Letter of Intent to Challenge.

Post by DoS Archive » Mon Sep 20, 2004 10:23 am

Baron Var Medici-Giovanni.

After numerous attempts, both private and public, to settle the matter between the two of us... I have grown weary of your ignoring of my letters.
If you will not listen to me in a personal forum of discussion, then mayhaps you will find it more difficult to ignore an official notice.

I, the Lady Drakewyn Anastasia Alabaster Silvertree, do here-by Issue my Intent to Challenge you for the Tenth Baron's Ring that you bear at this time.
Due to the fact that I am, at this time, still with child... I am unable to press forward with this challenge. As, according to the Universal Terms of Challenge, I will most likely still be with child by the time the match is required to be fought.
Therefore, let this stand notice of my intentions.

Let it also be known that, as before, I in no way expect this to deter others from pressing challenges of their own... save for those who would see the value I place on this matter of personal honor between the Baron and I.

I will await the actual day of issuance before I place my bonifides upon this message board... though surely none can claim I lack the proper amount of wins.

Until that day...

Lady Drake, aka the Gryphon (On vacation.)

Drake,
You'll just be waiting longer and longer. Don't think that by issuing challenge I'll suddenly bow down and offer explanation just to keep the baron's ring.
If, by some chance, I do choose to explain (though this action to grab attention is truly disappointing), it won't be until after the challenge.
And to be honest, I have all the time in the world and enough patience to wait. I also have enough dignity to refrain from cowering behind words to keep a title. I await the official notice.
Humbly,

You know,

I expect this sort of answer from you, Var. You have alot of gall to call Drake a coward. I dare say, what Words does she cower behind? In the words of your leash holder, you're an insufferable whelp. When Drake does make the challenge official. Rest assured I will be there personally on hand to watch you hand over the Tenth Barons Ring to Drake. For she is far more honorable than you were. I don't know what happened to you, Var, but you
used to be someone likeable. Now I don't know what you are. First you insult the entire House with your words, now you directly call one of my best friends a coward for standing behind her convictions.

Well, for someone who claims to hold to his own convictions, I guess that makes you a coward as well.

Better practice.

Your opinion is your's, G, though I said *I* would not cower behind words to retain the ring. That means I will not give into Drake's cry of attention just to keep the ring. This is to reinforce the fact that there is absolutely no chance of Drake getting an explanation before the challenge. I wasn't calling Drake a coward.
But I will practice with my words, if you promise to practice with your reading comprehension.

Being one of the 'mindless clones' of HDT, I figure that I should take this moment to fall behind the party line immediately. So I will open by saying that since (and possibly including) you declared your alignment as Renegade, Var, you have made a series of terribly bad judgements each worse than the last. Their result seems to be that the good qualities I once admired and respected in you have been suborned by the crass, ill mannered, jingoism
that I tried to overlook.
That said, I have to say that I disapprove of some of the more personally insulting remarks that G made in his above post. However, I know where he is coming from. He probably feels, as Drake does, personally betrayed by someone he considered a friend. I wonder why he feels that way?
Frankly, I must resoundingly support Drake's challenge. To use a phrase I would normally avoid save in the most extreme circumstances, you have been asking to have your head handed to you for some time now.

You'll just be waiting longer and longer. Don't think that by issuing challenge I'll suddenly bow down and offer explanation just to keep the baron's ring.

Translation: You'll just have to wait. I won't be frightened into explaining [the matter] just to keep you from making an official challenge for my ring.

If, by some chance, I do choose to explain (though this action to grab attention is truly disappointing), it won't be until after the challenge.

Translation: If I do choose to explain [the matter] it will be by my choice and after the official challenge is made by you.

And to be honest, I have all the time in the world and enough patience to wait. I also have enough dignity to refrain from cowering behind words to keep a title. I await the official notice.

Translation: I will wait patiently until after you have delivered your child for you to make the official challenge. I will not lower myself, nor act the coward, by offering the explanation [of the matter] just to keep my title. I await your official challenge.

