The night drifted closer to morn as she walked the deserted streets of Rhydin, her tears cold against her cheeks as the bitter winter air nipped at her face and hands.
~How bitter does the wind that blows, leave limbs that sting with pain....
but bitter words bite twice as hard, and the damage forever remains.~
Bitter words, how easily we allow them to fall from our lips, to infect those around us. Do we not consider another's feelings when we speak out of anger or hurt.... guess we feel what we have to say is more important, no matter the cost.
Simple letters strung together, and yet they strike an inner chord that draws emotions from you that cloud your better judgment. There are those that hear these little strings of letters and pass them off as idle chat. Oh....to be such a person would make things so easy.... To be able to sit back and not react to the idle chat of others.
But when these words are directed solely at you they take on another dimension, they have depth. Now, how far you allow these words to penetrate will depend on the type of person you are; knowing she is one that takes things to heart.
Lupton's words echoed in her thoughts, ~She dabbles in other men, though, during marriage. No worries, Shadow'll be old news once she's divorced.~ How cruel people can be when they feel they have been slighted in one way or another, they cannot be happy in their own
life unless they are making another's life a living hell. She had simply said, "Night Lupton". Yet his single word refrain, "Adulteress," was like a dagger plunged deep in her chest.
But her night would not end there, no that would be too easy. Her closest and dearest friend would say words to pierce straight through her. At first she took things with the love and understanding one has for a dear friend, after all Nessa is pregnant and little things have a way of looking worse then they are when your hormones are slightly out of balance. But the words continued, and as hard as she tried to explain her reasoning the faster
Nessa's words would flow.
If only she had taken the time to learn about Nessa and her people perhaps then she would have been a good choice as godmother for the child. But her one fear that kept her from accepting this most precious honor was that she had been called twice before to aid friends of this race, one being Nessa herself, and she had not being able to help. If it had not been for someone else stepping in to offer assistance both Sil and Nessa would have suffered.
She couldn't let that happen to a child, especially one that would mean so much to her. But Nessa didn't understand this fear she held so strong, and because of that fear she lost her dearest friend.
As the light of day struggled to part the evening darkness she found herself outside the arena door. For so long she had enjoyed stepping into the arena, the excitement of duels and friends making way to a night of fun and relaxation. But not this night, no...it wasn't worth the hurt and pain. Silently she turned her back to the arena as she sought the one person who might help her make any sense of the evenings chaos. The soft tone of her voice
carried on the wind, "I need to talk to Shadow."
