Peruses the latest bit of rantings by Madame Silvertree, breaks into a merry peal of laughter, snags the quill, pens a note, tacks it to the cork.

G'nort

Perhaps thee canst relate the following to Madame Silvertree.

Madame Silvertree,

Tis if thee wish to state something ast fact, do be factual. I hae nae been offered anna such position ast thee do claim, nor been invited at any time to join the staff of the Duels. I must wonder where thee aire getting your information, Madame. I hae, howe'er, more than a modicum of knowledge of the rules of engagement, traditions, precedents, and canst certes suggest those who wouldst hae much more, rest assured, Madame.

Thou are very thin skinned, Madame Silvertree, for thee seems to read into mine pennings more than t'was written. I do wonder that annaone who wouldst assume the duties that Ms. Jansen hast assumed wouldst nae be conversant with the simplest of matters.

One wouldst presume if said warlord ist in fact the actual personage what didst earn the record he wishes to hae reinstated, that would be the most important matter. I direct Ms. Jansen to the error in the matter of the reinstatement of the impostor Roustamm and shall presume that matter hast a bearing on Madame Silvertree's comment "...due to a few changes that had been noticed in his manner." One would presume if it hast been ascertained
that the one presenting himself ast Adonai Uziel was in fact the true personage, and that the officials were satisfied that it wast indeed he, and that none had come forth to call that into question, a simple change in his nom de guerre wouldst present little difficulty.

Drakewyn, despite your imperious claims, staff members are to be held accountable. They are held accountable to the patrons who frequent this establishment and take part in the events. If we were not here, you would not be working here.

Have a care before you deem something regarding this community as none of anyone's business. Who you choose to consult in formulating your official judgements or acting in official capacity will be noticed and people will formulate their own opinions.

You or any other members of the staff are not above scrutiny.

Not everyone here is a slathering sycophant turning a blind eye simply because a person is in the Red Dragon Inn's employ.

>>Not everyone here is a slathering sycophant turning a blind eye simply because a person is in the Red Dragon Inn's employ.<<

Morgan,

You have been around for quite awhile. You should know better than to make such a comment with such incorrect facts. None of our callers or queue keepers are in the 'employ' of anyone. They are volunteers, who serve in their capacity out of a desire to give something back to the community and the Arena. They are, for the most part, people who enjoy the Arena a great deal and wish to repay the sport and the community for what they feel the sport and
the community have given them. They are not employees, as they receive no recompense for their services. To refer to them as employees is both inaccurate as to the particulars and very disrespectful of their motivations and service. I do not know if it was your intention to give insult in such manner, or it was a simple mistake. I will assume it was the latter.
As to the issue of whether those who choose to show said volunteers the respect that their services and sacrifices of time merit them being 'slathering syncophants', such a remark can only be taken as the worst kind of slander of both the officials and those who actually treat them respectfully. As said before, the officials of the Duel of Swords are volunteers. They are not paid, compensated for income lost by serving, or given any sort of fringe
benefits. They choose to donate their time to the Arena for personal reasons. Their only gains are emotional, and equally personal. The fact that they choose to donate this time and labor for the benefit of the rest of us is worthy of a certain degree of respect. Those who do *not* choose to volunteer their time, yet feel that there are serious problems that need to be corrected, should consider becoming part of the solution. Those who criticize
without providing constructive ideas, those who advise without seeking to understand the situation, and those who slander others because they disagree with their ideas are not part of the solution. They are the problem in the first place.
I will not say I personally like all the officials. I dislike at least one rather strongly. Nor will I say that I consider all the officials competent or responsible. There is at least one incompetent official, and several irresponsible ones. I do not even approve, necessarily, of everything an official may do. Neither, however, do I slander their official decisions because of my personal disagreements with officials in the past. It would appear
that the criticism of Lady Drake from certain quarters seems to be more personally motivated than anything else. Others, being aware of the motivations for said criticism, should take such personal disagreements and dislikes into account before becoming involved.

::shaking her head at this::

Morgan,

I have stayed out of things for the most part of late, but to play devil's advocate here. Sure, if the duelists weren't here there would be no need for the staff, but on the other hand.. if all the staff leaves at one time it will be a while before the Duel of Swords reopens officially again. No standings, No challenges, no reason to complain about long lines, and no cork upon which to write complaints about those things.

It's not a matter of which side is more important, or who would be here without whom.. It's a matter of mutual respect in symbiosis.

Percy, what are you talking about? For as long as I have been here the bar tenders and officials are considered employees of the Red Dragon Inn. They are hired, fired, and they quit.

