M'lord Oakenshield,

Forgive me, I respectfully disagree with you. I was aware of the baron's invalid challenge. I have seen this, at best, to be a grievous error and honestly believe the baron meant no slight in his haste. Baron Cletus has always been most honorable. I can only find fault with the mistake made by him and others. I wholeheartedly believe in sanctions stronger than those imposed, to deter this from occurring in the future. While his challenge was
indeed in error, I duly respect any man's reasons for challenging as their own. Please understand I've never cast judgement based solely upon alignment, m'lord...I personally feel a baron's (or baroness') honor and virtuous character, or lack thereof, be taken in serious
consideration, of and above his (or her) alignment to the Overlord.

Respectfully,
Lady Noelle Medici-Giovanni

Folks,

We have a very cut and dried situation here. Magnus has 4 defenses under his belt, has proven his merit, and has basically shown himself in skill to be 'worthy.' Likewise, he is a good man, he duels with honor, and he conducts himself with merit. Seems like no reason to Test him, policy or not.
Of course, Dal is within his rights to Test anyone he so chooses. Justified or not. This is one of the perqs of being Overlord. Everyone knows my point of view on the Test, namely that I think it is wrong in at least 2 out of 3 situations. It won't surprise anyone when I say that it would be wrong to Test Magnus now. However, Dal is perfectly within his rights to do as he sees fit.
I would, however, like to offer my blade to the Baron in case he is Tested. He is a friend of mine, and a worthy challenger.

<< however how do you know you have the best swordsman wearing the crown if you don't put him to the test?>>

To that, Dal proves it in the rings, and often. Also, even though he has used champions how many times has Dal defeated challengers on his own? More then I would ever hope to. Also, as pertaining to Noelle's and Jeff's argument: Honor is something that is earned. Something that takes time. While Cletus is defanetly no newbie, and I mean no disrespect, but he has not been here long enough, in my opinion, to establish his
honor. Nor Magus. I'm not Saying that they are dishonorable, I'm just saying that honor is not something to be taken for granted. And in my mind, neither one of them has done an outstanding deed for me to lable them "honorable". Of course, it doesnt take a "honorable deed" to establish honor, it is merely the way you act in everyday life. Now, I dont know these two, or their family, so I cant make a judge of their honor.
However, Cletus did challenge right after Dal's victory over Dae. That in my mind, while not dishonorable, is very inconsiderate. But I digress. G'luck Magus, I hope Dal doesnt test you so he can show everyone that he can stomp people without a champion.
Sincerely,

Are ye aware his brother Cletus issued invalid challenge not but a few hours after Dalamar's defense against Daegarth?

Aye Jeff, a simple mistake. Is a man not allowed a mistake? I was informed by someone prior to my doing this that it was legal to do. I also looked at the precident set by Lord Draven and figured that if it was legal for him to do it, then likewise it would be for myself.

Cletus screwed up and Magnus is dere ta take da attention offa it.

Acutally he has been planning to do this for sometime now. He did not do this to take the attention away from my mishap.

but don't assume his honor was passed on in da family gene pool.

For one mistake I am dishonorable?? Interesting...

M'Lady Noelle,

Your pardon, M'lady, yet tis nae excuse for anna what hae reached the rank of warlord to fail to abide by the rules of engagement when issuing challenge. Tis Unagi sama's recent challenge wast denied for such "error", though, ast we aire aware, certain personages have, unlawfully, been permitted to press invalid challenges, one of whom currently retains a Baron's ring. T'was also Master Zen Rising wast stripped of his ring by the Council for his
failure to carry out e'en the minimal duties of his station.

Here thee have a Baron whose respect for the community ist such he dinna e'en deign to face his challengers upon the ancient sands of the dueling house rings, but hies off to the Isle of Twilight. This self same Baron castigates the Overlord for raising blade in defense of his loyals, when at the same time, this Baron raised his own blade on behalf of challenging warlords. He clearly states he opposes the right of intercession, yet he takes
advantage of the selfsame right he opposes. He ist opposed to Dalamar calling forth a champion, yet he hast stood ast champion himself on behalf of challenging warlords. Thou wilt pardon me if I find more than a hint of hypocrisy in that stance. I sincerely doubt that Baron Magnus has the vaguest notion of what Lord Dalamar stands for, yet he opposes his stance. I sincerely doubt the Baron Magnus hast the vaguest notion what these ancient rings
stand for, that is clear in that he choses to duel his challenges elsewhere.

The Baron hast stated, finally, that he wishes to prove the skills of his blade. Methinks that is closer to the mark. He wishes to prove himself. He wishes the title, nothing more, nothing less. He wishes it.

There are no dishonorable challenges, only dishonorable challengers. If this is the best thing this Baron hast done in a while, I for one, would nae wish to know his worst. He ist but of that simple mindset which seems to permeate the basement more and more of late. Let us not forget that Dalamar has proven his blade against this Baron time and time again. The road to the mantle should not be eased for anyone, least of all a Renegade who seeks to
topple the Overlord simply because he considers this to be the best thing he has done in a while.

