Here is my take on this.
Phooie.
No insult intended, but if House Talanador acted more as a group of duelers fighting for a cause, such as a dueling House would (gasp!) and not so much assumed everyone in the house are best friends, then this whole situation would make some sense.
Granted that a House full of friends would be grand, but you can't expect that to be the driving and ruling factor in a dueling House. Friends are a more personal matter if you ask me, dueling Houses are political and effect your career in the rings. Whether it through training or just gaining experience or connections from the higher ups.
If there was a rule in House Talanador that said insulting another member in public was something looked down, I must have missed it.
Okay, now to my point: G'nort, Collie, Gim, and anyone else who was in the House who had a problem with Var's actions, should have dissagreed with Var as friends, not House mates. Public or privately. Jaycy and Var should have spoken on the matter and agreed to something. As friends or atleast adults, not House mates. Public or privately.
Now, Var shouldn't have insulted the entire House, just the members whom he thought he should have. Public or privately. If one of those members were either Drakewyn or G'nort, he should have left the House or hashed out an agreement with them. Yet remained friends with those he had no problems with in the House.
Drake still might have pressed challenge, and Var still might have came under insult, but the point of the matter is: This shouldn't be a House matter as Drakewyn stated, it should be personal... but how can it possibly be personal when the events leading up to this have been all House-matters? I can see it now, Pro-Talanador peoples will be rooting for Drakewyn and branding Var a traitor, while Anti-Talanador peoples will be rooting for Var and
putting their faults with House Talanador to bare on Drakewyn, who really isn't at fault there.
Anyway, there's my take on it. You peoples tear it apart before I get back from vacation or I will get some belief that my words actually made sense and action will be taken to prevent it next time.

Roland,
House Dragoon-Talanador is *not* political. Everyone knows where I stand in the scheme of things here. I am anti-Test, anti-Intercession, vigorously disapprove of the actions of several of the more rabid supporters of the Overlord, and have been a political opponent of the Overlord and his supporters at times and have no problem with being one again if I think it necessary. G'nort, on the other hand, is a Loyal Baron, as are Gimmzak and Jaycy.
Collie is more extremely anti-Dal, and Drake is more neutral. We have room for widely differing political stances.
As I see it, HDT is about community, comradeship, and sport. While I do not know all the members of the house personally, I count many of its members as some of my closest friends. Jola Feren is my best friend. G'nort, Gimm, Jaycy, and Marit are close friends. I joined because of these friendships, and I was invited to join because of these friendships. Despite political differences with members.
And, actually, house members insulting each other publicly and attacking each other on the boards *is* considered a violation of house policy as I understand it. One of the very few house policies that exist. For the same reasons I just listed for joining. HDT is meant to be a community within the community. Friendships and sport first, politics left to the personal discretion of the members.
If this does turn into an HDT/Pro-HDT faction against Pro-Var/Anti-HDT faction squabble it won't be about politics. It will be about the way Var chose to air his grievances. To put it simply, HDT's problems with, and certainly my problem's with Var and Darke's challenge to Var, are not political. They are purely personal.

Bah.
Purely personal would leave it to a duel of honor, the loser losing something of value. This has gone into the rings of the Arena not the rings of House Talanador.
And this whole thing, to me, was seen as an inner-political move within the House by Var until it was brought upon the public with intent to challenge.
"Friendships and sport first, politics left to the personal discretion of the members."
I was once told House Talanador tends to be Pro-Dalamar. I actually based a part of my decision on allignment on those words.
This is how I see it: If you want to be a group of friends dueling for a cause, then keep the title House. If you want to be friends, dueling for the love of the sport; leave it at that, or atleast refer to yourself as a Club or something.
Then again, who am I to set the basis for a House? I just know what I would do if I ran a dueling house. Probably the driving factor in my decision not to join any of the current dueling Houses.

This could be said. The leader of the House is certainly pro-Dalamar. So are some members, maybe even most. However, there are those of us who are not. Nor are we mistreated for it, and we do not suffer for it. My political beliefs have not changed since I joined HDT, and no one has tried to change them for me or get me to change them.
As for everything being seen as an 'inner political move by Var', I don't think either you or Is hould speak for him. In my perception, he had personal problems with Jaycy and made them a public matter. This led to personal problems with G and he made them public too. So he got mad at the whole house and took *that* public. So we are all pretty mad. Regardless of politics.

