I was going to post a long note for everyone to see. It contained a lot of finger pointing and insults. I changed my mind on posting it though. Why? Because that's what is wrong with the arena anymore. All we do is complain, point fingers at each other and try to assert blame upon one another.
In a nutshell, the problem with the arena is it's people. Older patrons don't like newer patrons, some say due to lack of respect and tradition. Know what I think? I think.."why the hell should they be respectful when we treat them so poorly?"
I remember a day when myself, Adonai, G'nort, and a select few others would take time enough to show new patrons the arena's traditions. We'd show them how to fit in with the older patrons who were set in their ways. Hell, if it wasn't for people like G'nort, I wouldn't have stayed here as long as I have. The arena needs more G'norties. People like G make being in the arena fun. I cannot remember the last time I actually enjoyed dueling, or just
being in the arena. I still go, more from habit than anything.
The "good old days" are gone. Things will never be the same as they were two years ago. We all have to realize this. We also have to realize that if we want this arena to be fun, we need to get along better. Newer people...some are disrespectful, yes. But are they that way to spite us because we don't give them half a chance?
Lets look at one example. Methous or whatever his name is. He challenged somebody, I haven't even paid attention as to who. What happened? The older duelers jumped all over him because his reason was he just wants to advance. Personally, I don't agree. To me that is not a good reason to challenge. I feel just because you have a pocket full of peer wins, doesn't mean you should challenge. But, it is his right. Instead of bashing him, we *could*
show him some respect. But since most of you haven't, I say don't complain about him being disrespectful back to you, and if he doesn't honor any tradition, I blame you all for it. Instead of yelling and screaming cause you don't like why he does things, why not SHOW HIM some traditions? Educate. Be role models. G'nort spoke of Bishop. How many older duelists respect the Bishop? Many I would presume. Would you like to see newer people act similar to
Bishop? well, that's a dream that is easily attainable.
*Newbies* are similar to children. They learn how to interact by watching *us*. If we show them bad examples...which all you have to do is look these boards over, the examples we are showing them....well, it's so bad I have been considering leaving permanently from the realm. Now before anyone goes and starts to try and bash me, I do in fact accept responsibility for my recent actions. I have been a jerk. I have a big ego. I am just as much to
blame as the rest of you.
I do honor traditions of the rings. There is a rich history here, if anyone looks anymore. It's just being buried under an ugliness of prejudice against newer people. That's not the only problem though. Another problem is on these boards. People cannot take criticism. People do not like being told their wrong, etc. The domino effect is in full swing here. This is what happens. Person "A" says something, an opinion on things for example. person "B"
reads said post and gets offended. The person B responds by insulting or criticizing person A. Person "C" reads over this and even if it's none of their business, insults both persons A and B for offending person C. And so forth, more and more people get offended. Need proof? Look at how long some of the stupid arguments have been drawn out, and look at why.
As individuals, I say we need to learn to shut the hell up and mind our own business. Just because we have an opinion does NOT mean we *have* to voice it. If person A has a problem with person B, persons C,F,and T need not get involved. Even if what somebody says upsets or offends us....do we really need to say "Hey, I am offended?" Does anybody care if your offended? We do have the right to free speech. But has anyone seen what that causes? Look
at the arena and it's people lately. That is what free speech gets you. Just like chocolate. It's a good things, but if you abuse it...you'll get too big for your britches.

For anyone who read this far, I'm not looking to start any arguments. I am trying to open eyes up here. This place used to be fun, I haven't laughed in the arena in months. For this place to be great again, it's going to take all of us to make it that way, both old and new people. I ask that we try and bite our tongues...think about if what we have to say really needs be said, and towards newer people who are less than respectful, treat them the
way we want to be treated, it'll pay off sometime.

I feel just because you have billions of dollars and possess acute business acumen doesn't mean you should viciously run your competitors out of business. But, it is a person's right. Instead of bashing them, we could show them some respect....

You get the idea, I expect. Anyone who acts like an infant simply because people object to their ill-considered actions, claiming offense that they are not being treated with respect, isn't worth scraping off my boots. And that is what this is about - not only with Methous, but quite often with yourself. Just because it is your "right" to do something does NOT mean you are free from criticism for doing it, and the constant explosions of infantine
temper you engage in when criticized for behaving poorly rest on your shoulders, not on anyone else's. Blaming "you all" for an idiot's refusal to even attempt to adhere to tradition is right up there with "But, Mama, she stuck her tongue out at me, I had to hit her."

I think he is right, Huma. We give the lower ranks the example of.. Arrogance and egotistic thoughts. We look down on them, when they very hard to look down on us. Yes, I am really bad with interacting with newbies. But, when they show some kind of honor in their words, or even the slightest thought of it. I will try my best to show them the way to go. Also,
I am not always honorable, well, i'm not honorable at all really. There are some newbies though that just have no clue, that's where go the opposite direction of Huma. Some of them are just too much. Too much of an idiot. Too blind from arrogance to see honor. Too blind to see the light, the light of the fun of the game. They are their to win and win only for themselves and no one else. One more thing, the reason we don't interact well with them is
because of their ego's. They challenge our ego's which leads to disrespect. It's all a domino effect. My opinions,

All right, you want to know what the problem is with the new little suckers today? It's very simple: Idiocy is contagious. If people like Huma or Tim (god forbid any people even newer than that jerk ever come and actually look up to him) would just shut the heck up, then we wouldn't have these problems with newcomers. In my opinion, we should install an IQ test in the Duel of Swords, and if you don't get above a certain number (which fools like the
aforementioned would clearly fall short of) then you just aren't allowed to speak in the arena or annex or write on the boards. There, problem solved. Remember, if you're stupid.. keep it to yourself. This has been a public service announcement from somebody who is smarter than you are. Have a nice day.

Surprise, surprise... the "older" patrons (save Jake) of the DoS are arguing once again. Huma, its posts like yours that start these things. Its starts off as a simple note, which gets a few replies by some levelheaded people. Then a newbie, or just a troublemaker, catches a glimps of these posts and feels he should say something to defend newbies. And before you know it, an older dueler feels insulted and retaliates with his own insults,
disguised by words of wisdom. Just wait and see how many people are going to keep this going....

The problem lies in people like Jesse. If the community would discourage people such as him to even breathe, we would all fair better. It's that simple. I'd rather surround myself with people like Methous and a billion of the newest commoners than consort with Jesse's filth.

He is totally right. I agree totally with this opinion. Domino's are fun at times too. :)
