Madame Silvertree,
In the matter of thine request to be addressed with strict formality and courtesy; a grand duchess may request her subjects to address her as Your Grace, indeed those below her station would properly address her as Your Grace. Madame, thou appears nae to grasp that I am addressing thee with strictest formality and courtesy, in that I address thee ast Madame or Lady Drakewyn. In perusing various aspects of thine letter, including thine manner of
addressing various personages and thine signature, I shall presume, charitably, that thou hast nae a secretary in service unto thee, and further, that the Duchy of Haaristad ist bereft of one learned in heraldry.
Madame, what thee didst state in thine letter, though thou dost claim otherwise, wast indeed nothing but a plea for sympathy. Madame, tis nae a matter of two few warlords being willing to place notice of challenge upon this ancient corkboard. Tis the manner in which they eschew including their bona fides. We have one warlord now suddenly claiming he hast chosen nae to include such out of politeness and a wish nae to embarrass his opponents. I
must say I find that most amusing. Dost he feel that by merely managing to defeat a peer then to announce his bona fides wouldst indeed embarrass his peers? I must say I find that most condescending behavior. In light of the fact that, in past, honorable warlords had no fear that their bona fides might come under public scrutiny nor would said peers take umbrage at having their names placed upon said lists.
Ast a matter of record, t'was a time, ast I believe I may have already stated, wherein a warlord didst proudly place his or her bona fides upon this corkboard, and the public at large rarely had need to scrutinize or make comment upon such. T'was a time ast well that the keeper of the standings didst routinely announce unto the public that said challenge wast valid. When one considers the spate of improperly issued challenges o'er time, tis one
wouldst think that a warlord who wast certain of his bona fides and abilities wouldst nae eschew to bravely put forth his gauntlet.
Madame, that ist nae what thou hast done. Thou hast nae challenged, thou hast merely placed an intent to challenge, hae thee nae? Tis much like informing the community that thee intend to take lunch at a certain hour, neh?
Madame, were I to wish to call thee a coward, I should do so, bluntly. I say again, thine attempt by thine missives ist merely an attempt upon thine part to call attention to thineself and thine condition, to attempt to curry sympathy and favor, nothing more, nothing less, and tis indeed thou art behaving in a cowardly manner, hiding behind thine skirts and thine belly.
Were the Baron to have made a physical attack upon thee, placing thee and thine bairn in peril, t'would be another matter entirely. Madame, that ist nae the case. Thou hast taken umbrage that the Baron deigns nae to answer thee, nothing more, nothing less. Stridency in a female ist annoying, Madame, especially in one who claims title as a duchess, and e'en more annoying in one who wouldst seek a Baron's ring out of mere pique that her demands
were nae granted. Tis the behavior one might expect of a spoiled child, nae that of a grown female of any species.
If I am nae mistaken, the Baron Var ist nae a subject of the Duchy of Haaristad, nor ist he subject to thine whims. I do, however, thank thee, for thine admissions, Madame. Thou hast confirmed to the letter that which I had already surmised. The only foolish notion here ist that such blatant, whining pleas for sympathy shall find favor with me.
I am put in mind of those of thine gender which hae worn or do now wear a Baron's ring. Siera Redwin, wearer of the Second ring and one of the Original Nine; Halo, wearer of the Fourth Ring and one of the Original Nine, Beka Cavish, wearer also of the Fourth Ring; Ellisa Morgan, twice wearer of the Seventh Ring; Kaprielle d'Argent, wearer of the First and Fifth Rings; Morgan le Fay du Cornwall, wearer of the Fifth and Forth Rings; Luthien Tinuviel
Sal Roa, wearer of the Ninth Ring, Adeena Maeax, twice wearer of the Sixth; The Lady Midnight Blue, wearer of the Eighth Ring; The Lady Topaz Eludes Arkanan, wearer of the Ninth Ring.
I am then reminded of the current holder of the Third Ring. I am then of a mind to ponder thee ast wearer of the tenth Ring. Tis an actuality I wouldst most certes hope dinna come to pass.

Madame Elgarette
Thine statement to whit: "This from a woman who, rather over dramatically, insinuated that a shield that never actually touched her was an attempt by me to harm her unborn child, even though the magickal training she claims should have told her that such magicks would not hurt her, having never even entered her aura. The hypocrisy and callousness abounds."
...ist again nothing but a bald faced attempt to belittle the fact that thou didst attack me person whilst I wast heavy with child. Thine first feeble attempt wast deflected with a mere snapping of mine fingers. Thou didst make a second attempt to bind me with thine untrained skills, which I again deflected. I do recall that Billy Ray didst give thee warning shouldst thee be so foolish ast to attempt a third attack. How utterly brave and
courageous of thee, Madame, to attempt both a physical ast well ast a magical attack upon a pregnant woman. I am yet able to conjure fully the events of that evening, ast well ast the aftermath. Tis the mark of an unskilled adept that thou wouldst hae nae conception of what harm the use of such wildly wielded and untrained arts might do to an unborn child. In point of fact, Madame, I doubt thee hae e'en considered the possiblity that, had thine
attempts succeeded, thou wouldst have been the murderer of the Princess Royal of Westridge. Ast I clearly recall thou didst threaten to bring an army against me, an army to arrest a lone pregnant woman. Indeed, Madame, thine hypocrisy and callousness dost abound. Westridge and the Provinces, Madame, aire well rid of thee.

