<<Magnus was a relative unknown who shouldn't have the right to be Overlord. And who died and gave you the right
to decide that? Magnus has defended his ring 4 times with success. Even if he hadn't, the fact he wears a Baronial ring says something about his skill.>>
Cas,
First off, Magnus' *right* ta be Overlord was never questioned. Our *desire* ta have him dere was. Again ya rush ta prove his worth ta me and others, no one said Magnus couldn't serve as a good Overlord, da "Pro-Dals" just don't want him ta have a chance. We like Dal, Dal's been a superb Overlord and were in no rush ta seek change. Also, no one died ta give us our right ta opinion. We are barons of DoS, bein' a baron alone gives me da right ta
influence challenge matches. It is power, power other ranks don't have, which is why I love Baron da most.
Next ya quote him beatin' me in a duel. So what? Some commoner in his first duel could waltz in and beat Dalamar. Doesn't prove anything (if dat's what ya seek ta do), nor do ya need ta prove anything. I don't care of Magnus was undefeated 150-00-00, his worth isn't part of my equation. Ya seem ta touch on it in yer 2nd paragraph addressed ta "Anti-Dals", but in yer need ta bash Pro Dals ya contradict yerself. Understand da Pro Dals are
fighting a new battle...discreditin' da need fer Dal ta continue with his no test policy. Magnus' worth was NEVER an issue, nor is our feelings fer him a current one. He lost, its over; we're movin' on, at least recognize our issues please.

Why do ya think ta Magnus would be a good Over Lord?
Summer,
I'll answer this with numerous reasons...
1. I know Magnus would fight each and every challenger that came across him without trying to get out of it.
2. Magnus is polite to newcomers and tries to help them fit in.
3. He doesn't intiate fights and 9 times out of 10 won't throw an insult back at someone.
4. If Magnus gives his word, he will hold true to it. If he says something to the public, he will stick with it to the end.
Shall I keep going??

Hey Jeff...
There -is- something you can do against a Baron you don't like... You can give up your ring, garner ten peerwins, then challenge him.
Yeah, I know... Not exactly the smartest thing in the world to do, but wouldn't it be fun?
Personally, it's not something I would do except in extreme circumstances... but it -is- an option.
P.S. I'm -certainly- not saying you should do this...

Lemme just say this. And I mean it.
Let's just say I challenge the Overlord someday.
I'm about to assume the title of Supreme Dueler. That means that Roland Sal Roa will be claimed the best dueler in the land.
"But all he did was win one duel, how does that make him the best?"
It doesn't. Just makes me the better man of the day, but that is all you need really.
If it were up to me, I'd want to take the title knowing with out a doubt I won. I took on the Champion and Overlord, or beat the Overlord twice for the title. Two men with undoubted skill, and won.
Granted, that is not 19 defense or anything, nor is it how Dalamar first got his title, but it is a better start than most and would put rest doubt in most minds that I deserve that crown.

Zen,
Dal knew Kal wouldn't be a baron forever. I don't think Dal ever planned to keep the oath to the very end when he said he'd do it.
When these "loyalists" claimed loyalty, I don't think they planned to ever change alignment. In fact, most admitted they felt they were wrong when they claimed loyalty (at least how I see it).
Dal swore to something he didn't believe in, in the first place. He swore this to the public. At least, that's how I see it. If I'm wrong, I hope someone says so.

I like to pretend I'm Overlord sometimes, Sid. During lessons, when Dalamar would go to the bar or bathroom I would stab the air with Vengance and proclaim, "I am the Overlord, Supreme Dueler of all the land... and quite the cook, too"
Of course, Dalamar would then return when cooking came into the picture and would take Vengance away from me. I miss pretending.

>>To say the above is to ignore the fact that Magnus chose a champion as well. Are we to hold Dal to higher standards because we don't like him?<<
No. We are to hold him to a higher standard because he is Overlord. It is the duty of the Overlord to defend his title. Pure and simple. This is the duty of anyone in the DoS who holds a title. It is the duty of he or she who holds the title meet he or she who wishes to take it away from them.
Lately, people who support Dal have taken to calling those who oppose the Test and the Intercession hypocrites if they choose to intervene against the Test or Intercession or allow another to intervene for them. This tactic really doesn't hold water. Why not? It should be obvious. Think about it for a few moments. If you understand, you don't need to read any further. If you don't, then start the next paragraph.
The difference is what Intercession/Testing is and what intervening on the behalf of a challenger is. Interceding against/Testing a challenger is three things. First, it is a direct personal insult regarding the challenger's skill or worthiness. Second, it is the relative equivalent of asking your best friend to help you beat up another kid on a playground, because you don't think you can handle them yourself. Allowing someone to intervene on the
challenger's behalf is the equivalent of a teacher keeping the extra bullies out of the fight.
It is wrong to gang up on an opponent. There is nothing at all wrong with trying to keep the people who don't belong in the fight out.
>>Think about it. Pretend that you are the Overlord, and practically everyone wants something different from you. Test as you wish, Test when it's right, Test always, Never Test, no matter the situation. <<
This is easy. Forget about politics,Tests, Intercessions, etc and just duel. Do what you think is right. Be true to yourself. Then, when people criticize you, just go on dueling. This is, when all is said and done, a sport. Concentrate on the sport and forget about the garbage. You will be a lot happier.
Now, time to tack on my personal opinion of this mess. Dal made the stupidest political blunder of his career. He has made himself look bad in a lot of eyes. If he thinks he did the right thing, then it was worth it to him.Whether we think he did the right thing either doesn't matter to him, or shouldn't.
It should matter to us though. Dalamar can't seem to decide whether he cares about public opinion or not. He, apparently, has problems formulating consistent policy. He has a problem showing us what he believes and what he stands for.
Maybe he doesn't believe anything?

