I attended a mighty fine ceremony last evening for New Mountainside's armed forces, where an Officer of the Year award was give out.
This Officer was voted in by his peers and finalized by myself and the Queen.
I must say, I enjoyed observing the process, was quite the moral lifter.
Just curious, out of those who frequent the rings enough to familiarize yourself with the 'regulars'... who would you pick as 'Duelist of the Year'? This would be the male/female/it who has played a key role in the community in your eyes for the entire year, or most of it, anyway.
Whether that key role was washing dishes between duels or just a consistant role in politics, or role away from politics.
I'm still debating on my choice, I've only been here for about half of the year, but I think I know most of the duelers enough to name someone a bit later.
Let's see some constructive posts, peoples.

Interesting......I think that I'll need to think on this one. What criteria Roland? Best WoL?
Most defenses? Fastest rise? Longest reign as an Overlord/Baron? Best all-around skill pound for pound? Most impact on the Dueling community? Best breath? Too much to choose from, and we will run into two problems.
One: A lot of duelers are going to most humbly nominate..themselves. But hey...some will do it as a joke, and there's no problem here with that. It'll add levity to a very tense arena.
Two: What I'm looking less forward to is when this voting will get serious. That's...when it will get ugly. And yes, I can see this getting serious. There's enough egos in the dueling community to make it downright heated. So.....I'm not voting as of right now. No matter who I say....I will come under fire. :::puts on goggles and gets behind his shield....for this will be hairy::;

Thing about Magnus is, well, I wouldn't call him the duelist of the year simply because he has just recently turned up the juice. If there was a Duelist of the Fall or something, he'd be a likely candidate.

I would have ta say Baron Seamus MacDonnaugh, for numerous reasons... He's an active duelist of great skill and honor... He's active in the DoS community outside of the rings as well. I'm sure that any who have had tha pleasure of reading the Duely Noted can attest ta that. Also.. and perhaps formost... he's a man with a heart of gold. He's helped those two little scamps that sell the DN on the corner a new shot at
life... their family as well. He's helped others in RhyDin as well... As well as his just being a good soul... Definately... Seamus MacDonnaugh...

However, Dalamar is my first choice. '97 was only good for him in the second half. '98 he made it through all the way, and had some very tough competition.
Magnus has done very well, and defeated some good competition as well, but not nearly on the level as Dal. If the challenge match between them is before the new year, I'll give my "vote" to whoever wins it.

Even though we haven't heard a lot from him lately, and even though he's ticked off just about everyone at one time or another, I'd have to nominate my friend Evan. Who else has gotten so many people thinking over the past year? If had the energy to think right now, I'd name all the rules and regulations that were "modified" for him. He gave the DoS a lot of "firsts" this year, and he even did the baron thing for a little while. Besides that,
he's a cool guy, and he's married to Lexi... I mean c'mon now.

Well, I may not have been around that much lately, but I still know who's who. The man that I choose can be best described in two words, other than being the best with the sword I know, and those words are "short" and "chubby." So, obviously I choose Jeffrey Oakenshield.
