::Walks up to the boards and tacks a paper up::

I don't do things like this often, but I think it's time to speak up.

I want you all to imagine yourself in the arena on a Friday night, waiting to get called into the ring, on the next stool, a man lights up a nasty smelling cigar. You cough a few times. Try to ignore it. Luckily, you get called into the ring and away from the billowing cloud of smoke.
You get into the duel and, for no logical reason; you lose to a newbie commoner who has never before picked up a sword in his life. You sit at the bar a second, trying to figure out what just happened. When the same man lights up another Cigar. Suddenly, as you start to cough, it hits you. The Smoke!

I would like all of you Non-Smokers to sign this Potition, not only for the sport, but for the health of the little serving Lads and the pregnant Women, Elves and other People who didn't want to be mentioned in this post.

Until people stop smoking in the DoS, Non-Smoking 2nd hand smoke victums can get Free Gas-masks from the hotel i'm staying at. Just tell the bell bow that you're here for the stuff and he'll be happy to give them to you.

Playing Devils Advocate here a moment...

Just because you make up some petition, does not mean that it will stop someone from smoking. Also, there is freedom of choice to consider. Suppose a smoker started a petition to force everyone to start smoking? Maybe noone would sign it, but the thoughts the same.

Granted, I don't smoke often, but there are times I do like to light up a nice cigar once in a while. I may not do it in the public, but if I wanted to, I would. For some of these reasons, I won't be signing the petition. People have a right to smoke, just as people have a right to clean air. Open a window. Or calmly ask the smoker to sit by the window so the smoke goes out there. Either way, smoking isn't going to stop. Not in the arena or
anywhere else.

Sorry.

And just remember, I'm just playing the Devil's Advocate.

::reads the petition::
::scratches his head;:

The arena is such a big damn place people. If someone beside you is smoking, move. Please, this is a fighting arena. There's blood all over the ground and you're complaining about the smoke? This is pathetic. I mean, dont get me wrong, I'm not attacking you, but the idea of a smoke free battle ground is pretty crappy. Ah anyway.

I don't know Mr Advocate, the smoke could explain why your game was so off during our match.

Smoke? No, clearly the reason I lost was the texture of the ring accompanied by the style of blade I was using, along with the gravitational fluxes of the moon of Rhydin coinciding with the rings of a nearby planet which resulted in my mojo being undefined.

Everyone.

While my name is on this petition, I did not in fact sign this petition.
This is not to indicate I condone smoking in the Arena or the Annex... in fact, if you smoke near me, you're likely to get a few dirty looks.
I suffer from a rather serious allergic reaction to tobacco smoke, the most commonly smoked substance in the Realm, as I understand it. And, in addition, I am with child... a fact that only compounds the matter.
However, I agree with Gnort... so I will keep a small air elemental upon my shoulder to filter the air near me. It is a rather simple spell, and I am reasonably certain I could teach it to those of you who are capable of performing magick.
I don't ask for people to give up smoking... only for people on both sides of the arguement to give each other space.
I thank you for your time.

As to the smoking issue... I think it's rude not to ask someone that you are in close contact with if they mind. If someone is far away from me.. I care not. The only time I object is when small children or a pregnant woman is near the smoker. The unborn can't speak for themselves.

Nine times out of ten my reply when asked is, "No, I don't mind as long as you don't blow the smoke in my face."