<<It is the duty of the Overlord to defend his title. Pure and simple.>>
Agreed Percy, so why da ya spend da rest of yer post bashin' Dal fer defendin' his title ta da best of his abilities? Even if he had come ta me askin' fer me ta champion him (which was not da case) it would be a political tactic and part of him defendin' his station of Overlord.
<<First, it is a direct personal insult regarding the challenger's skill or worthiness. Second, it is the relative equivalent of asking your best friend to help you beat up another kid on a playground, because you don't think you can handle them yourself. >>
Wrong Percy, if ya'd take some time ta read why I interceded maybe ya wouldn't look like such a fool fer sayin' what ya did. I don't care how worthy Magnus is, I didn't want him ta become Overlord, simple. Dalamar's skill most likely exceeds my own, in fact he bested Magnus when I did not. However, he still let me intervene and have a say in decidin' who shall be Overlord because it was important ta me. My intercession may have in fact lowered
Dal's chances of winnin' because he might be a better dueler and so would increase his chances duelin' twice; but da challenge isn't about winning percentage.
<<Concentrate on the sport and forget about the garbage. You will be a lot happier.>>
If politics is garbage den da statement doesn't hold true fer me. Don't speak fer everyone Percy, cause everyone doesn't agree with ya. Politics involves power, I enjoy da power, maybe someday if ya ever actually become a baron ya can comment with better insight inta it. But seein' as how ya have always been a warlord just moving around a ring collecting a record, ya haven't had yer chance ta experience da politics of DoS.
<<He has a problem showing us what he believes and what he stands for.
Maybe he doesn't believe anything?>>
Actually he has no problem defining his beliefs, he just chooses not ta post very often here. Talk ta him sometime Percy, ya know, its where two human beings converse in spoken dialect. Maybe he doesn't believe anything....what a crock....of course he has beliefs, chances are dey just don't coincide with yers.
Here endeth da lesson.

Drake,
Indeed I could follow da course of action ya prescribe, however it would not be as Baron Jeffrey Oakenshield as Deluthan Heart said. Outside of ToW, Barons cannot oppose Barons. But since ToW does exist and it is a far simpler process dan da one quoted above, I believe I'll stick ta it.

"As stupid as you may think Var has been in his posts, is it really necessary to stoop to such a level as making that a closing statement on your otherwise well written post?"
Yes, it is the only way he and his ilk understand.

::sighs::
Baron Oakenshield,
The idea that came to mind was that of a deal of some sort, perhaps a duel where as if you win, Magus withdraws his challenge, and if he wins, well...that's all irrelevant now. After reading Roland's post on the subject, I can see it from your stand point now. I respect you as an excellent dueler.
And if there's anything I've learned form this board, it's not to state your opinion.

My personal views, as a Loyalist Baron, on this are actually fairly simple. Dalamar is my Overlord and I've sworn loyalty to him. Unless there's a very good, valid reason for me to change my alignment, which I highly doubt will occur, you'll not see me do so.
Due to my loyalty to Dalamar, any challenger to the crown, friend or foe, is unworthy in my eyes to take his crown, and I'll offer my blade to him in every challenge, as I've stated several times.
To put it bluntly, all the accusations being levied at Dal don't matter at all. In the end, to be the Overlord, you have to get by Dalamar Ar'Daumon, and no one's been able to do that. Dal may be loved or hated, but he is going to be the Overlord until someone beats him. And a large portion of the people complaining over his policies seem to be the ones who can't beat him. Oh well, that's life I suppose.

> Maybe he doesn't believe anything....what a crock....of course he has beliefs, chances are dey just don't coincide with yers.<
Well, Jeff, it sounds like he believes in fickle policies just for the sake of having someone take the loyal title under his belt. "I'll use the test as I please", "Everyone, I won't use the test on barons from this point on", "Actually, that last post was just for Kal's sake. Don't mind me."
Is that what he believes in?
And to Morgan, the thing I'm ignorant about, is what you think I'm ignorant about. I know Dal and Kal made an oath. I know it was between those two, but Dal extended the boundaries when he announced it to the community for the sake of hearing a few "Three cheers for Dal!" That was his fault, simple. Kal can tell Dal to go back on the word, heck, anyone can. The difference is, though, not one person is representing the community as a whole,
and Dal following one person's words doesn't mean approval from the whole community.
Fact is, I don't think you'd care half as much when Huma broke his oath to Jeff for that "honor duel", if he didn't post it publicly. You'd be angry at him, yes, but most of it was because he wrote it publicly, and went back on it. I know (at least in my eyes), that I'd be less angry because he didn't post it publicly. Make note, though, I'd still be angry.
You want to say otherwise, that's up to you. However, I'm saying now that I'd not believe most of those who say such. And with the limited sense I find with your loyalist rhetoric, you'd not be one of the few I'd believe.
Bluntly,
Var Medici-Giovanni

Who in their right mind would want to be Overlord now?
For one, Dalamar has set the bar so high, it's over most's heads.
For two, whoever takes his place will be pecked alive by challenges. Friends or naught, you will go down. Politically and phyically. And those who don't believe the Test is just and won't employ it in your defensive tactics will burn like a pink slip in hell. Think I'm joking? Newpers.
For three, who in their right mind would want to take this crap? Granted, the title of Supreme Dueler sounds great and the power given to you will be equally great. But the responsibility given to you would break you in half, unless you had some thick armour on.
Your actions are watched closely. Anyone with a dream of being the Overlord and claiming those bragging rights will be on you like moths to a flame.
In closing: The only people I think who could possibly take that strain are the one's who I would not want to see Overlord. The people who don't care or have so low a self-esteem that trying for the title was your abusive friend's idea in the first place.
In closing the closing: Dalamar, man, you are insane!
