Some Thoughts

Post by DoS Archive » Sat Sep 25, 2004 7:31 pm

I have a few thoughts about current mindsets that I want to share.
On the continued use of Oathbreaker and the general scorn that Huma seems to meet from most of the clique of older duelers. One of course if forced to wonder if perchance the duelers of antiquity that met this clique in their infancy to the realm met them with the same scorn....as then it would be highly understandable.
Would that it were that Lord Dalamar still did reign with a well nigh full set of Loyal Barons...this would be not as inaccurate and as forced as it seems. But over time, after my own move to Renegade status....many other Barons went the same way for reasons of their own. But they all stay within the good graces of the community. None of them are seen as OathBreakers nor hounded by the mindless extremists of a bygone age. But still the
mindset persists with Huma, and I find this to be something of mention. Does Lord Dalamars deposal and death in someway make Lord Eros an OathBreaker as well? I think not. Mayhaps had Dalamar died and left the crown without passing it the very sky would be railed at and called OathBreaker as well? Highly unlikely as well. Is it truely a problem with Huma DragonsBane? Or a need of someone to blame?
While all in the Duel of Swords have someone they care not for or someone that they have reason to revile, I see little reason or need for the constant degrading of a man because of a past action that wasn't solely his alone. In fact the consistent degradement of duelers on a whole by this slowly dying clique of ancients disturbs me highly. In fact to be candid tis not even all the older duelers, but merely a small and highly vocal part of
them. In fact it would outrightly seem to me that the entire intent of it is to turn those that this group would like, away from this realm in pure disgust. Which in itself is a higher crime than any I can possibly think of.
So let us review this in depth. Dalamar reigned as one of the greatest Overlords of all times. One of course would understand some high feelings from different areas on his reign, and of course would understand an extremists reaction to someones challenging him or undermining his power in any way. But then, one must take into account that the Overlord is not a King, but a title which has been passed many times in the name of the sport,
from one to another. Many who have held it were great men and women, well respected of the community and well loved. But not all. So thusly it calls into question the veracity of this *OathBreaker* designation that I and so many others seem to wear.
One would go as far as to point back to the reign of Sierra, when Feadur challenged for the crown. This of course was a fine example of a friend challenging for the crown of a friend. As I was not here nor participant in that time....I cannot expound upon whether the reactions of that time were as extreme as the reactions of this time. But I am wont to say that they were not. And they surely do not sit in the memory of those that do
remember it as sorely as the more recent times seem to.
So that leaves me to ask. What is different? What is different in Huma that is say...not as different in me? Or in Ajay? Or Seamus? What is different in me that is not so different as Feadur Feamgil? How is today and the times we live in now any more different than the times of the past that some here lived through and saw?
I have not the answers, maybe some do. But as with my first day upon these fields so long ago I still find, and rankle highly over, the feeling of unwantedness. A feeling that some in this realm are highly sore of the passing of the old days and the dawning of the new. And find reasons many....to scorn and belittle those they see as responsible.
Huma has been here and participant in these duels for many a moon now. He has held himself with honor to all at times. But has never betrayed himself. He has held title within the sport, sometimes to the very amazement of his peers even, when it seemed that all was hopeless and he could do nothing but lose. He stays participant and involved in the duels and makes new friendships with those that have walked just in the door all the
time. He is a rare fellow...of twisted humor and open heart, that respects all that he believes deserve his respect. He stays true to himself, not letting the words and thoughts of others dissuade him from what he believes is the truth. So in this....how is he any different from you, dear reader?
This I have pondered...since my attack of the challenger Tim, and while I still hold a love for these rings that they should be respected. And their histories honored. I ask these questions. Because the sickness of this place is not wholly from without, and those that bring it with them. But also within....in those that refuse to let something pass and let the new day dawn. And truely...it has caused enough grief.
These are my thoughts, no matter how highly unordered or ill needed. If any have answers....or thoughts to share with me, please do. If you have little but a sharp tongue and comments....then hold them to yourselves please. As I am sure we have all heard them before and it is not the purpose of this missive to wrangle incessantly between each other...but to address questions and mayhaps find a few answers...or even better,
understanding.

Interesting thoughts Uzi, to clarify, I changed my mind on something, and thus was labeled oathbreaker. A breach of morals to some, to myself, it was mearly a bad call due to a heated temper. Of course some of those here just can't understand that they *can* in fact change their minds. I do appreciate your words on my behalf, good friends are indeed difficult to come by around here.

