>>Just who dost think ye aire to declare annaone wrong, or for that matter to castigate a husband for his support of his wife?<<

I think myself a person entitled to an opinion. My words are my opinion. I know you have long wished to squelch the voicing of the opinions of many a person here, but I'll be damned if I'll let one such as you to quiet my words.

>>Hast thou managed to be appointed by some higher power ast an authority upon what a husband may chose to say or do in defense of his wife?<<

No, the gods have not given me authority, only an opinion and the right to express it.

>>Ye have spent most of thine years in the realms meddling in matters that were nae yuir affair. Yuir gullibity ist legendary ast hast been displayed upon numerous occasions.<<

YOU of all people, should not be pointing fingers about meddling in other's affairs. People in glass houses should never throw stones. And besides, you have little or no knowledge of my life, despite how many times you have tried to dig your way into it.

>>Perhaps ye shouldst consider yuir own writings upon this corkboard. Ye hae nigh set a record for telling folk to hush nae to mention butting thine nose into matters that aire nae nor e'er were anna of yuir concern.<<

There is a difference between a private affair that should have been left off of the cork board and one that started on the board. These are my friends who have been wronged by this woman, and by her husband who tries to protect her from her just deserts.

>>I hae nae doubt thou shalt continue in thine ways. Thee aire much to old to change thine nature.<<

Ah, always one to turn a word spoken in jest into a jibe back at the jester, aye? It is of no matter. I'm sure those that are hundreds of years older than I can in fact tell you, in all seriousness, that I am not "too old" to do anything.

>>Yuir lack of good breeding hast been more than adequately displayed upon occasions much to numerous to recount and reflects directly upon thee, nae yuir deceased parents.<<

I am beginning to wonder if you even know of the meaning of the words you fling at others. Certainly you know the meaning of the words "ill breeding"?

>>If thee think for one moment yuir ill disguised plea for sympathy in mentioning thine parents shall find anna merit with me, ye aire verra much mistaken.<<

Attempt to gain sympathy from a viper? I think not. I only mention facts. Take them how you wish. You always have.

>>I should consider them blessed in that they aire nae able to be aware of thine behavior. Ye make yuir own choices, Madame, and
yuir choices reflect thine breeding and upbringing or lack thereof.<<

Madam Nenshen, my breeding and upbringing are none of your concern. As I said, those that live in glass houses should never throw stones. Lower your nose, woman, for your upbringing is no better than mine.

>>Ye made the comment to M'lord Medici-Giovanni to "grow up". Considering yuir age and the grey that ist creeping into thine locks, perhaps ye shouldst take thine own advice. Ast to questioning M'lord Medici-Giovanni's sanity, mayhap ye shouldst questioning yuir own. I, for one, hae long since ceased to question yuir reason. One may indulge a child or those who hae lost their faculties. Indeed, those bereft of reason aire frequently thought to
be touched by the gods. I, for one, dinna subscribe to that particular superstition in thine case. I do, however, find much amusement in seeing thee so oft stumble over thine own tongue, tis the one thing at which thee hast become most adept.
<<

Nenshen, you would be amused at a battlefield for as many times as you've been amused at times when having such mirth is unnecessary, unmerited and unwanted. As you hopefully know, I do not care one whit what you think of me, else I'd be pulling out my hair and strangling you on the spot. You test even the most sane person's patience, as many in the Community have expressed, numerous times.

Please, as others have stated...cease, desist, stop. Your foot is coming precariously close to your mouth once again.

Baroness, Madame Ashleana

I do thank you for the information. Thou hast added yet more names to the list of those that do blithely cast aside the traditions along with thine own dubious distinction as the Baroness who earned her ring by an act of deceit then had nae the courage to stand up and admit thine error. I must say, it seems placing blame upon servants ist becoming a fashion. Perhaps thou ast set another trend, madame, a dubious one at best. Tis I mind that thee
aire among those who considers such ast the desecration of the dueling house ast well ast the flouting of nae only the traditions ast well ast the rules of engagement to be of little consequence.

Point of Fact: It was myself and Ellisa who first dueled a challenge match on da Battlefield...because it was original.

We held all of our matches dere until it was removed from da list of acceptable forums fer DoS. Others followed suit in holdin' matches dere because ya could escape da zoo like atmopshere of da arena on a regular duelin' night, and have a place reserved all fer yerself.

Cristian de Oro

If we wish to delve that far back, Master de Oro, the Great Hall wast used for manna diverse events, weddings, funerals, trysts, duels, assassinations, births, in the more recent past it was the sight of the trial of the infamous Mad Major, and e'en further back t'was the venue oft used by certain of the guilds to conduct their various affairs. Indeed at one time t'was rumored the Great Hall was haunted by the spirits of the many that fell there in
all manner of ways, and, at one time, wast the largest of the public Nexus points in Rhydin Towne, not to be exceeded for many years until the magical expansion of the Basement Caverns.