Jona,

First off, is there something wrong with the Twilight Island? Is the portal not just upstairs from the Arena? You attack Magnus for dueling there, when you don't know his reasons for it. He duels there to honor our mother, a mage. Hm...seems to me that most here say that one's parents come above dueling, but Magnus is honoring his mother and fufilling his obligations as a Baron all at the same time.

Second, you call him a hypocrite. Isn't he doing just what he says, opposing the test? By championing Warlords, he is going to the ring to see that the test is done away with. Do you just opose the test by saying "I don't like it." Everyone here says if you have a problem with something, or someone, take it to a ring. That is just what he is doing, taking his problem with the test into a ring...trying to even the odds, if you will, for the
challenger.

In my opinion, based on what I know, and this is mainly towards Jona:
Cletus, while you state he has issued an invalid challenge, was because of a huge discrepancy in the rules. Cletus, who issued challenge after Dal had won, had the fact brought upon him later that a challenge is not considered complete until it is posted in the standings. While that is written in the rules, the fact that an overlord cannot face a que, is omitted (unless I misread it). If you expect someone to know a rule that is not written,
then I cannot agree. In regards to the people you are referring to, they knew the rules and those rules are the main causes for forfeitures/invalid challenge. There is not one time, as far as I can remember, there being mention of an overlord not having a que.
In regards to Magnus. He is honorable, in my eyes. You may not like the fact that he duels on the Island, and that's your right to. I don't think that barons should sit down and let someone else fight for them on their first defense (at least), and I make my proclivities known.
With all due respect, while you think Magnus has no idea what he stands for, I think it would be fair to surmise that you may not know what Magnus stands for.
And, in my honest, if not obvious opinion... I hope Magnus wins, for he'd be a fine overlord.
Simply,

"while you state he has issued an invalid challenge, was because of a huge discrepancy in the rules."

There is no discrepancy, least of all "huge;" you simply chose not to read carefully.

"the fact that an overlord cannot face a que, is omitted (unless I misread it)"

No, it is not omitted, you are still choosing to not read what is quite plainly at your disposal to study. Since this is so hard for you to take the time to do, and since you seem to have forgotten that Bridgette pointed out the relevant sections to you, here they are again.

From the Challenge portion of the rules, item one, it says, emphasis mine:

"1. Challenges to the Overlord are subject to the "Universal Terms of
Challenge" (see above) and may only be made once per cycle per
qualified duelist where not specifically addressed within these rules."

If you follow directions ["(see above)"], you find under the UTC, emphasis mine:

"Where not specifically addressed all challenges are first come - first served. With the exception of challenges to Renegade & Neutral Barons (see below), only the first challenge is considered vital and all others are void based on Date/Time stamp of e-mails received by the Standings Keeper and the duelist challenged. This means there are no queues of challenges. "

The UTC further explains what is meant by a completed challenge:

"A challenge is not considered complete until the results are posted in the Standings."

This is really not so difficult to understand, Var, if you take the time to actually read what is there and know where it is.

If a person such as Magnus opposes another's usage of champions, then s/he should refrain from becoming a champion themselves. If you oppose champions, and find that if one who uses them is dishonorable, then Magnus, not only are you dishonorable for being a champion, you are saying your brother is dishonorable, for he chose another to champion him. If you think it is acceptable for you to not follow your
own code you demand in others, then you are being hypcrotical, it does not matter what excuses you trot out to justify the behavior.

I think the real issue here is that Magnus does not like to see Dalamar use champions or to champion others, making his complaint one of very specific proportions and implicitly personal. He clearly thinks it is acceptable for everyone else to champion however they see fit. It is unbecoming for Magnus to couch his personal problems with one man in such a general manner, when they really do not apply generally at all. It is really rather
deceptive.

Morgan,

First off, I do oppose the intercession and champions. How do I speak out against this unless I do something about it? I chose to become a champion myself to face Dal in the ring and to try and stop the intercession from commencing. This makes me a hypocrite?

He clearly thinks it is acceptable for everyone else to champion however they see fit.

Please, tell me what else I'm thinking.

While I really don't have any problems with Magnus saying this, I can see why he would be a hypocrite in this situation.

Magnus, no matter what your intentions are, you are being a hypocrite when taking up arms as a champion. Your intentions are honorable, in a way, but you must suffer the effects of championing another. It is unavoidable and unchangable. Just admit it and move on. If anything say "Yes I am a hypocrite, but it was a sacrifice I had to take in order to see that justice was done." Or something along those lines.

Though I must say, this has been some good reading. Keep it up, y'all!

How is it dishonorable or hypocritical for someone who opposes Intercession to step in and even the odds? The most common reason for objection to the Test or Intercession is the belief that a title holder should face his/her challengers directly and alone. There is nothing dishonorable about opposing the Intercession or the Test for this reason. And if this is one's reason for opposing the Test or the Intercession, how is it dishonorable to
attempt to level the playing field? It seems to me that enabling the challenger to face the defender evenly and fairly is an honorable act, not a dishonorable one. It also seems that the logic in calling it dishonorable or hypocritical is seriously flawed.
Simply and easily, if one thinks that a defender should defend their own title, one has every duty to do their best to make the defender do just that. This is, in fact, why Renegade Barons have this privelege. To even the odds. Which is an act of honest sportsmanship.