Interpretation: Var referred to himself as not being frightened by the intent to challenge. He did not accuse Drake of hiding behind words.

Let's see, shall we?

Drake, having been insulted by your letter when leaving HDT, sent you a personal missive with a few inquries. Her letter was ignored. And, by my understanding, Drake tried to resolve this many times without resorting to challenging. Repeatedly ignoring her simple questions that I'm sure someone of your well read breeding could understand, she finally decided, after much deliberation, to take it to a
more public venue. By ignoring her, you've added more insult than your initially degrading letter to the entire House you were once a part of.

Now, because she is finally calling you out, you say she's making a cry of attention. Well, maybe she is, after all, you're an expert on that sort of thing. However, I, and I am sure the vast majority in the dueling hall, would be inclined to disagree. I am certain they would see it as an act of Honor, as you've been the one to cast the first, second, and many more insults.

If I sound crude, or even insulting to you, It's probably because you deserve it.

And personally, I don't think you have what it takes to explain to Drake your reasonings behind what you've done. At least not without clearing it first.

I still am,

One more thing,
Percival, you have a lot of gall. You act kind and nice for a long time (since I sent the letter to the house) then in this thread you give yourself the title of "mindless clone" as if you took the letter to the house personally.
Honestly, your opinion towards me is fine, you're entitled to that. However, was it not you who got mad at Roland for not being upfront with him? That's what bothers me. You can think I have made bad judgements all you want, but you know how much time has passed since Noelle and I left the house? Enough time for you to ask, if you doubted.
I have made remarks towards many people, and not one time do I regret my words. I'd think you wouldn't regret being honest as well, but it looks like the timing of your honest matches with when it's most appealing.

And to the translator, excellent translation, though I said "I have all the time" mainly because I'm not the one pressing for anything. Drake can challenge whenever she pleases, with or without being pregnant, most people know I "tap" when I strike. However, you understood that I felt no threat by the intent, which is the subject.

>>Percival, you have a lot of gall.<<

Yes, I do. I thought everyone knew this by now.

>>You can think I have made bad judgements all you want, but you know how much time has passed since Noelle and I left the house? <<

I told you when you left I thought you were making a mistake. I am sure that you will remember if you think long enough. I also believe I told you about other things that were said to me that I didn't have to. Because I considered you a friend.

>> I'd think you wouldn't regret being honest as well, but it looks like the timing of your honest matches with when it's most appealing.<<

I have always been honest with you. We have often disagreed and I have often told you. Likewise, I have often let into you when I thought you were out of line. This is one time of many. The difference is whether or not I still consider you a friend. I have been watching. First Dal, then Jaycy, then G and Drake. It really makes me wonder. Which friend of yours is your next target?

> First Dal, then Jaycy, then G and Drake. It really makes me wonder. Which friend of yours is your next target?<

Hmm, I guess because they were my friends I should keep my foot in my mouth? I suppose that means you should have kept quiet if you considered me a friend. But here you are, speaking your words out. That's fine, really. However, don't expect me to be quiet in regards to my friends when you don't do such. I hold my own opinion and morals, as do you.

But my next "target"? I don't know, Percival. Like Drake's challenge to me, I'll just have to wait and see, and I have all the time in the world.
I'm not afraid of disclosing the truth. But Drake's intent has delayed it even more. Because I know if I say anything, she won't challenge, and I'd be selling my soul to keep a ring on my finger. She knows she won't get any information now, for she's already issued intent. I was surprised to see that Drake would go this far, but I plan to meet the match honorably. I don't plan to sell out just to keep a finger adorned with a baron's ring.
I don't know who agrees or disagrees with me, but everyone can think what they want. I'm not applying for anything. I'm stating my opinion. If I think you're an idiot, I can think that, just as anyone can think that about me. Like I said, though, I'm not seeking to gain anything. I'm simply aspiring to defend what I have. I have a family I love. I will defend their honor, their life, the baron's ring...
So you cast all the opinions, insults, or ideas you want. I plan to defend the ring with honor, and I plan to never shame my family. In my house there is a family I love with all my heart. That's where I stand. That's where I'll stand.