I did not say that those who simply show RDI's respect were slathering sycophants who turn a blind eye. There are specific traits of a sycophant, and positions; usually the sycophant is bent at the waist puckering their lips so as to kiss up to the RDI, starting at the posterior region. I am sure we can all thnk of more than a few people that fit that description.

As Collie says, and I agree up to a point, consideration goes both ways. However, when it all boils down in the end, RDI's are here for a specific purpose and that purpose is to serve the patrons and, as such, are to be held accountable for their actions. For too long, (some) RDI's have held the belief that they have the right to command the patrons to do their bidding and have been downright rude going so far as to yell and scream and jump down
patrons throats for not knowing the proper protocol.

((Author's Note: AOL CL's are volunteers so I can't have Morgan respond to the volunteer part which is most of the post. IC-wise, RDI's are employees and have been considered as such for as long as I have been here. If an RDI chooses OOC to not have an IC wage, that's their perogative, just like it's Carter's on ER, but the RDI is still representing the Red Dragon Inn IC and representing AOL and the RDIF OOC.

BTW, I don't have to have "Author's Notes" in my Author's Notes to save it from being pulled, though I did it this time. This OOC response is required so that relevant players understand why my character didn't respond to certain elements of the above-mentioned post.))

The commoner peruses Percival's missive, chortles softly, snags the quill, pens a note, tacking it to the cork.

Percival Marchand de Clermont.

Perhaps tis thee what hae nae been around long. More to the point, tis that old adage, "One gets what one pays for."

Tis been me experience that if one wishes compentant help, be it servants or chancellors, one must compensate them. Tis I wouldst wish volunteers only in an army, albeit operating under compentant commanders. Rest assured, e'en under those circumstances, I wouldst certes see that both troops and commanders were well compensated.

Indeed, the mere fact that one wears the uniform of the Red Dragon Inn does not, in and of itself, automatically bestow upon that personage the ability or competance to carry out their duties. That should be clear to e'en the least intelligent among the community. The mere fact that one does wear the uniform of the Red Dragon Inn does not, in and of itself, preclude them from being answerable for their actions, nor being called to account. One
wouldst call a commander to account for the actions of his troops, volunteer or nae, if one perceived the commander had erred to the detriment of the community, land or realm he wast given charge o'er and nae sit silently by, for by silence, one may be construed ast condoning misdeeds.

Lady Morgan.

Despite your rather harsh words, I will attempt to keep my reply civil.
Collie has already answered your comment on accountability, though I would like to add something to that.
It is clearly stated in our operations manual that, should the staff feel that a duelist's behavior has gone beyond the bounds of proper behavior, we have the right to cease 'serving' that duelist. This decision is then reviewed by the Supervisor.
While it can be said the opinions of the patrons are taken into consideration in such matters, the opinions of the patrons often mirror the opinions of the staff. I'm certain you recall the incident involving Zaradda and Kayne Rune.

As to the particulars of this situation, I have consistantly found Her Majesty's comments snide and rude... so if I choose to ignore any advice or opinions she holds, that -is- my business. If that puts me under your scrutiny, so be it.
In a matter concerning an official decision, the fact that I choose to consult with the former Supervisor and the current Supervisor should be enough. As this matter only concerns the WarLord myself and the Supervisor, I did not feel -required- to consult anyone else... but this is clearly another of those situations where every move made or word spoken is torn apart by rabid jackals.
Obviously, I should ask each and every patron in the community before making any decision... and yes, that is pure sarcasm.

On a side note, I personally have asked Her Majesty to join the staff more than a few times. I have also asked her why she choose not to join the staff.
And, as stated twice now, this specific matter is not about the re-instating of a WarLord's record.

Drakewyn, what you should do from now on is remember that as an employee of the Red Dragon Inn you can and will be held accountable for every decision or action you make in official capacity.

I do not care why you make the decisions you make or how justified you feel, I care that you make them and expect no one to question. This applies to all employees of the Red Dragon Inn, not just you.

As to the "particulars of this situation", I do not care. My concern was with the imperious way you announced you were not answerable to anyone and that you may do whatever you choose. You are gravely mistaken. I replied that no you may not do whatever you choose as an official and employee of the Red Dragon Inn and you are answerable to anyone that questions your actions, most especially patrons who are fiscaly responsible for your compensation.
That is how it works, whether you like it or not.

To all,

Now that the question of my identity is settled I would ask somewhat humbly that the circus be moved to another venue than this intentional post. While I hold all proponents in lesser or higher regard I would prefer that you keep your personal arguments to your own missives and perhaps be big enough to settle your disagreements among yourselves via fast messenger or the RhyDin courier service rather than take petty pot shots at each other
on what was, to be quite honest, a non volitile post.