Indeed, the Battlefield wast originally constructed to provided a place for technological upon a grid, if memory serves. Beyond what thou hast termed as an instance of mock combat, that sport indeed ne'er came to full fruition.

In that those who have gone before in fact didst hae the option to duel upon the Isle of Twilight and/or within the Outback they didst eschew to do so, instead they didst chose the basement or the Great Hall then the adjacent annex and the battlefield in that order, if memory serves.

Indeed, thou hast requested that those new to the "sport" be allowed to add their own traditions. Hast noticed the traditions these so called "newcomers" hae added? Indeed, shall I recount some of them for thee? We have in our midst a Baroness who earned her ring through deceit then laid the blame upon her servant to protect her reputation, and who remained silent whilst others bore the brunt of the scathing remarks, too cowardly to stand forth
and admit her error. We have baby warlords who hae nae the wit nor the intelligence to understand the simplest of requirements in issuing proper challenge. We have baby warlords unwilling to place their bonafides before the community. We have those who consider the desecration of these ancient caverns to be but a mere joke. There are others who invade the very Hall of Heroes stealing private property.

Ye shall pardon me if I find such less than amusing, in fact I find it utterly appalling.

Oathbreaker,

Those "creepy crawly things" need nae carry a "better than thou art" attitude, they are born to it, whereas thee chose to become what thou art, and do insult the very worms and vermin among which thee crawl by thine very presence among them. Methinks nae self respecting worm nor maggot wouldst deign to dine upon thee were thee to cease to draw breath for fear what is excreted wouldst befoul their nests.

Jonalyn Nenshen Starfare,

What I find "utterly appalling" is the fact that you would group such things as mischallenges and larceny in the same category as merely changing the venue of a duel. If you find true malice in a man's actions when he decides to set his own match in an area where there have been few blade matches before, I would have to seriously question the level of your paranoia. Don't seek to find fault in every action of these so-called "newcomers", Madame
Starfare... allow them the room to expand *good* traditions in these so oft-"desecrated" halls. Perhaps then, we will see just a bit of this bitterness disappear and, with it, maybe even the root of this "desecration".
There's no need to nitpick every last deed of the 'newcomers'... especially when they are so benign. There is no malice in the want to move the challenge duel to the open air of the Island of Magic. Allow the boy his time in the sun without continually berating him for every little want of change. And never group such things in with the breaking of the rules... those are certainly not traditions in any sense of the word.

First off....I will call you by what variation of your name I please. I will call you Jonalyn instead of "Jona" however, out of respect for your wishes. I have watched you skewer everyone on here for their challenges....this is a sport..they have a *right* to challenge just by being here and winning what they have.....You're tongue-lashings roll off my back, wanna know why? because you have proven *nothing*

You know, after a few minute's thought....I decided to remove myself from this argument.
Everyone, no matter what their rank, has a right to say their opinion as they wish, as well as no matter what that opinion is. I just hope my stance on all this is clear. But I will no longer
join in on this. I apologize to all I may have offended

Madame Elgarette,

Thee writes: <<I think myself a person entitled to an opinion. My words are my opinion. I know you have long wished to squelch the voicing of the opinions of many a person here, but I'll be damned if I'll let one such as you to quiet my words.>>

Thine selective memory seems to have gone into overdrive, Madame. Oh, that is a technological term, perhaps thee shall need instruction in its meaning. Do ask, for there yet remain some few who understand the meaning. Despite thine wishing and saying tis so, I have nae deigned to tell folk to hush nor sought to squelch the voicing of any opinion or comments. I am certain thee canna say the same thing. I find it e'en more amusing that thee
claim to be an authority upon what I wish. I am certain I have yet to indulge in that particular pasttime, nor do I employ me skills ast an adept in that particular area nor am I likely to express what I may wish to thee.

<<No, the gods have not given me authority, only an opinion and the right to express it.>>

That is a most amusing statement. Ist it now thine claim that thine opinion is "god given" and further that the gods have granted unto thee special dispensation to express it? How droll, Madame, one would have thought thee were old enough to think for thineself and nae need the assistance of the "gods" in forming an opinion nor of being in need of beseeching the "gods" to grant thee leave to express one.

<<YOU of all people, should not be pointing fingers about meddling in other's affairs. People in glass houses should never throw stones. And besides, you have little or no knowledge of my life, despite how many times you have tried to dig your way into it.>>

Madame, certes thee aire aware, with thine oh so marvelous breeding, that pointing fingers is, at the very least, an ill-mannered display. I am nae acquainted with people who chose to live in glass houses, tis an extravagance in which I hae yet to indulge, nor do I make it a habit of flinging other than an occasional pewter mug at the ancient bell over the bar.

