If you told others to challenge me, that's fine, G. If you weren't kidding to Percival about challenging me, that's fine too.
However, I won't be jumping around asking X this and Y this or that. You posted your words on the boards here. That means you're telling the truth or you're willing to compromise your respect by lying. I won't judge either way. I wonder though, where I "jumped ahead of myself" when you assumed I was calling Drake a coward early this morning. Is this an attempt to insult?
Either way, that's up to you, just as how I respond is up to me too.

My assumption was taken due to a casual misreading of your words. Your jumping ahead of yourself is accusing me of doing something which I have not done. Simply put, I read something that was said and misinterperated it. You pulled something from out of nowhere and tried to use it as an attempt to make me look bad, namely saying I am trying to have House members go after you.
There's a difference.

You know, it makes me wonder about people who think that a woman would "hide" behind her pregnancy and use her condition as an "excuse". I, for one, consider it a damn good reason for not issuing challenge, even though she wants to.

Challenge him and be done with it!
You know as well as I, Var would never harm a woman, let alone a woman with child.

Noelle,
While I am sure that Var wouldn't harm Drake, or any woman physically, He has already done so with his words, or lack thereof. I, personally am shocked that you're surprised of this. Considering you received copies of the same letters that Var received.
Perhaps you should sit and discuss this with Lady Drakewyn?

Nah, G, they couldn't do this. After all they fuss, bother, and insults they have thrown at everyone they can't. They think they would lose too much face by doing the right thing. So they are too proud to do it. It is what happens when people who confuse arrogance with honor get into a disagreement with someone.

Percy,
I don't know fully what has happened, nor do I wish to interfear with something that has little to do with me, but I don't think that further attacking Var is anyway to go at this. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not drawing lines in the sand. I consider both of you friends, but I don't like to see someone challenge for being attacked, then go and attack someone else.

That's right, you don't. Var chose to make statements he should have made privately on a public board. Then he chose to take pot shots at people when they told him he was out of line. He chose to deliberately hurt Drake, G, and others, for very petty reasons. Then he chose not to explain to Drake why he chose to hurt her.
When she finally got tired of it and challenged, he chose to make some rather inflammatory remarks. The simple fact is, He has been acting on the offensive for some time now. He is not the one under attack here. He is facing the consequences of a series of very foolish and erratic choices, culminating in stabbing friends in the back. When people choose to do that, they have to be prepared for their former friends to be angry.

Gnort,
If I am nae mistaken, Madame Silvertree didst write, "...then mayhaps you will find it more difficult to ignore an official notice." If the lady ist aware there be nae annathing official about her placing an intent to challenge upon this corkboard, then, may I ask why she wouldst e'en bother?
I made nae statement atall with regard to there being anything wrong with Madame Silvertree nae wishing to challenge whilst in her condition. Indeed, 'twould be, to me mind, utter folly. However, since Madame Silvertree seems to know when her bairn ist expected, I must wonder that she hae e'en presented this missive before the public, unless tis indeed her attempt to place the Baron in a poor light before the community before she issues an official
challenge.
Gnort, tis nae an insult for someone to refuse to answer a question. I hae in past refused to answer questions, and been insulted for doing so. Indeed, I hae taken note of those of whom I hae asked questions that hae nae been answered, but ne'er to I take insult if me questions aire ignored. I am nae so easily angered.
Tis the Baron's right to refuse to answer Madame Silvertree, or for that matter, to refuse to answer annaone, e'en shouldst he choose ta his ladywife, though in that case I do believe the Baron might properly find himself sorely beset. The Lady Silvertree ist simply displaying her pique at his refusal, couching it in terms of a matter of personal honor.
If memory serves, M'lord and M'lady Medici-Giovanni choose to depart thine house. Madame Silvertree took umbrage. Tis a matter for thee and thine House. Madame Silvertree hast seemingly chosen to castigate the Baron publicly o'er the matter of his refusal to answer her question, and is indeed, hiding behind her skirts and her expanding belly with what, had it been presented by a male, wouldst hae been little more than what I hae heard termed ast
"grandstanding".
Tis quite simple, if the Lady Silvertree feels her personal honor insulted, then she shouldst wait until she is recovered fully, then issue official challenge and nae make these attempts to gain sympathy aforehand using her gender and her delicate condition. If the Lady Silvertree felt the Baron wast disrespectful before she became enciente, I must ponder why she dinna bring challenge unto the Baron at that time.