Lady Drakewyn Anastasia Alabaster Silvertree

Madame, this ist the second time thou hast placed upon this corkboard an "intent" to challenge. The first wast after thee had seemingly come to a private agreement with the Baron thou didst then seek to challenge.

There is nothing in the least "official" about placing upon this corkboard a notice of "intent" to challenge, beyond what appears to be merely an attempt to gain sympathy. Indeed, by going so far ast to declare that thou art enciente, thee aire blatantly using thine condition ast an excuse for being unable to present an "official" challenge.

In me opinion, thou art merely attempting to place the Baron in a position ast to seem to be disrespectful to a pregnant lass. Madame, thou art doing ought but hiding behind thine skirts and thine expanding belly, and in that, thou art behaving in a cowardly manner. Thine attempt to coerce the Baron into discussing a matter which he hast, apparently, disdained to discuss with thee, appears to be little more than a case of feminine pique, perhaps
exacerbated by the hormonal changes brought about by thine condition.

Well... I have nothing against any of you. And I am NOT gonna say anything to get anyone off their wrocker and attack. Actually, i'd like to see both of you in a ring and beat the living daylights out of each other (Even though I like both of you, I just like watching people hit each other.). All I can say, Var is more heavily in my mind and I'd rather him keep the ring. Go Var, sorry Drake.

Madame Jona,

I can assure you that Drake knows quite well that this is the second time she's issued intent to challenge. I also can assure you that she is well aware that this is nothing "Official" And that someone else could possibly issue a challenge before her Official one. This is definately not a cry to gain sympathy, as you seem to be so quick to judge. Perhaps sometime you should sit and calmly discuss, perhaps with me, what this is about.

And what is so wrong with Drake not issuing an official challenge because of her condition? Maybe she's a little more concerned with the child she is with than she is with fighting and taking risk on harming her child before she's born, despite the Ward of Gondar which is proven to not work in Every case. I find her choice to wait until after the birth to be a very good reason on holding, because if she was confident that absolutely no harm would
come to the child, then she would likely have issued the official challenge as opposed to the intent.

That's not an excuse, that's common sense.

As for Drake trying to place the Baron in a position of disrespect to a pregnant lass, The Baron was disrespectful even before she was pregnant. Again, I can more than assure you that she is Not hiding behind anything at all. And anyone who knows Drake, even you, should know that Drake is far from cowardly.

As for what you say about her trying to coerce the Baron being a result of hormonal conditions, Well, The Baron had brought this on himself a long time ago when he insulted the Entire House I run. He simply continued to insult Drake when he refused to answer simple inquiries.

Do you not get angry when you are ignored, Jona? Or do you just smile and laugh and act like nothing is wrong? This has been going on for some time. And I stand behind Drake, a true friend, 110%.

I see nothing wrong with her intent of challenge. If you wish to discuss this further, I am easily accessable to converse with you. Feel free to contact me.

Ah well, maybe it was because I insulted "the entire house" (your words) that you told Drake to challenge me? This would be what, the second time? Or are there others you've recently encouraged to issue challenge, as well?
But that's beside the point. Any explanation I choose to offer to Drake won't be till after the challenge. I guess only time will tell.

As usual, Var. You get ahead of yourself. I in -no- way told Drake to challenge you. And when I suggested to Percival about it after you left, I did so purely in jest. You might want to ask around to see if I asked others to challenge you. But I can already tell you you'll come up empty.

So you know for the record. I did not tell Drake to challenge you. It was purely her choice and decision as a result of your personal insults to her. If you doubt me, which I am oh so sure you do, then feel free to ask her. Course, I doubt you will.
