Madame Elgarette,
Just who dost think ye aire to declare annaone wrong, or for that matter to castigate a husband for his support of his wife? Hast thou managed to be appointed by some higher power ast an authority upon what a husband may chose to say or do in defense of his wife? Ye have spent most of thine years in the realms meddling in matters that were nae yuir affair. Yuir gullibity ist legendary ast hast been displayed upon numerous occasions. Perhaps ye
shouldst consider yuir own writings upon this corkboard. Ye hae nigh set a record for telling folk to hush nae to mention butting thine nose into matters that aire nae nor e'er were anna of yuir concern. I hae nae doubt thou shalt continue in thine ways. Thee aire much to old to change thine nature.
Yuir lack of good breeding hast been more than adequately displayed upon occasions much to numerous to recount and reflects directly upon thee, nae yuir deceased parents. If thee think for one moment yuir ill disguised plea for sympathy in mentioning thine parents shall find anna merit with me, ye aire verra much mistaken. I should consider them blessed in that they aire nae able to be aware of thine behavior. Ye make yuir own choices, Madame, and
yuir choices reflect thine breeding and upbringing or lack thereof.
Ye made the comment to M'lord Medici-Giovanni to "grow up". Considering yuir age and the grey that ist creeping into thine locks, perhaps ye shouldst take thine own advice. Ast to questioning M'lord Medici-Giovanni's sanity, mayhap ye shouldst questioning yuir own. I, for one, hae long since ceased to question yuir reason. One may indulge a child or those who hae lost their faculties. Indeed, those bereft of reason aire frequently thought to be
touched by the gods. I, for one, dinna subscribe to that particular superstition in thine case. I do, however, find much amusement in seeing thee so oft stumble over thine own tongue, tis the one thing at which thee hast become most adept.
Very much amused,

Cletus,
In the matter of questions, I hae nae need to nor shall I answer questions pertaining to my private life nor that of my bairns or my husband. If thee aire in need of someone to translate me comments, there are personages of intelligence who hae little difficulty understanding me missives. Perhaps thou might seek one out for a translation or perhaps thee may seek an adept to place a spell upon thine eyes to improve thine vision. There ist also the
option of seeking out a craftsman adept in the making of spectacles.
The Baron Magnus nae seemed to hae the wit at the time to e'en realize nor to inquire if he could in fact intercede in what hast since been termed an "Honor Duel". The point ist now moot, of course, yet I for one shall nae forget the events of that evening.
The question yet remains and wast directed to the challenger, nae to thee, Cletus. I shall reiterate the question. What makes the Warlord Jake Heartman consider that he ist worthy to seek a Baron's ring? I once asked of thee the same question and thee dinna deign to answer. Tis a fair question, one I hae asked of many what seek the title of Baron. Anna who do step forward seeking such, place themselves within the public eye and quite properly
aire subject to the scrutiny of the community.
Rest assured, Cletus, thee hae nae need to concern thineself that thou shalt hae me respect, thee dinna ast a personage, though I shall afford thee the barest modicum of a nod in deference to thine title ast Baron. Tis a courtesy oft overlooked by those who currently frequent the basement, a tradition if thou wilt, one that seems to hae fallen by the wayside ast hae other traditions.
Thou hast said that the Baron Magnus choses to meet his challengers upon the Isle of Twilight in deference to the memory of his mother, a mage. Though tis laudable he should wish to honor her, in me opinion, he dishonors the title of Baron by eschewing to meet his challengers upon the ancient and magical sands of the dueling rings. Tis certes he may choose to meet his challengers where e'er he pleases. Tis simply another case of one new come to
these ancient halls casting aside yet another tradition. Considering the decline that hast o'ercome the dueling house within the last two full turnings of the seasons, tis that comes ast nae surprise.
The desecration of the dueling house, the vandalism of this ancient corkboard, the invasion of the Hall of Heroes by a thief aire signs of the decline. Ast well, further signs of the decline include but aire nae limited to those warlords making challenge and yet fearful of placing their bonifides upon this ancient corkboard ast well ast those warlords who didst seek to skirt the rules of engagement in their headlong quest to gain a Baron's title.
Of all who have held the Fifth Ring afore thee Cletus, rest assured, in me opinion, thee have brought the ring to a new low in the annals; a dubious honor at best.

I might ask of thee the selfsame question, sirrah. I shall also point out that the use of the diminutive "Jona" ist reserved unto those I consider friend. Thee dinna know me, sirrah, and assuredly thee dinna fall into that category. Think thee I hae forgotten the insult thee offered unto me after I had politely declined to duel thee? Rest assured I hae not forgotten it.

Ya know, that's getting old Jona...just like you. I have a name, and you will address me as such, any action other than that, brings you down to the level of which you have deemed me to be in.
I'd rather be an "Oathbreaker" rather than an old hag.

Jona,
You say it is dishonorable to duel for a ring on Twilight Island, does that same dishonor apply to those who duel on the Battlefield, for if I recall correctly, I believe our Overlord has defended his crown on numerous occasions there. Are you calling him dishonorable aslo?