Now, thine comment that I wouldst have anna interest in thine life borders on sheer insanity. Dost think so highly of thineself that thee truly can conceive that I wouldst give a fig ast to your doings? If memory serves me correctly, the only one doing any digging into ones life wast you with your meddlesome, ill conceived, unwanted and unwarranted intrusions into the lives of my husband and myself and into the internal affairs of the
kingdom of Westridge; in very much the same manner ast thee aire now intruding thineself into the lives Noelle and Var Medici-Giovanni. This particular trait of yuirs goes back years. If memory serves me correctly, thee made such a habit in thine last life ast well.

<<There is a difference between a private affair that should have been left off of the cork board and one that started on the board. These are my friends who have been wronged by this woman, and by her husband who tries to protect her from her just deserts.>>

The above ist nigh onto the most hypocritical comment thee have e'er made, Madame, though I have little doubt thee shall endeavor to exceed thineself at some future date. Thou hast nae the wit to determine a private affair from a public matter ast thee have shown time and time again. Be thee now setting thineself thineself up ast judge and jury? Deja vu, Madame and oh so typical of thee. Perhaps thou wilst elucidate upon exactly what "just
deserts" thee wouldst dish out, Madame? Oh, do pardon me, ist this one of thine "god given" rights, taking it upon thineself to decide what ist just and isna just? I doubt thee hae e'en considered the possibilty that thee hae wronged the Lady Noelle and have perhaps succumbed to the gossip, innuendo and slander dished by certain "ladies", and then set on the caisson, ast the loose cannon thee aire well known to be, to shout to the rafters that your
friends have been wronged. Madame, I have seen you led astray too many times to count or to take seriously any thing thee might claim. Tis a wonder thee hae nae permanently damaged thine feet, leaping to so oft to conclusions.

<<Ah, always one to turn a word spoken in jest into a jibe back at the jester, aye? It is of no matter. I'm sure those that are hundreds of years older than I can in fact tell you, in all seriousness, that I am not "too old" to do anything.>>

Madame, no one is "too old" to look a fool and thee certes have a record of "doing" things, most of which are merely annoyances at best and certes of little or no consequence in the grand scheme of things.

<<I am beginning to wonder if you even know of the meaning of the words you fling at others. Certainly you know the meaning of the words "ill breeding"?>>

Madame Elgarett, it comes ast nae surprise thee wouldst wonder at anything. Thine grasp of the language ist rudimentary at best ast hast been demonstrated by thee upon numerous occasions. I most assuredly know the meaning of the words "ill breeding", I have had the dubious distinction of knowing thee. Had I been ignorant of the meaning of the words, rest assured thee define them quite exactly.

<<Attempt to gain sympathy from a viper? I think not. I only mention facts. Take them how you wish. You always have.>>

Madame Elgarette, thee wouldna know a "fact" if it leaped in front of thee and thee tripped over it. I can assure thee I have a normal tongue, nae scales, nae fangs and most certes nae a tail, nor do I slither, save against my husband. Thee aire of the type that believes if thee say it enough thee shall find someone ast gullible ast thee who shall believe thee. I seem to recall thee accepting ast "fact" a personage claiming to be Phlag.
Indeed thee didst go so far ast welcoming him with a cordial greeting upon this verra corkboard, when, in "fact" t'was nae Phlag but an impostor. Thee and I aire well aware of more than one instance in which thine senses were easily deceived. Tis likely thine senses hae nae sharpened with age, Madame.

<<Madam Nenshen, my breeding and upbringing are none of your concern. As I said, those that live in glass houses should never throw stones. Lower your nose, woman, for your upbringing is no better than mine.>>

Madame Elgarette, ast usual thine "facts" aire muddled. I am Madame Starfare. Tis nae surprise thee wouldst seem to forget that, tis another sign of thine creeping senility nae doubt. I wast a nameless waif, and Nenshen ist the name given me by the man who served ast mentor and godfather to me during my minority. I hae nae claimed the upbringing thee hast, Madame. If I am nae mistaken thee hast claimed a noble pedigree and lineage. Perhaps
it ist thine nose that shouldst be lowered, Madame, for I hae nae e'er claimed other than humble birth and upbringing.

<<Nenshen, you would be amused at a battlefield for as many times as you've been amused at times when having such mirth is unnecessary, unmerited and unwanted. As you hopefully know, I do not care one whit what you think of me, else I'd be pulling out my hair and strangling you on the spot. You test even the most sane person's patience, as many in the Community have expressed, numerous times.>>

Madame Elgarette, again thine grasp of "facts" deserts thee. I have been upon a battlefield, indeed, I have left my blood upon the soil of two lands and found nothing in the least amusing in the experience. Madame, I can assure thee I do not take thee or thine melodramatic declarations seriously. Hollow threats and melodramatic stridence ist what ist to be expected of thee and ist vastly amusing. If it were nae for thine comedic factor, I
would take no note of thee at all.