::Drake sat in the overstuffed chair her Father had given her as a Winter Solstice gift... attempting, with little success, to learn the art of knitting. After a few moments, her attention was caught by her half-brother, who was delivering copies of the various posts placed in regards to her letter of intent. Setting aside her 'knitting', she perused the missives for more than an hour, making note of the points raised
by each and every person... after all, she wasn't getting around nearly as well as she used to and she didn't relish the idea of Talmiurian having to deliver multiple letters to the board. After serious consideration, she wrote down her own thoughts and responses and had Tal deliver the notice for all to see.::
To Each who have responded to my posting, or to the posting of another concerning this matter... I shall answer each of you separately, though some responses shall apply to many people's words.
Baron Var Medici-Giovanni.
If wait I must, then wait I shall. Though it seems passing strange that, in your first reply you say, "If, by some chance, I do choose to explain, it won't be until after the challenge." then in a later post say, "I'm not afraid of disclosing the truth. But Drake's intent has delayed it even more. Because I know if I say anything, she won't challenge, and I'd be selling my soul to keep a ring on my finger." Which is it? Will
you explain or won't you? If your decision is weighted by the fact that I may or may not challenge, do not let that stop you. I am a woman of my word. If I submit a letter of intent, be assured that I will challenge... unless you are no longer in possession of a ring.
In a later post, you say, "Drake can challenge whenever she pleases, with or without being pregnant, most people know I "tap" when I strike." This isn't a case of how hard you will or won't strike. All humor intended, I'm a much bigger target right now, and nowhere near as light on my feet.
In another post, you state, "Hmm, I guess because they were my friends I should keep my foot in my mouth?" Friends try to work things out between each other in private discussion before 'airing their laundry' before the world. Perhaps none of us would feel betrayed if you didn't -seem- to just wake up suddenly and decide to cast away your friendship with each of us in turn.
In that same post you state, "I was surprised to see that Drake would go this far, but I plan to meet the match honorably." So, just how many times did you expect me to ask? How many times did you expect me to inquire about a matter with I -know- I made clear as to how much of a personal affront I felt it to be?
In a further post, you state, "Ah well, maybe it was because I insulted "the entire house" (your words) that you told Drake to challenge me?" Do not -dare- insinuate that this has anything to do with anyone but yourself and myself, as should have been obvious by the string of messages and notes to you I have sent... without response.
Finally, and most telling to me, you state, "I plan to defend the ring with honor, and I plan to never shame my family. In my house there is a family I love with all my heart. That's where I stand. That's where I'll stand." How many times in discussion of the Jade Gryphons did I call us a 'family'? How many times did I show my trust and faith in you? How often did Baron G'nort call House Dragoon-Talanador more of a family or a
gathering of friends than a "House"?
I know you would never turn your back on your family... didn't I once discuss that very matter with Noelle when she had a crisis of confidence? -That-, dear Baron, is what made this so personal a matter. The fact that you would turn your back on -our- friendship and disdain any attempt at repairing it.
Baron Gnort Espelande G'neesmacher Dragoon-Talandor.
I do not believe Baron Var referred to me as a coward, though he did -seem- to refer to me as a whiner, solely out to get attention.
I thank you for responding to my defence the past day... If I had nothing to do but stand, or sit, near the message board, waiting to respond to every word said to/about me, I might do just that... but with a young daughter spending half of each week with me, a new baby on the way, and a wife who's constantly fussing over me, I cannot.
Duc Percival Marchand de Clermont.
Thank you for your personal missive, as well as your words of support here. I understand the difficulties of having two people you consider friends at odds, and admire the fact that you haven't -quite- stooped to name-calling... By the way, I'm just kidding you.
Lady Jonalyn Starfare.
Despite my earlier resolve to not be drawn into debate with you, it seems you will not leave well enough alone... therefore...
