On December 3rd, Jaycynda Ashleana did witness and officiate the Baronial Match for the Eighth Ring, between Baron Jeffrey Oakenshield and Topaz Eludes Arakanan.

The Warlady dueled under the colors of Atrebla, jade and black. Dexter Montoya stood as her second, and she dueled for the honor of Lord Eros Hunrai Marzanhe DeBurgo, wielding the Krondonian rapier, a gift from Dex.

The Baron dueled under the colors of crimson and metallic gold, wielding the two-handed mithril battle axe, Chaos. His wife, Summer Oakenshield, stood as both Second and Lady of Honor.

The Duel was as follows...

Round One:
Both begin cautiously this night, perhaps knowing the bite of their opponents' weapons... And thus this match begins in defense. But alas, Jeff's most wonderful parry gains naught over Topaz's step to the side. (( FCP/SS ))
.5-0 Topaz

Round Two:
For a moment, the two circle... each seeking the opening they need to score. Topaz spies it first, and swiftly she moves in. Jeff, seeing her commit, thrusts in, scoring a hit over the attempted low cut. (( TH/LC ))
1-.5 Jeff

Round Three:
Jeff seems ready for anything, this night, and thus sweeps the blade up in one of the finest displays I have seen. However, once again, his defensive parry is no match for Topaz's chosen defense. (( FLP/FDU ))
1.5-1 Topaz

Round Four:
Thus far, the Baron has given points to take them back, and this round he attempts to do the same. And so he does, oh-so-fancily avoiding Topaz's ill-timed thrust. (( FSS/TH ))
2-1.5 Jeff

Round Five:
At Topaz's request, Jeff is more than happy to come back. And so he does, striking out. But... While his high attack hits, so does Topaz's low strike, and both score. (( HC/LC ))
3-2.5 Jeff

Round Six:
Each have taken their hits this evening, and it is still not done... However, Jeff values his head, and saves it, turning away the high cut in the most wonderful fashion. (( HC/FLP ))
4-2.5 Jeff

Round Seven:
It's not often one gets to witness such a fine show of skill within the rings. But alas, so it must end, Jeff's high cut scoring a blow as the Warlady tries to fancy sidestep away. (( HC/FSS ))
5-2.5 Jeff

Thus, Jeffrey Oakenshield has successfully defended his right to bear the Eighth Baron's Ring of the Duel of Swords

(( J Oaknshld def. TinyTopaz, 5-2.5 in 7 rounds. ))

Congratulations on a really fast defense. I wish I could have seen it live.
(See? Now I can join the "Congratulations on a fine defense" squad! Cheering up everyone, everywhere, except those who don't like humor:)

Wisdom for now:

I'm thinking about a weird idea: DoS Pay-Per-Views. Hmmm....

Topaz,

Well tried, dear lady, and nobly. You are worth a ring, and you will find one again I am sure. But it was not to be this time.

Jeff,

Well done you stubborn old bulldog. You have shown again what we all know. You are damned good in the rings. I am sure, however, there is a challenger out there with your name on his blade. He won't have an easy time of it, though.

Nicely tried, Topaz. The dwarf prevailed again. Good win, Jeff-maester.

Topaz

I have faith in your endeavors to bear the title of Baron.
Keep up your vigil. A great poet once said that "Persistance
has commonly awarded a person their final goal".
May you have have better luck in the future.
