Noelle's Guidance
From: rlupton@aol.com (RLupton)
Date: 24 Dec 1998 07:19:04 EST
Duelists,
Upon my retirement some time ago, I was approached by the fair and lovely Noelle Medici-Giovanni. She had insisted in my return, claiming my skill to be at a level higher than that of any other duelist. When asked, she said this included her husband, stating her love did not blind her to the obvious.
Noelle was then one of the sole deciding factors in my return, her words an inspiration of faith within myself. Again, her words on that evening inspire me to action. With her voice ringing musically as a sweet silver bell in my head, she guides me to this day challenge the Baron she did specifically name to be an inferior swordsman, Baron Var Medici-Giovanni. The Barons of the Duel of Swords represent the thirteen best duelists, excluding the
Overlord, currently in her sport. I have to believe the Lady Noelle to be an honest person, and therefore cannot stand by while the Baronial rings are being unjustly misrepresented.
I wish to again offer my thanks, Noelle, for I could not have made this decision without your help.

M'lord Lupton,
Tis with a heavy heart, I write this. I did indeed say, that you are the finest dueler in all of Rhydin, in my opinion. I was truly saddened that you chose to retire and felt the arena was losing a fine dueler. Understand, I never learned to play word games and lies dunnae roll off my tongue with ease as they do with some. I am honest to a fault, m'lord. Those words were told in private and previously known to only Var and you. Twas my mistake,
in thinking they were told in confidence. For that alone, I humbly apologize to Var.
Since returning from his journey, my husband has not spoken to me of this public humiliation. I've been privileged to and basked in a long and loving relationship. Should my husband choose to leave me, I could not find it in my heart to fault him. Know that, regardless of my marital status...I shall support Baron Medici-Giovanni in this challenge with my last dying breath.
Sincerely,
Noelle Medici-Giovanni

Interesting scenario.
Who to root for when no one is worthy?
Simple enough. Win Var, Drake has a better claim on you than Lupton.

::reads through the posts, not finding much interesting. Comes across Lupton's challenge, and after reading it, and Noelle's reply, stops to chuckle and say to himself::
Tell Lupton something in confidence, eh? I guess that's called learning the hard way.
::continues flipping through the remaining posts::

To the readers,
We see what lowliness Lupton must stoop to. He has tried to use such words in attempt to ruin a happy marriage; a marriage that cannot be broken.
But Lupton, I know myself you're a better dueler than me. Does that mean my words will chime in your ears? Lord, I know I'm one of the barons with the lowest level of skill, when compared to the others.
I love my lady Noelle, Lupton. There is no way your words or actions could ruin an indestructible marriage. "She brought me from the twilight of my soul to the light of her love... no, I will never leave her. Not even death itself could make me." I hope Lady Noelle reads this, and sees how much I love her, and I hope the readers see this, to see how much she means to me. When the peer wins are validated, I will humbly accept your
challenge, and I will have my wife, my love, and my life stand as my Lady of Honor as always.
Regarding who chooses the details, I will supply that information as well, when I accept the challenge.
To Noelle,
I love you with all my heart, always. Please never doubt that.
Humbly,
Var Medici-Giovanni

Lupton est Dracoern,
May your wise guidance prove true. If it was given in confidence, then that is a personal matter, unrelated to the challenge itself. Perhaps when I see you wearing Baron Medici-Giovanni's former ring will instill in me the proper flame that I've lacked to allow me to join you on the council in the near future. After all, I couldn't have people thinking that you could top me, eh? May your blade strike true, and often.

To the few claiming my goal is to destroy a marriage,
It is not. Why did I post Noelle's words? Simply said, my own humor and laugh.
Merry holidays, all.

Lupton,
Not to dispute your right to make your own jokes, but I find your jest in very poor taste.

::Reads over the list of peer wins and sighs...remembering her duel with Lupton. Thinking to herself she has to wonder.... I know I forfeited because I was terribly ill and had to leave or get sick in the ring...I guess a forfeit is considered a peer *win*. Shrugs and walks off::