You state, "Madame, this ist the second time thou hast placed upon this corkboard an "intent" to challenge. The first wast after thee had seemingly come to a private agreement with the Baron thou didst then seek to challenge." In further posts I would have you refer to me as 'Your Grace', or 'Your Ladyship'... thought I do not push it upon others, I am a Grand Duchess, and if you wish to address me, I would request you do so in strict
formallity and courtesy. As for your statement, I am well aware of what I have done in the past... why do you feel the need to bring it up?
You go on to state, "There is nothing in the least "official" about placing upon this corkboard a notice of "intent" to challenge, beyond what appears to be merely an attempt to gain sympathy. Indeed, by going so far ast to declare that thou art enciente, thee aire blatantly using thine condition ast an excuse for being unable to present an "official" challenge." This has -nothing- to do with sympathy, as I -clearly- stated in my letter
of intent. Are you not the one who complains that too few WarLords are willing to place notice upon this board of their challenge? As for using my condition as an "excuse" for not challenging... Lady Starfare, I -am- challenging. I am merely using my condition as an "excuse" for delaying the actual challenge date. As I posted above... it's simply a fact that dueling whilst pregnant is hardly an option.
You then state, "In me opinion, thou art merely attempting to place the Baron in a position ast to seem to be disrespectful to a pregnant lass. Madame, thou art doing ought but hiding behind thine skirts and thine expanding belly, and in that, thou art behaving in a cowardly manner." I -am- placing the Baron in a position of appearing disrespectful to me. As the Baron G'nort stated, this occured before my pregnancy became obvious, but
not before it occured. In addition, I shall be returning to the dueling arenas in a short time... call me a coward to my face then, if you chose. But do -not- call me a coward at a time when you -know- I will not act against you in the interests of the safety of my child.
In closing, you state, "Thine attempt to coerce the Baron into discussing a matter which he hast, apparently, disdained to discuss with thee, appears to be little more than a case of feminine pique, perhaps exacerbated by the hormonal changes brought about by thine condition." As the Baron himself has noticed... this is no longer a matter for discussion. In my opinion, as the one insulted, we have gone past that stage.
WarLord Jake Heart.
An interesting observation... I also understand your wish to stand by Baron Var, though not your motivations as I do not know you.
Baron Gimzak Stonecutter.
If I was trying to get anyone's attention, it was Var's... appears to have worked, neh?
Lady Sidartha Elgarette.
Thank you for allowing me the chance to respond with this statement...
It should be -quite clear- that I would be issuing a full challenge to the Baron if it were not for my current pregnancy.
Lady Noelle Medici-Giovanni.
You write, "Challenge him and be done with it! You know as well as I, Var would never harm a woman, let alone a woman with child."
If it were that simple, I would do so. However, as I have stated on -numerous- occasions, the Ward of Gondor reacts oddly with my own healing abilities... as I discovered in a recent duel with WarLord Shadowsiv, the Ward also seems to react oddly with my unborn daughter.
In addition, as a woman who has been pregnant as often as you have, you should be quite aware of how much more difficult certain actions are when pregnant. How fair would I be to myself or to my unborn daughter if I dueled in this condition and lost? It's clear that some seed of the idea that I lost because I was pregnant would be in my mind, which would be terribly detrimental to my child's well being.... something I cannot have happen.
In closing,
Let me re-iterate... This is a Letter of Intent, not an actual challenge. As I -clearly- stated, I do not expect to disuade any who feel the need to challenge the Baron Var Medici-Giovanni. I only ask that they measure my own desire to challenge the Baron against their own. If they still wish to challenge, then they should do so.
The -sole- reason I do not press forward with a challenge now is the safety of my unborn daughter. Any who perceive this as cowardice can "hie themselves to Kent", as my Father would say... for that is a foolish notion indeed.
For those that read this, I thank you for your time.
The Lady Drakewyn Anastasia Alabaster Silvertree,
Grand Duchess of Haaristad.
The Gryphon.