Cletus,
The Battlefield wast just ast the name implies, a "battlefield" built to accomodate those that wouldst cross blades, much ast long agon the Great Hall didst accomodate manna a challenge match nae to mention being the location of the Warlord's Tourney which didst establish the Original Nine Barons.
Tis the Isle of Twilight and the Outback were established long agon yet nae so long ago ast the ancient cavern wherein those that do dance the dance of steel cross blades nae to mention a varied assortment of other weapons. Tis indeed the Overlord hast crossed blades upon the Battlefield ast well ast hae some Barons, nae to mention manna a Baron didst meet his challenger within the sanctuary of the rings within the Great Hall that which ist adjacent
to the ancient Red Dragon Inn.
None, save the Baron Magnus, has chosen to so slight the community, these ancient caverns and halls, nae to mention the traditions and memory of every Overlord e'en unto the legendary Gondar, by crossing blades upon an Isle set aside for those that aire adept in the arts of magic, a dubious distinction in me estimation, and further reason to consider the Baron Magnus unworthy of representing the community ast a Baron let alone ast the Overlord of the
Duel of Swords.

Jona,
In this you are wrong. The former Baron, Evan Rush Rynth, did indeed duel on the Isle in a Baronial Match.
Also, Agrenish's defense against Var was fought in the rings of the Outback.

Oathbreaker,
Thou hast brought thineself down to a level little above that of the lowest crawling beast, meaning nae insult to the beasts, for they at least crawl with a certain dignity. Thee will pardon mine amusement in that I find thine attempts at insult on a par with thine intelligence. They lack both wit and originality, nae to mention, I do wonder what epithet thou wouldst cast on someone who hast seen more than the thirty-one summers I have been
blessed to witness. Thee once held mine respect, Oathbreaker, for thee once held thine head high and proud in the face of thine foes. How far thee hae fallen, Oathbreaker, how much further shall thee fall until thee aire finally laid to rest? Thou art a sad, pitiable creature, Oathbreaker, bereft of honor and thine manhood by thine own deeds. Were thee a horse, I should show thee the mercy of putting thee out of thine misery.

Fun ain't it? Oh yes.. it is. When I get that ring, I won't shove it in your face, you'll get the feeling by the time I get it. The feeling.. Jake actually can kick someones ass other than his own, and don't you feel

Jake, you think pretty highly of yourself if you think for one I will get any feeling if you happen to beat Sartan. Your wrong there.
Wear myself out? Funny how you seem to be yapping and ranting more then most people here. I have kept my comments about you to the barest minimum. Why? Because your not important enough to me that is why.
You won't beat Sartan, Yes your a warlord, yes you have the required peer wins to challenge for the title. That's about it Jake. Your nothing but a bunch of hot air. As I said before...grow up man.

Jona,
At least these creepy crawly things don't caryy a "better than you" attitude, nor do they feel themselves above anyone, and furthermore, life with the slugs and worms is a happy one, simple, and plain. Best part about it, we don't have to deal with scumballs. Yep, I like being the lowest form of life.

Jonalyn,
I'm afraid I find a few points of contention in your response to the young Baron Cletus. Just as the Great Hall was originally constructed as a meeting place for all the realm (in fact, I can remember witnessing a wedding in that grand hall soon after my assignment to this area) and was eventually absorbed into the traditions of the Duel of Swords, the Battlefield has a similar origin. The Battlefield, as memory serves, was built to accomodate
warfare manuevers of a very different kind. The Battlefield's original intention was not for contests of swordsmanship, but for technological war exercises. I was even able to witness one of these displays about two or three years ago, soon after the land was cleared and prepared for the mock combat. If I'm not mistaken, it was to be considered a sport not unlike the Duel of Swords, yet it was to be considered war en masse.
There comes a point where everyone must admit to nitpicking, and I believe we have reached this point. In the matters of traditions... the wheres are the least of our worries. Should a Baron choose to duel on the Island of Magic and not in the Arena or the Annex, that is his or her own choice. It is not an insult to the memory of those that did not have the option to duel in such places, it is merely a tangent. Just as Dalamar (or perhaps it was
another, I cannot remember who was the first) adopted the Battlefield as his 'home field' and sought to conduct his challenges there, so too may a Baron choose to bring others to the Island of Magic or the Outback.
Allow those new to the sport to add their own traditions. This is no longer a sport for only those that can remember a time before Magics and Fists. Just as those that have gone and passed before us added their own traditions, so too must those that come long after we both are dead and gone.

Aye, indeed it wast. The infamous match that should nae hae taken place, considering the challenge wast improperly made. Tis but one saving grace, that be the sanctity of the ancient rings was nae soiled and tainted by the then warlord, now Baroness who dost continue to hold the Third ring. I shall reiterate that the warlord Unagi's challenge wast set aside for being improperly issued, yet that of Jaycynda Ashleana, a warlord wast permitted to
proceed. Tis upon her conscience and may it e'er remain so e'en unto the depths of the Abyss, for in deceit she didst earn that ring, in sorrow may she wear it and in pain may it be stricken from her.
Tis yet another sign of the decline of these once ancient halls nae to mention the utter callousness and disregard for the community, the rules of engagement and the once proud traditions shown by the current crop of "baby warlords" seeking title. Mediocrity abounds, Xerxes; indeed it rises to new heights by the week.

Xerxes