If a challenge match in the Duel of Swords does not qualify as a physical attack, what does? Yes, Var is not actively following Drake and attempting to attack her, but one would expect that, when challenged for his ring, he would not stand idly in the ring and let Drake win without putting up a fight. One would also expect that he not use merely defensive maneuevers either...therefore, he would attack, physically. Drake has already explained
that the Wards have an odd effect on her powers, so it is very possible that she and her child could be put in danger as a result of one of Var's "physical attacks" which are only to be expected in a challenge match.
Additionally, Madame, you are a mother, and in this very stack of notes you criticize Sid for when she "didst attack me person whilst I wast heavy with child." In a challenge match, is it not very likely that Var would do the same thing to Drake? Would any mother voluntarily go into a situation where she risks the life of her child? And can you honestly criticize Drake for
choosing to keep her daughter safe?

Ally,
While Drake has already explained her reasons for not challenging at the moment, and why being with child would affect her performance, I simply want to clarify something.
No, I would not use solely defensive maneuvers, you're correct about that. But when I use an "offensive" maneuver, it is lacking in aggression, and the result is a simple tap. Me being the father of four, I wouldn't put Drake or her child in jeopardy.
However, as Drake has explained, being with child can make impair movement, and any immediate jumps or jolts from the mother herself would cause the harm to the child. That is, at least, how I understood Drake's words. If I misunderstood, I am sure I will be corrected.
I simply wanted to make sure that was clarified. For the rest of your post, there's nothing I can honestly respond to, for I am sure that will be clarified by the one directed to.
Humbly,

While I didn't mean to imply that you would be actively seeking to harm Drake - whether she was with child at the time or not - a match of any sort has the potential to cause harm to the duelers. And as both you and Drake have mentioned, her state of pregnancy can impair her movement, and she might not be able to move out of range as quickly, or she might, as you said, harm the child while moving. I personally feel these are needless risks Drake is
avoiding by postponing challenge, and all accusations involving her "cowardice" are, at best, hastily made.

Khrysta,
Tis Madame Drakewyn had placed an intent to challenge, nae a challenge here, then didst excuse her lack of making formal challenge to the Baron stating it wast due to her delicate condition. Now, tis nae likely she suddenly became aware of her condition, though were that the case, t'would be understandable that she wouldst then postpone making official challenge, neh? Quite simply, she didst so merely to publicly castigate the Baron, for hae that
nae been the underlying reason, she wouldst merely hae issued challenge and been done with it.

Hmm
It seems to me that this is clear cut.
A woman feels herself insulted and betrayed by someone she considers a friend { hereafter, the Baron }. She tries to work this out with the Baron, but the Baron appears to ignore her every attempt. { I would be insulted by this as well. At the very least, I would expect my friend to say I can't tell you why I did what I did or some other such thing. }
The woman then brings the matter to public attention by telling everyone she is going to challenge the Baron. It is obvious that she would prefer to challenge now, but she is unable to.
The Baron replies to the woman. Part of his reply appears to indicate that he knew what he was doing to cause the woman to feel insulted and betrayed, but he did not care.
After this, the traditional round of insults is begun and, in many places, carried to the extreme. There is one insult here that I do not understand though.
How is giving someone a greater than normal ammount of time to prepare for a duel, cowardice?
Personally, I am not a dueler of rank in this sport, having only dabbled in it a few times some years ago. But, what if I were the one who felt insulted by the words or actions of a titled duelist? It appears to me that I would be called a coward for telling that titled duelist that I would challenge them as soon as I had gained the required rank and peer wins. Perhaps I would even be accused of hiding behind my commoner's rank.
Perhaps I should reconsider entering a forum where such ill informed opinions and insults are so freely given.

Ye know, I'm seein' a lot o' commen's on Drake "hidin' behind" her pregnancy an' how Var'd ne'er hurt a woman wi' a bairne.
Fer the half o' the DoS who's ne'er had ta do i', t'is a hard thin' ta figh' yer best wi' yer stomach bulgin' out a foot or more in front o' ye an' yer steps reduced ta an akward waddle. E'en shou' Drake nae be concerned wi' the safety o' her unborn, nae one goes ta challenge in less than their best possible condition.

A few comments to close this matter once and for all.
The Baron Var Medici-Giovanni knows why I am challenging him, as do any of my good friends who ask... though the basic reasons can be gleaned from the posts I have placed.
I choose to issue a Letter of Intent because that is my way, and because I feel it required to satisfy my personal sense of honor and duty to a man I once called a true friend. No greater reason than this should be requied.
I chose to issue this Letter at this time because, for me to have issued it at the time the initial betrayal was done would have gone against my personal sense of honor. I felt it my duty to attempt to reconcile with the Baron... and yet, my patience is not boundless.
Any personal matters which I feel required to settle after this point, I will settle personally, and not upon this board.
I thank you for your time.