<< good friends are indeed difficult to come by around here. >>

Sorry, chump, but that has nothing to do with this place. You should replace the word "here" with the phrase "when you spend all your time acting like a common criminal or a baby who needs to be changed." If you make that change, maybe then you'll actually realize why people hate you and always berate you. Of course, somebody as thick-headed as you will probably require plenty of time to process the truth of the situation. So, just a remember, in
the meantime don't speak or have offspring, you're just contributing to a lower average IQ in RhyDin by bringing people down to your level. Have a nice day, sucker.

Uzie Poo,

Indeed, tis well the community ist spared "History According to Adonai."

The Swordbrother of Siera of Redwin, Feadur Feamegil, ne'er challenged her for the crown. T'was the Overlord, Percival what didst receive challenge from the Renegade Baron. Feadur hae pledged his blade unto Siera throughout her reign and didst further honor that pledge by placing challenge unto Percival soon after he didst gain the title. T'was Feadur didst succeed in his challenge unto Percival, becoming the seventeenth to hold the crown and
mantle ast nineteenth Overlord of Swords. And aye, I wast present that eve.

The difference between thee and the dark elf, Feadur Feamegil, ist so vast ast to be nigh indefineable. The differences between thee and the Oathbreaker, Huma Dragonbane aire more easily likened to distances measured in quintillionths of a nanosecond, that ist in plainer terms, nigh onto nonexistent.

The "fine example of friendship" thee didst display wast thine declared "boredom" being thine excuse in bringing challenge unto Lord ArD'aumon. The "fine example" displayed by Huma Dragonbane wast twice giving pledge and twice breaking his pledge. Tis vastly amusing that the Oathbreaker now whines he merely "changed his mind."

The former Baron, Laird Seamus MacDonnaugh stands head and shoulders above thee two in honesty, integrity and honor, ast dost the Baron Ajay, e'en though both chose to stand Renegade unto Lord ArD'aumon. Though I canna say I agree with either of the gentleman ast to their reasons, both didst ast their hearts and honor didst guide them. I have yet to peruse a missive nor heard either of these gentleman whine nor make excuses for their words or for
their actions.

Think thee that, in past, those new come to the basement were welcomed with open arms, thee aire mistaken. Yet think thee that, in past, those new come to the basement were castigated, vilified and reviled, thee aire also mistaken. Yet those who didst grace these ancient caverns in past didst show the wherewithal to learn the history and to nae sully the grandeur that ist these ancient halls by showing an utter and blithe disregard for all that hae
gone afore. Think thee that Percival wasna questioned ast to his reasons for issuing challenge unto Siera, thee aire mistaken. Think thee that anna Overlord, or Baron, or challenging warlord wast nae scrutinzed and queried, thee aire mistaken. Think thee that anna what didst cast insult upon the traditions, the community or the personages who hae made their mark upon these rings, wast nae commented upon and missives placed upon this cork calling
said personage to task, thee aire mistaken. Tis thee seem to hae a penchant for error, Uzie Poo, odd would thee nae think in a "godling"?

Perhaps thee shouldst listen to thine "feelings of unwantedness", they may be telling thee something profound, and thee shouldst heed them.

Adonai:

Again with the "clique of older duelers."

Huma is called oath-breaker because he made a deal in front of witnesses, then when he lost the match, reneged.

Changing one's alignment to the throne is NOT oath-breaking, unless you have, indeed, sworn an oath.

Please, old friend, try and stay relevant.

Refrain from your usual rantings here Jesse.

I asked nicely that those with sharp tongues and negative comments stay off this debate. There is more than ample space to do your usual insulting and dragging people through the mud elsewhere.

I will appreciate it if you respect the non combative nature of this post and attempt to keep your additions to it civil and in good taste.

Thank you,

Madame Starfare,

I asked that those with something positive to add should add it.

What you have said is not positive and out of context with the entire debate. I will ask you now, in writing to cease and desist your negative attacks upon me and upon others within this debate.

As far as my understanding is concered from stories and from a time perusing the histories back awhile ago, Sierra was challenged by Feadur Feamgil. It is entirely possible that I could be in error on that fact since its been a time since I was in the Hall of Histories and read things over once again.

And the consistent ribs of godling only show that you know little...if anything of me. I was not formed from the stars as a god woman. I slew the creator of my race eons ago and the power was transferred in that slaying. I have not the powers of omniescience...nor have I ever claimed to be omnipotent. I have a limited grasp...even after this many eons have passed of what I can truely do. And truely it has never been my concern to exercise
its envelope, as I prefer to live as I am.