Roland..
My comments to Var have related mostly to allowing his wife to speak on her own behalf. That missive was relayed to the house members, I don't recall saying anything publically. If you notice until you mentioned my name, I stayed out of this.. however, since you have awakened the sleeping bear so to speak, I'll say my piece.
Drake can challenge or announce her intent to challenge anyone she damned well pleases providing she has the required peer wins, etc. If she were a man and did this no one would be prodding her about hiding behind skirts or her expanding belly. Men can't be accused of such, so more creative reasons must be found.
If any of you have a problem with her not issuing official challenge until after her baby is born I suggest you bone up on the story of Macha's race while she was pregnant and find out the consequences to those forcing her to race.
As for the member acting like a house, well, most of us in House DT have remained friends above and beyond the politics of the arena. G. has his goal, a house of friends that enjoy dueling and the company of the others.
In the spirit of the holidays, let's stuff the politics into a sock and burn them in the yule fire.

Roland,
Regardless of whether or not it was personal or political, there is one thing I would not do: duel in a duel of honor.

Madame Silvertree,
In the matter of thine request to be addressed with strict formality and courtesy; a grand duchess may request her subjects to address her as Your Grace, indeed those below her station would properly address her as Your Grace. Madame, thou appears nae to grasp that I am addressing thee with strictest formality and courtesy, in that I address thee ast Madame or Lady Drakewyn. In perusing various aspects of thine letter, including thine manner of
addressing various personages and thine signature, I shall presume, charitably, that thou hast nae a secretary in service unto thee, and further, that the Duchy of Haaristad ist bereft of one learned in heraldry.
Madame, what thee didst state in thine letter, though thou dost claim otherwise, wast indeed nothing but a plea for sympathy. Madame, tis nae a matter of two few warlords being willing to place notice of challenge upon this ancient corkboard. Tis the manner in which they eschew including their bona fides. We have one warlord now suddenly claiming he hast chosen nae to include such out of politeness and a wish nae to embarrass his opponents. I
must say I find that most amusing. Dost he feel that by merely managing to defeat a peer then to announce his bona fides wouldst indeed embarrass his peers? I must say I find that most condescending behavior. In light of the fact that, in past, honorable warlords had no fear that their bona fides might come under public scrutiny nor would said peers take umbrage at having their names placed upon said lists.
Ast a matter of record, t'was a time, ast I believe I may have already stated, wherein a warlord didst proudly place his or her bona fides upon this corkboard, and the public at large rarely had need to scrutinize or make comment upon such. T'was a time ast well that the keeper of the standings didst routinely announce unto the public that said challenge wast valid. When one considers the spate of improperly issued challenges o'er time, tis one
wouldst think that a warlord who wast certain of his bona fides and abilities wouldst nae eschew to bravely put forth his gauntlet.
Madame, that ist nae what thou hast done. Thou hast nae challenged, thou hast merely placed an intent to challenge, hae thee nae? Tis much like informing the community that thee intend to take lunch at a certain hour, neh?
Madame, were I to wish to call thee a coward, I should do so, bluntly. I say again, thine attempt by thine missives ist merely an attempt upon thine part to call attention to thineself and thine condition, to attempt to curry sympathy and favor, nothing more, nothing less, and tis indeed thou art behaving in a cowardly manner, hiding behind thine skirts and thine belly.
Were the Baron to have made a physical attack upon thee, placing thee and thine bairn in peril, t'would be another matter entirely. Madame, that ist nae the case. Thou hast taken umbrage that the Baron deigns nae to answer thee, nothing more, nothing less. Stridency in a female ist annoying, Madame, especially in one who claims title as a duchess, and e'en more annoying in one who wouldst seek a Baron's ring out of mere pique that her demands
were nae granted. Tis the behavior one might expect of a spoiled child, nae that of a grown female of any species.
If I am nae mistaken, the Baron Var ist nae a subject of the Duchy of Haaristad, nor ist he subject to thine whims. I do, however, thank thee, for thine admissions, Madame. Thou hast confirmed to the letter that which I had already surmised. The only foolish notion here ist that such blatant, whining pleas for sympathy shall find favor with me.
I am put in mind of those of thine gender which hae worn or do now wear a Baron's ring. Siera Redwin, wearer of the Second ring and one of the Original Nine; Halo, wearer of the Fourth Ring and one of the Original Nine, Beka Cavish, wearer also of the Fourth Ring; Ellisa Morgan, twice wearer of the Seventh Ring; Kaprielle d'Argent, wearer of the First and Fifth Rings; Morgan le Fay du Cornwall, wearer of the Fifth and Forth Rings; Luthien Tinuviel
Sal Roa, wearer of the Ninth Ring, Adeena Maeax, twice wearer of the Sixth; The Lady Midnight Blue, wearer of the Eighth Ring; The Lady Topaz Eludes Arkanan, wearer of the Ninth Ring.
I am then reminded of the current holder of the Third Ring. I am then of a mind to ponder thee ast wearer of the tenth Ring. Tis an actuality I wouldst most certes hope dinna come to pass.
