
therefor the best of three becomes the test, and in this case makes the Overlord a breaker of oaths himself, seeing as he has changed his policy to no longer test a current baron. Of course the Overlord cares not for what the rules state, or their meaning.

Looks like someone needs to understand the meaning of "ALTERNATIVE".

Yeah, that's for sure. Afraid to offend someone and get blasted, weenie? Or afraid that we'd jump on a Commoner's back, you used an ambigous signature...

If Dalamar asked you to jump off a cliff:
A true Loyal would jump off immediately.
A Neutral would consider his own safety.
A Renegade would ask Dalamar to do it first.

The commoner tacks a note to the corkboard.
Colleen, Gentles,
Colleen thou statest to wit:
<<Kalamere is no longer a Baron, so Dal has a loophoole, just like a year ago,
when Draven resigned from Questrion and another loophole arose about the
agreement with Valmion and Dalamar.
This is foolishness, anyone else that found loopholes like this would be branded cowards and oathbreakers for going back on their word. Any of you that have called others oathbreakers and cowards better think twice about your personal beliefs before you do so again. Others apparently are not permitted to change their minds, but Dalamar is. That is the ultimate in hypocrisy. All are allowed to change their minds or all are not, no double standards.
From Dal's letter, dated September 11, 1998
I will make this letter brief. I am herein announcing my intention to change one of the (emphasis added) policies of testing that I have believed in during the course of my reign. From this point forward, I will not seek the aid of a champion in any challenge I receive from a duelist currently holding the rank of Baron.
I see no notation of any conditions here.. this was his in own hand and
addressed to the patrons of the Duel of Swords. Also note there is one small
thing many might not have caught... "I will not seek the aid of a champion in any challenge I receive from a duelist currently holding the rank of Baron."
As I see it Seamus was holding the rank of Baron at the time this was written. A newer Baron perhaps Dal could say wasn't included in this policy however Seamus has held the ring since April.
Fine.. if this is the path we are taking here then I remind you that Dalamar has a tendency to not let principle parties in his agreements know of his change of mind of policies. He knows, I know.. half of DoS knows.. need I go on?>>
Master Morgan Redheart, thou dost comment to wit:
<<Not one too dabble in Politics, which is all this is mind ye. But it comes down ta one simple thing. Kalamere's current Rank before he retired, doesn't nullify anything. Once a pact is made, then it is eternal until one party or both break it. It was never said that if Kalamere didn't retain Rank as Baron and or such that it wouldn't be honored.>>
Tis I must say tis seeming a matter 'o misinterpretin' or castin' thine own slant upon the giving of an oath and accepting of an oath.
Tis the oath or promise or pledge, if thee will, wast betwixt M'lord Dalamar ArD'aumon and M'lord Kalamere Ar'din and nae predicated upon annathing but one man's word given unto another. Tis mayhap thou hast nae ast yet come upon Lord Ar'Din's missive. Tis clear to me ast it ever wast that t'was only Kalamere who needs must release Dalamar from his oath should Kalamere choose ta.
Colleen, thou are yet wroth o'er the matter of Draven Altruis, yet, ast wast clearly told unto thee, by none less than Lord Valmion himself, that matter wast betwixt Draven Altruis and Lord Valmion, yet thou continues to castigate, nae e'en to insult Lord Dalamar. Perhaps thou were then ast now nae informed, which, I find nae in the least surprising.
Laird Seamus MacDonnaugh hast pledged an e'en stronger oath shouldst he best the Overlord, for he hast both vowed unto the Community ast a whole and also hast given oath twice unto me. Were I to release Laird MacDonnaugh from his oath he would still be bound by his honor and his oath to the community. Though others may take an oath lightly, I do nae, nor, ast shouldst be plain to annaone with anna wit atall, dost M'Lord Dalamar Ar'Daumon.

Let's put this clearly...
After a certain incident, I made an oath that I would not challenge any Loyal Baron. Some time before that, I made a personal vow not to challenge any Baron who had not held their ring for at least three months. Before that, I made a promise to a friend that I would never challenge for the Mantle of OverLord, leaving that honor to my daughters once they come of age.
If the friend I made that promise to dies, I will still keep it. If that friend I made that promise to asks me to challenge for the Mantle, I will refuse.
Should, by some mysterious circumstance, a true villian become the OverLord, and a pack of villians become his Loyal Barons, I will still not break my oath, nor my vow.
Yet, in closing, I do not hold anyone to live up to those standards... for I do not believe I should. My opinions of those people may be affected, but they will remain my own opinions.
Perhaps people should keep their discussions of their -opinions-, civil.
Thank you for your time.