formallity and courtesy.

>>Tis quite simple, if the Lady Silvertree feels her personal honor insulted, then she shouldst wait until she is recovered fully, then issue official challenge and nae make these attempts to gain sympathy aforehand using her gender and her delicate condition. <<
This from a woman who, rather over dramatically, insinuated that a shield that never actually touched her was an attempt by me to harm her unborn child, even though the magickal training she claims should have told her that such magicks would not hurt her, having never even entered her aura. The hypocrisy and callousness abounds.

Apparantly people are not able to see your letter as what it was and get on with their lives. I don't see how they can see this as any different than if you had posted your intent as many others have over the years on the boards. They would rather you post something as an offhand comment, rather than a clear, concise letter of intent to challenge. Maybe they feel that words like "I'm coming for your ring" in the middle of an unrelated subject is more
"honorable", or some such nonsense, than what you did.
Ah well, perhaps I'm just being senile and insane again.

When people choose to do that, they have to be prepared for their former friends to be angry.<
This is hypocrisy beyond relief. You're calling me arrogant for stating how I feel on the boards, when you make remarks on the boards in turn?
Now I'm not the one issuing intent to challenge because I was being ignored, Percival. That's just plain idiocy by saying I am "deliberately trying to hurt Drake" for petty reasons. Fact is, you're telling Cletus he doesn't know what's going on, when you know equally as much, including the reasons I didn't respond to Drake.
But like I said before, you're just being a hypocrite for saying I stabbed friends in the back for holding an opinion, when you held an opinion as well when I did something you disagree with. In fact, I can recall you saying Noelle and I need to grow up (but because you wanted to appear as some neutral person, unable to take the heat, you said Sartan needed to grow up too). See me accusing you of "stabbing in the back"? I'm not, I'm just
calling you on your own weak attempts to attack (or in your terms, making my past actions consequential, something I knew the moment I posted my words). I'll point someone out who is wrong if I think they are wrong. I won't state an opinion then have a disclaimer to just avoid taking the heat. It would be like saying, "I think you're a dishonorable has-been for killing that beggar, but that beggar didn't leave you alone, so don't get mad at me for
holding an opinion."
But Drake, like I said, I'll tell you when I get the challenge. I plan to give reasons after the challenge is dueled. Not that I don't trust your word of honor, but I have my word of honor I wouldn't give reason till after the challenge (if I choose to do so; however, I probably will give reason).
In regards to "taking it to private" so my (past) friends don't feel so betrayed, what would the point be? Just because you're popular doesn't mean you deserve to be spoken against (make note, Percival, I don't care if you have an insult towards me, but accusing me of "stabbing in the back" is just a weak statement). I think Jaycy's nice, but manners don't justify disregarding rules that are written. She had plenty of time to rectify what I
thought was a mistake. Now, as Percival is saying "I am getting the consequences of bad judgement", so did Jaycy.
When I didn't pat Jaycy on the back for doing what I thought was wrong, Gim and G make snide remarks on the boards, suggesting to everyone because we were in a house, we have to keep our foot in our mouth. That's fine, but expect someone to do something about it if they don't like it.
In response to how much I expected you to write, well, I suppose I can't answer that without justifying my lack of response within, so I am honestly going to have to not answer.
While you may or may not understand why I mentioned the potentiality of G telling you to challenge me, I will take your word for it, as well as G's. You posted the words up on the boards for others to see, thus you know the consequences. However, when someone encourages challenging a former house member (I don't think it was in jest, but I admit I could be wrong), you just tend to question.
>>>Perhaps you should sit and discuss this with Lady Drakewyn?<<
Nah, G, they couldn't do this. After all they fuss, bother, and insults they have thrown at everyone they can't. They think they would lose too much face by doing the right thing. So they are too proud to do it. It is what happens when people who confuse arrogance with honor get into a disagreement with someone.<
Maybe I should ask my youngest daughter, Autumn Destiny, to teach you to read, Percival. In my eye, you sound like a hypocritical twit with sour grapes by writing this when I have said I wouldn't give Drake what she asked for just to protect the rank I hold. I know once someone ticked you off and mentioned intent to challenge for your rank, you would succumb to their words with ten thousand apologies to save yourself from any trouble. I
suppose I am asking too much when I would think you'd understand. Now I have said I would wait till after the challenge to give her the reason, and I will. You don't like it, then there are some things you can do:
1. Nothing
2. What you are doing, voice your opinion about it (what I opt to do)
3. Practice what you preach (Ridiculous, asking it from you) "Take it to the ring"
Simple words from a simple dueler.

>>But like I said before, you're just being a hypocrite for saying I stabbed friends in the back for holding an opinion, when you held an opinion as well when I did something you disagree with.<<
I am not saying you stabbed friends in the back by holding an opinion. I am saying you stabbed friends in the back by allowing your opinions to goad you into personal attacks on them. When I have disagreed with you, in the past, I have tried to explain why I disagreed with you and asked you, as a friend, to consider your choices more thoroughly before you make them. When you have disagreed people you have insulted them, attacked them, and
belittled them. There is a major difference here.
You were entitled to your opinion in each of the cases I mentioned before. However, let me see if I have things correctly here. Firstly, you disagreed with the Loyal Barons and so you announced yourself Renegade. Your right, but a Baron's alignment is supposed to reflect his feelings toward the Overlord, not the the Loyal Barons. I don't believe you ever really stopped and considered what your action meant before you made the decision to act. I
remember urging you to think about how you really felt toward Dalamar before you made such a serioud decision.
Secondly, you were entitled to your opinion regarding Jaycy. However, you chose to express your opinion publicly, in what appeared to certain others as a malicious attack. As a member of the same House as Jaycy, and supposedly as a friend, it was your responsibility to make your statements privately and/or phrase them in a manner that was not condemning or insulting. You failed to do either of these things.
Thirdly, when G'nort, Collie, and Gimm made statements saying they disapproved of a public attack on a House member by a House member, you reacted very badly. You sent insulting, angry private missives to the House, posted selfsame missives on the board, and basically threw a juvenile temper tantrum. You left the House and chose to insult the House as a whole because you were angry with G'nort. You also quit the Jade Gryphons, though you had no
reason to be angry with Drake at all, without explanation and have refused to explain your reasons to her since. Quite frankly, you owe her that explanation. Not to give it is offensive, hurtful, and malicious.
Finally, when she chooses to make her grievance public you belittle her. You, and others, accuse her of hiding behind her pregnancy, trying to make you look bad, and just about everything else you can think of. The problem is, Drake isn't making you look bad. You are doing it yourself. Very well. Without any help from her at all.
This, I believe, an accurate description of events as they ahve happened thus far. You can't disagree without insulting, and I have known that for some time. I have overlooked it because we were friends, though I have often asked you to improve. As I said however, I think I would rather have you for an enemy than for a friend. As an enemy I know I can trust you. It doesn't seem to me like your friends can.