Lord Daelin, as I am now aware of your challenge to the Baron Damon Black I will mayhaps hold back just long enough to see if you are successful in wresting said title from the Baron. But I will in no way seek title elsewhere and know truely that should the ring rest on his finger or yours ere your match be done.. I will be coming for it forthwith. And while I am sure this is a matter of no little concern for either of you I assure you it is not
personal in nature as the title is meaningful to me in a personal way and my seeking it has little to do with the bearer.

With those words said, fare well Warlord Daelin and may you fight bravely for the Seventh.

Baron Black, without saying, should you perform to expectation....I will meet with you forthwith.

I am,
~Adonai Uziel
~DragonLord of RhyDin

Madame Silvertree,

Thou art fabricating again, Madame. Thee hae ne'er spoken with me nor corresponded with me with regard to joining the staff. I dinna appreciate thine untruths, Madame. I must wonder whom thou art referring to, for tis certes nae mineself. Perhaps thou hast been deceived, aire in need of spectacles, or simply aire the utter fool thee appear to be. Ast to the incident with regard to Zaradda and Kayne Rune, Madame, it wast handled very poorly, in
mine opinion, though nae surprisingly so, considering the one who didst deal with the matter.

Lady Morgan.

In reading your reply, I find myself confused as to your choice of words.
At no time did I -ever- state that I was not answerable to anyone nor did I state that I would "do whatever I choose." In fact, I -did- state that I would consult with two people who's opinions on such matters have been respected for -quite- some time.
Yes, I am a member of the Staff of the Duel of Swords and thereby an employee of the Red Dragon Inn. Yes, I do listen to the -politely- offered advice of the patrons, especially those with more experience than I.
-However-, just because I am an employee of the Red Dragon Inn does -not- mean I am required to put up with statements I consider insults and words I consider degrading.
Thank the Gods we are allowed -that-.
Though you are quick to cast aside the particulars of this situation, what it boils down to is this... I was asked to make a judgement concerning a matter not covered in the rules. I informed the person involved that I was not certain, and would first consult with the previous supervisor as well as the current supervisor. Then, an uninvolved individual made a statement concerning the matter in a way that indicated that it was the -only-
manner in which the matter could be resolved.
Now, tell me something Morgan... who -does- provide the rulings concerning such matters... the Duel of Swords Supervisor, or anyone who speaks up at the moment?

Your support of your friend is admirable... but, if someone you did not know... or even better, someone you disliked... were to tell an official how to do their job in a manner you disagreed with... I wonder, would you still defend that individual's right to hold that official responsible for their decision? Especially if that decision could, in no way, affect you?

Drakewyn writes, "At no time did I -ever- state that I was not answerable to anyone nor did I state that I would "do whatever I choose."

To refresh your memory, here are you words, written a few days ago: "Now, whom I choose to consult with for detirmination of a course of action is -strictly- a matter for the Duel of Swords staff."

My assertions are that nothing you do in an official capacity is "strictly" a matter for staff. I repeat, you are not above scrutiny from anyone who frequents this sport.

Therein lies my sole concern. I care not who you are defending yourself to. After all this time, do you really think this is less about you and more about who you are disagreeing with? Come now, accept the reality and realize my concern really is all about what you do and say.

If you would care to admit that you are to be held accountable to everyone by sheer virtue of your position, then I would have no cause of complaint in this matter. But already you have a habit of believing yourself to be above scrutiny and flaunting that you will do whatever you choose as your careless and arrogant lowering of the ward would be one of the most grave of abuses and you have done nothing but say you were justified in
your tampering. I am wondering when this sport became The Duel of Swords According to Drakewyn's Whim.

You, and all the other RDIs, chose to serve patrons of this arena. We do not serve you, despite whatever your operations manual says.

Lady Morgan...

Now the time for polite words has passed...
I'm tired of hearing you throw my lowering of the Ward in my face.
Again and again you accuse me of doing things on a whim, yet I have never made a decision regarding an individual dueler without discussing the situation with that dueler.
I have -always- submitted to the scrutiny of my superiors on the staff and -never- made an official ruling that is not -clearly- covered by the rules without consulting those self-same superiors.
Now tell me Morgan... how would you even know that I needed to make any of these decisions if I did not post them upon the boards?
If I feel I need a clarification of the rules, I will go to my superiors on the staff... as I should. I will -not- ask the advice of a random passer-by, nor will I poll the entirety of the Duel of Swords... which you -appear- to be insisting I do.
Once the decision is made, -then- is the time the community as a whole should comment one way or the other... as they have in the past.
If I feel the need to get advice on how to do my job, I will ask those people who have done the job before. Who is better qualified, after all?
-These- are the assertations I am making... -not- that the decisions, once I have made them, are above any questioning.
If I have not made myself clear, let me know.