You consistently attack me for nothing but your own black hearted enjoyment. When truly woman...you are the one that seems to be a sad, twisted little person to be pitied, that revels in trying to hurt or destroy others. Aye you have your friends...as I have mine. And neither will ever be convinced of our wrongness or uselessness. But still you yammer and attack and attempt to destroy that which is beyond your capability to do so.

I have...over diverse times, offered an olive branch. Attempted...as it were to respect you as a person and someone who is be worthy of respect, for knowledge if anything. And everytime you have thrown it back in my face and consistently been the same woman you've been for nearly two years now. So who, Madame Starfare, is the sad little person here?

I grow tired of you attacking me and those you find unworthy to share in the banquet which is this realm. We are here...and we've been here a good long time. Many of the ones you would have gone have been here even longer than myself. You consistently misconstrue *I don't like them* with *Their not worthy to hold a blade in these rings.* Instead of reviling us...you should embrace us. As we hold this place in more honor and respect than most that
come to it. And it will be those of us that you so revile that will hold title here and live the daily story that is the lives of the duelers of this realm. And without us...where would you sit and enjoy the duels and the wonderful history that we everyday create?

So once again, I offer the olive branch. Cease your attacks and attempts to malign those that did nothing to you but happen exist and decide to take up residence within the same realm you did so many ages ago. And I will attempt to revise my ingrained opinions of you also. And from there...we can all attempt to live in some form of harmony. Because truely....you and a select few are the only aggressors left. The rest of us are happy to like each
other, and respect each other...at least nominally. I mean truely, I have even found respect for that old rapscallion Lupton....and if I can like him, whos to say I cannot like you as well? So join with us. Respect the people around you....they might, no matter how new or ill hewn...have something to share with you.

Thoughtfully,
~Adonai Uziel

Ian,

I did in fact mention that it wasn't an overly large group of older duelers.

But it is definately in my eyes, and in others eyes. A clique nonetheless. But I only made mention of the small group once and refrained from naming names, since as evidenced, the more vocal members of it quickly stepped out and identified themselves as I thought they would. And its entirely possible that you missed the mentioning of them in what was, to be sure, a verbose missive.

Many of the Age of Heroes have no real
issue with me and hold me in some respect, grudging or otherwise. So...thusly, I am not making a general accusation here and I am sorry that you took it as such.

One would whoever like to thank you for keeping your thoughts constructive and in the spirit of the missive...as others have not.

Adonai:

Your understanding is flawed. Siera Redwin was never challenged by Feadur Feamegil. As Jonalyn correctly states, Feadur's sole challenge for the Overlordship was when he defeated Percival of the Table Round, once my second, in redress for Percival's defeat of Siera herself. Prior to that occasion, in all instances save one, the Baron did stand in intercession against
Siera's challengers, as was his duty - in his eyes - as her Swordbrother.

Having served as a loyal baron to Siera, and before that, having spent her entire tenure being daily encouraged by her to seek title, rest assured that my memory of these things is accurate.

These are two messages left by Adonai, in different posts, one to Jesse and one to Jona:

"I asked nicely that those with sharp tongues and negative comments stay off this debate"

"When truly woman...you are the one that seems to be a sad, twisted little person"

While I'm not quite certain, I would assume that calling someone a "sad, twisted little person" would be considered a negative comment by many. By that reasoning, I ask that you request others to refrain from such comments only after you do the same, Adonai. It'll set a better example.

Let me add a third voice that Feadur never challenged Siera. He was her strongest supporter and always acted as her champion.

She drew a lot of criticism for this. Yes, even back then, people complained about the Test of Worthiness.

Percival was also criticized for challenging someone everyone thought he was in love with. An odd way for a man to show his love, but Adeena did the same to him. I, myself, do not understand why friends challenge friends, for I would very much enjoy serving alongside my friends.

Percival held the title for 14 days. Feadur wrested it from him and declared all of the barons renegade and encouraged their challenge. 12 days later, Gnimish was the new overlord. He retired the title after holding it for a little over three months. He was not the first nor the last to hold the title to claim it was one of the worst experiences of his life due to the complaining and criticizing he was forced to endure.

Why will you not admit you had your facts wrong? I do not know where you got your information, but your source is incorrect.

I would like to know who "many" (what a vague term) of these so-called "Age of Heros" are.

Considering the vast majority of these "heros" are gone and never met you, I wonder how they can hold anything for you.
