Challenge to the First
From: silentcris@aol.com (SilentCris)
Date: 15 Jan 1999 17:55:04 EST
From the desk of Cristian de Oro
Director of Archaeology; Black Friday, Inc.
To the patrons of the Arena,
This post is to inform those outside of the traditional notification circle of my challenge to Baron of the First, Seamus MacDonnaugh. I have challenged this man because, in my two years of dueling here, he has been shown himself to be a game and canny duelist. While I have never been one to turn away from a good debate or stand idly by as some form of perceived injustice occured, neither of these were ever my reasons for dueling within these
halls. To put it simply, I enjoy the duel itself the most. My first priority within the Arena has always been to duel as a form of recreation and sport.
I entered the past Warlord Tourney and I was both impressed with my own performance as well as alarmed by it. I have found myself far from as young as I use to be and with this age has come a small measure of improvement. At this time, I feel I am ready to try my hand at the next level of this sport, a true challenge of the blade. I challenge Seamus MacDonnaugh not out of some form of politics or a want to remove him from his seat, but because I
feel that I would enjoy a challenge, one with someone who is intelligent and personable, and perhaps loves the sport of the Arena as much as I. While other sitting Barons may have the same qualities I seek, I do not know them as even a passing acquaintance.
Simply, I challenge Seamus MacDonnaugh because I feel he is the man that will present me both with a challenge and a feeling of excellence within this sport. No matter, win or lose, I believe we will both fight in the name of sport and this is what is most important to me. It is what I sought from a challenge match... perhaps others seek something else, but this is my vision of a challenge and it one I am truly glad the Baron accepted when I spoke
to him of the challenge.
Duel well, my friend. And no matter who wins, the ring will be in reverent hands.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Cristian de Oro

No to mention there's no chance of the overlord stepping in. Not taking away from seamus, but if your after a challenge, why not chase down the overlord, or perhaps the baron with the highest WoL ever in DoS history? Jeff is a tough dueler, a true challenge indeed, but there again, renegades can't hide under the overlord, so....kick him in the posterior Seamus.

Seamus,
Good luck, friend.
Cristian,
Duel well, and please understand that I am rooting for my good friend Seamus.
By the way, is Seamus going to try to make you wear a kilt?

Lairds and Ladies of the duels.
I have spoken to the honorable and wellspoken warlord, Cristian de Oro, in regards to the announced challenge. I find his reasoning admirable and I find his manners exemplary. Were all I have seen issue challenge to use the clarity and discipline exhibited by this warlord, there would no doubt be a greater respect for themselves upon these boards.
I care not whether or noe the Overlord is available, I care not that there is no intercession available. If I were still a loyal follower of the Overlord, I would ask that he stay out of the matter entirely. Wish well to the man you choose to support, but I ask that you take the time to think about your words as carefully as Lord de Oro most certainly must have. He is correct in his assumption that I will duel him for the love of the sport and as
well for the love of the ring I do possess. Enjoy the challenge for what it is, a test of two men's mettle. Upon verification of the walrords peerwins a date and time shall be announced.

Cristian and Seamus,
Well written, both of you!! Both the declaration of the challenge and Seamus's statements were superb examples of sportsmanship in its best sense! It does my heart right glad to see such an honourable, courteous, and above all, sportsmanlike challenge pressed. I shall do my best to attend this one, as it would seem to represent all that is best about our beloved sport. May fortune be with both of you, and may you both cross blades with all the skill
you may each muster. Whatever the results of the clash, I am sure it shall be a superb event.

I am certain this will be a good match, but I stand behind my friend, Seamus. I wish you well, Hamish, may the ring remain on your finger.

Wow...Two people who are quite admirable, and an honorable challenge and acceptance..should be quite interesting..plus it's for a ring I myself had the pleasure of getting whomped from by the Scottish Blade.
Cristian-Luck to you, may ye fare better than I did.
Seamus-Luck to you as well, now do I get extra publicity for my columns in the DN?
Yes, I am Neutral in this match, a state I disagree with entirely, but hey, You only live once.
