Intentions for the Seventh
From: lorduziel@aol.com (Lord Uziel)
Date: 12 Jan 1999 01:47:49 EST
Patrons, Baron, and the Overlord,
It is with this I announce my intention to soon reclaim the ring I once bore...the Seventh. At this time, Baron Black...that ring rests upon your finger. And while I hold no ill will towards you as a man, I feel need for that which was mine upon a time.
So with little pomp and circumstance I do hereby announce that I will offer up the required peer wins within the week, and do so hope, that like me in my holding of the Seventh....the current baron will choose to meet and deal with me swiftly.
Respectfully,
~Adonai Uziel

Adonai...
I wait to see what will be said of your posting of your intent... However, I must note that the gaining of ten peer wins in one week is a monumentous task, and I for one shall be more than slightly impressed should you succeed.
Other than that, I wish you luck in your quest.

::smirks reading Drake's post::
Well....even with the overwhelming evidence that the public thinks they should keep their challenges private...I personally believe a challenge for the title of Baron belongs to everyone. So if some wish to flame me for being honest about my intentions...then let them, I have little time to play ring around the rosie with those that convince themselves of their own wisdom and importance by pointing out percieved faults in others reasoning...so they
will recieve little if any attention from this end for their trouble.
On the other hand Drake...had I been a Warlord last weekend I would have already gained the needed wins in a space of a few days.....not only noting that I did not come out of retirement and as far as I interpret things any peers I may have had on past dates are still valid...as I was never removed from our ranks. But then...I could be wrong ::grins::
My thanks for your words.

::Chuckling to herself at the tone of Adonai's post, she thanks her half-brother for delivering it to her attention. Quickly penning a reply, she hands it to him so he may post it on the boards.::
Adonai...
I forgot you weren't here this time last month... All I can say is, be thankful your letter of intent hasn't gotten as much attention as mine did.
As for your situation concerning wins and rankings and such, I'll give it some thought. Ms. Jansen seems to be doing a grand job, but I've been at this for awhile now... If all else fails, I'll consult with Golden and Helix about the matter.
Now if only I could convince Adelie it's past time for her to be born...

Madame Silvertree,
Perhaps tis slipped thine notice. If I am nae mistaken Madame Helix Girvin hast retired. Also, if I am nae mistaken, Adonai Uziel wouldst hae been required to give official notice of his retirement unto the keeper of the lists. Indeed, if I am also nae mistaken, a returning warlord, once reinstated upon the lists, must begin anew in earning his bona fides shouldst he wish to present proper challenge unto one of titled rank.
Informatively

Jona,
The way I see it, is just because someone experienced is retired from a job, does not mean you cannot go to them for guidence and advice.
I am sure Drake as well as Adonai know that he has to regain peer wins in order to challenge for a title, and start collecting them brand new. Especially if he had retired officially.
Oftentimes, I consult my good friend Bishop on matters of dueling and such, and he's retired. I value his opinion even through he no longer duels.
If Drake feels she can gain some insight by consulting the previous DoS Coordinator before Golden, there's nothing at all wrong with that.

Well said, G. Someone's insight, intelligence, and experience are not diminished by their retirement from a career or their resignation from a position. They are still the same person with the same know how, experience, and wisdom. And, actually, their lack of involvement can give them an extra insight. The viewpoint of the outsider looking in. Sometimes these outside viewpoints are useful, as they offer a change of perspective that can be quite
refreshing.

P.S. G, this earn enough robot points to keep me in your good graces another cycle?

Yeah Jay, sure you are. More likely you just want to see me write it all down for your own twisted amusement.

Umm...just to interject, while everyone has valid reasons for Adonai's challenge, they seemed to have overlooked a minor one. I have already pressed challenge for the 7th....and whether the Baron or I wins...I thought it was polite to wait at least a couple of weeks for slight recovery.

G'nort my good friend.
I had not known that the Lady Starfare had promoted herself to Duel of Swords Supervisor, taking it upon herself to judge all questions of the rules that might come up. I am certain this news will surprise our mutual friend Lord Evermeadow.
Thanks be to the Gods that this is not an official post the Lady has taken up... the vitriol of her judgements given an official weight would wear through the very floor of the Arena itself.
My agent, Ms. Karen Jansen is the Standings Keeper for the Duel of Swords until I return from maternity leave. She felt this situation was beyond her experience and turned it over to me. Now, whom I choose to consult with for detirmination of a course of action is -strictly- a matter for the Duel of Swords staff... of which Lady Jonalyn has been extended many invitations to join in recent months, yet always turned them down.
In addition, it is usually wise to know all the particulars of a case before pronouncing a judgement. In this particular case, Lord Uziel was -not- retired, nor was his name removed from the lists of active duelists. However, due to a few changes that had been noticed in his manner, it was required that he prove his bonafides before taking up his exsisting rank and record.
The only issue here is if the duels he fought between the time of his return and the posting of his change of nom de guerre should count as peer duels.
According to the traditional handling of such matters, they would not... however, as there is no official notice of such in the rules, I took it upon myself to research the subject so this matter would not cause any problems in the future.
Though it is of more than academic intrest to the WarLord, he has stated that it is not a priority for him.
Lastly, should you see the Lady Starfare, please inform her that I will not answer missives directed to "Madame Silvertree" as I clearly explained to her in our last exchange of letters. If her Majesty cannot show the slightest level of respect for mine and other's wishes, I will no longer show her the respect she seems to demand of me.
And G... I'm sorry if this rant bothers you... I've seen too much disrespect around here to put up with it anymore.

Well, Daelin, since Damon is neutral, more than one challenged may be pressed to him. He can hold a queue. If Adonai challenges while yours is not finished, and you win, then his is wiped out. If you lose, though, he may fight his immediately afterward.
And...it's not uncommon that challenges are pressed very soon afterward-- even sometimes, as soon as the new standings are posted.

Percy,
I am keeping track. It's part of my official House duties. So it's not *just* for my own twisted amusement, but yeah, I would happen to find it amusing.
It's due at 10 tomorrow morning, on my desk please. Hehe.