Since it has already been well established that thine sanity is fragile and thee hae proven time and again that patience ist nae among thine virtures, I should suggest thee seek out a capable wig maker, thee mayhap shall find thee aire in need. In fact, thee might wish to secure an apothecary to obtain the henna needed to maintain thine coloring. Thee dinna age gracefully or well, Madame Elgarette. If I were to ponder it in a chance moment, I
wouldst say thee behave much like an withered old woman approaching fifty who ist trying to convince herself she is yet but a slip of a girl of twenty. I have taken notice of those in the community to which thee refer, Madame, and I must say, many of them, much ast thee, aire of little note, less intelligence and e'en less consequence.

<<Please, as others have stated...cease, desist, stop. Your foot is coming precariously close to your mouth once again.

~Sidartha>>

Madame, we again come full circle and thine hypocrisy ist showing. Wouldst have it that only thee aire permitted comments, statements and opinions, or that thee hae the authority to instruct anyone to "cease, desist, stop"? Madame, tis seeming that thine foot hast reached thine mouth, do open wide and accomodate it, for thee do look rather foolish in that particular posture. I do believe that may be the fifty third or perhaps fifty fourth time
thee hast instructed someone to hush. Perhaps thee wouldst consider taking a new tack, though in all honesty, thine repetitiveness ist the one constant to which thee may lay valid claim.

Cristian de Oro

I dinna link mischallenges to larceny, Master de Oro, though one ist much like the other, neh? Dishonesty in the case of an improper challenge being permitted to proceed ist much to be likened to the theft of property from the Hall of Heroes; the theft of an honest challenge from another who wast prepared to make such, the theft from the community of the right to expect fair and unbiased treatment for one and all who wouldst seek to issue challenge.

Tis both a tradition and a right that each and every personage who strives to reach the pinnacle should expect that his striving shall be met with nae bias by those who do govern and officiate this ancient sport, ast much ast tis the right of the individuals who make up this diverse community to debate the worth of a challenger, wager upon the outcome of a duel, shout encouragement to their favorites or console the defeated. T'was once nae warlord
feared to place his or her bonafides in view of the community, for the community ast a whole sought to raise itself to the heights. T'was once tradition for the new wearer of a Baron's ring to place his escutcheon or colors upon the banner wall, simple traditons, T'was a time the community ast a whole eschewed to stand in silence whilst neferious deeds took place, nae matter the severity of the misdeed.

Mediocrity breeds mediocrity, Master de Oro, dishonesty breeds dishonesty, bias breeds bias, folly breeds folly and honor flees these halls.

I find no malice in the fact that the Baron Magnus chooses to eschew these ancient halls and meet his challengers elsewhere, had I found malice I wouldst have stated such. Tis I did, however, comment on a few incidents at random, which, were I to list each and every incident, taken together would make a prima facie case for the comment that I find the happenings appalling and the decline saddening. I hae witnessed change, Master de Oro. Indeed,
tis likely I hae witnessed more changes, more traditions aborning than nigh onto annaone who currently frequents the basement. I dinna speak out against change, Master de Oro, but I do speak out against change for the mere sake of change. Should my comments touch the soul of even one I shall be content.

Jonalyn,

First, I would just like to correct you on the misreading of one of my former posts here. Never did I say you link mischallenges to dishonesty. I stated that I find it troubling that you would group mischallenges and dishonesty into the same category as wanting to duel on the Island of Magic. As reprehensible as the first two may be, never does a sword duel on the Island of Magic ever edge close to dishonorable.
Second, just as it is tradition and right that every duelist 'who strives to reach the pinnacle should expect his striving shall be met with nae bias by those who do govern...', so too should it be a right that they shall meet with no bias by those that also partake in the sport. Their peers. However, unfortunately, there are biases left and right in these rings... you have committed bias, perhaps it was bred from the bias of others, perhaps
others have bred bias from you. Should you wish to question that statement, contact me privately and we shall discuss my view and your view of bias at length, for I would rather not discuss such things through a piece of paper.
Lastly, I do not pretend to know the details of the moving of this match to the Island of Magic, but you yourself stated that the Baron was to move the match to the Island of Magic in memory of his mother. Forgive me, Jonalyn, but I do not see 'change for the sake of change' in this gesture. I find this a very welcome change of tradition. Perhaps it is the hatred reverbeating through the dueling Arena that has so lowered the lofty ideals of this
sport... I'm sure many would welcome the opportunity to get away from the stuffiness of the Arena, where one can feel the tension in the air, to the Island of Magic. Though I have never been, I hear it is quite the sight. Allow the Baron his duel without the touch of biasness toward the older traditions... in the end, it adds no credit to your case other than being something new added to the old.