Rix,
Each of us is intitled to their beliefs, includin yuirself.
Were ye to consider the time element involved wi' my challenge, one as educated in the ways of the DoS as yuirself would know I di' this to avoid the warlords tournament. I was as shocked as the next to hear of the DoS closing. It matters not at this point for it the wheels ha'e been set tae motion.
As to the matter of a best of Three. I will attempt tae answer both yuirs and the Dwarves question. I ha'e set my mind tae removin Dal from his station. No more, no less. He is the * Supreme Duelist* by title and should ha'e no worries from a lowly Baron such as myself.
He knows the reasons I refused his offer, whether he will admit it or not.
I knew Kalamere would release him from his agreement long before the offer was made public. Dalamar made a public decree of his policy concernin the Test of Worthiness in the interest of gaining Kalamere's loyalty. I gi' him full marks for diplomacy. As to his change in policy, tis his right and I dinna gi' a rats behind. Tis his policy to change at anytime he chooses. Such is the priviledge of rank.
With this in mind, I too have rights and one is to refuse his face saving offer of a Best of Three. Whether you deem it a cheap attempt to gain the title, or an act of cowardice has no bearing on the reason nor the end result. My goal is one fold, and whatever the names I am branded wi' I will not waiver from said path.
To Jeff in particular. I have always looked to ye as a man of greatness. Though ye be nae as tall as some about here, yer heart is a large as the whole of DoS. I admire yuir loyalty to a friend, and Dalamar is indeed considered by you to be that. You ha'e the abilty to overlook his shortcomings and remain steadfast in yuir support. For this you are indeed, his freind.
I also admire yuir skill wi' tha' blasted Chaos blade, but it, nor you will make me change my mind on this matter.
Be it you, Sartan, Morgan or any other faithful Baron or Warlord, I will take what is set before me as my fate. I will not back down for the name callin, or the inferences. My purpose is as stated, single fold, and however it ends, is up to the powers tha' be.
Now cast any accusations ye feel appropriate Jeff Oakenshield, but remember one thing, nerra once ha'e I cast an aspursion on yer honor for doing what ye felt is right. I may believe a thing is nae appropriate, and I speak of it with fire, but only in the interest of those I consider the DoS.

If we want to start a trend of those who are offering their blades, I too, will offer mine to Seamus.
While others feel it is honorable to defend an overlord with such fickle policies, just to get another loyal baron on his side, I feel I am helping a friend who has not used anyone at all. Seamus, in my opinion, is honorable. He has not compromised his beliefs for self gain.
Now the readers see where I was wrong in choosing to be loyal to Dalamar. Then again, I thought he was different when I swore loyalty. That's just me.
As it was something between Jeff and Huma, the DoS as a whole condemned Huma for "breaking an oath". I don't think it's one's duty to free another of their oath. This policy, like Huma's word, was made public. How many people were pleased to see that Dal wouldn't test a baron anymore? Just as everyone was pleased to see that Huma would keep to his word of honor.
Both turning back from their word indirectly slapped the arena in the face.
Both going back on their word just so they can hold the title of Overlord is how I see it, and I wish to remain consistent with this. X and Y and Z can say, "But Dal knows what's right" and "I don't think person A deserves the crown". Either you're fooling yourself, or you're trying (in vain, if I may add) to fool us.

Jona,
For one who tells others that they have no business dabbling in such things, you certainly speak your mind a lot. For instance, the matter of MISS Jaycynda Ashleana's challenge. What went on is between herself, her servant and those involved with making the decisions regarding the matters of challenge, at that time Helix and Golden.
If I have no right to speak my opinons and feelings regarding the matter of Dalamar's policy or lack there of regarding the testing of Barons or the right to say it was common decency, regardless of what one feels is owed to them, to inform a principle party that an agreement is cancelled then no one else has a right to speak on any matter that doesn't directly concern them either.
Pointedly.. who does this challenge and testing arrangement effect, Seamus and Dalamar, and until it is done it concerns only them and the rest of should be silent until then or stop bickering over raised opinions.
At to the matter that Sid brought up concerning Luthien and Gaviliean's son Tristian. You seem to forget that I was present when a matter was being discussed in the Golden Ivy about the boy. You wouldn't even allow his mother to see him. It was my distinct impression that you were also blocking her empathic link to him as well, but I've no proof of that. I find it odd that an inate bond between a mother and child could be so easily tampered with by
one not blood related.

In reading this passage from Var's note, I think of the old saying... "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me... "
I'm not planning on it being me who is shamed.

Seamus,
After readin' yer missive am I corrected in understandin' dat ye seek ta trap Dalamar? Do ya seek ta make him fight one duel which we all know can be a matter of luck, or force him ta rely on a champion and go back on his word? Ye know a true contest of skill is da best of 3, fer as one duel can swing either way, over 3 duels da better man/woman will triumph. As ye are aware of it and claim ye are no coward and fear not Dalamar's blade, is it ye
intend ta trap him?
If it is a trap, well sir I do find dishonor in it. And when Dalamar asks a champion ta step up, I shall hope he chooses me. And when ye do deem a champion, I hope Dalamar's wins, and I hope he does best ya.
I have always respected ya Seamus, ye act with honor and fight with da same. However dis ploy, if I understand it correctly is not da act of an honorable man. Ye have declinded Dalamar because ya want ta trap him between riskin' his title on a single duel or going back on his word and naming a champion - it's a low tactic sir, nothing more.

Seamus,
After readin' yer missive am I corrected in understandin' dat ye seek ta trap Dalamar?

Var,
Difference is Dalamar has only one other option. Best of 3. When it is declinded by a warlord or baron challenger - he has now 2 choices. Risk a title he has held fer over a year on a single duel, which can be a contest of sheer luck. Or have a champion step forward, and hopefully stop such an event from comin' ta pass.
A challenger should never be able ta win our supreme title with one duel. We fight and win many a duels on a daily basis. Ta be supreme ya should be pressed ta yer very limits, defeat a champion and den da Overlord, or beat da Overlord in a best of 3.
Seamus is trappin' Dalamar, hopefully he will not bite and will name a champion.

PS: Ya should also know, Var, and everyone else; Dalamar offered Best of 3 FIRST. If he does name a champion it will be because Seamus has declinded his offer and it is his ONLY other option ta a single duel.
