::thinks a moment then goes back to reread the riddle he thought he'd answered::
I guess I was wrong. The riddle I'd heard to this effect said that the untrue one was standing infront of the door to hell. This one is slightly different.

>You'd need to be able to ask two questions
This is wrong. There is a question that can be asked concerning the options that it doesn't matter who it is asked to, they'll give the same answer

No problem.....
You ask one of the persons this question:
"If I asked the other person in here if (let's say there's door one and two) door one leads to salvation what will he/she say?
This way if the person you asked said the other would say yes it leads to salvation either he/she is lying in which case the other guard would say it doesn't and is the truth teller so you know door two is salvation. Or the person you asked is the truth teller in which he/she would say the other would say it does lead salvation. Which means the other would be the liar and once again door two is salvation.

There are some problems with this. Number one, you don't KNOW if the person you did ask is telling the truth or not. Number two, maybe the liar is guarding the door to salvation? Number three, you only get to ask once. For this to come close to working you'd have to ask them both and they'd both have to answer.

Or, just kill both guards, open both doors, peek in. This way, you don't have to ask any question.

No read it again, you don't have to ask two questions just one, I just was telling the two different answers that can possibly be given if you ask that question. It's very hard to explain it through writing but it is the correct answer. Read it slowly, or make a picture that way you can seperate who's who, but i know for a fact it is correct. If
I could talk it through with you in further depth I could explain it to you.

My solution is still the best. And it stops everyone from thinking to hard.

The true question to ask is "Which door will the other guard tell me leads to freedom?"
The truthful guard will tell you that the liar will indicate the door that leads to death... The lying guard will know that the truthful guard will indicate the correct door, so he will lie and tell you that he will indicate the door that leads to death...
With the door thus indicated, you simply choose the other door and are thus released.

Drake, Galin,
It still makes no sense. How can you be sure that you asked the right one? It doesn't matter what they say, you will not know if it is the truth or not.

Percival, think a moment.
"Which door will the other say leads to salvation?" Say door A is good, door B is bad. The truthful guardian will say that the liar will tell you door B leads to salvation. The liar would be forced to lie and say the truthful person would indicate the wrong door, saying door B lead to salvation. Either way, you know to choose door A. It makes plenty of sense.

Thank you Lucian...
Now, back to my rather easy word-riddle...
